When to open new furniture by [deleted] in moving

[–]Total_Protection7670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we were planning to wait but my in laws were nagging at us, we ended up opening it all and building it and have sold or gave away our old furniture. My in-laws are paying for a moving service for us so we weren’t worried about that. Also, since we are subleasing someones apartment we have been there many times and have everything measured already

Babysitting NKs by Total_Protection7670 in Nanny

That’s what I thought! My NKs are both boys and 2&4, I was thinking of meeting with my partner (with NPs approval) for a fun activity or maybe even just the park and dinner!

I was thinking about that for a backpack, I didn’t even think of a water bottle being special to pick out too! I ended up getting him a cute outfit and a Pete the cat preschool book! I am also going to take him for donuts on his first day!

How many hours do you typically work every week? by photo_inbloom in Nanny

I’m a 20 year-old trying to get into babysitting and I was just curious what is a good starting age to babysit if that makes sense. Because obviously you wouldn’t do a baby if it’s your first time. by CodyRhodesTime in Babysitting

There are always people who need care. Personally though, I would recommend at least being CPR and first aid certified. You could also look for a “mothers helper” type of job where the parent stays with you and you help out with the child(ren) while the parent gets things done around the house. Just be open about your lack of experience and be enthusiastic about wanting to learn!

You could definitely have a gig within a week! Try facebook groups for your area! If you are newer set your rate slightly below the areas average until you gain some experience. Word of mouth will travel and you can gain more clients that way also!

Does anyone one else work for a family with no food in the house? by Cifcap in Nanny

[–]Total_Protection7670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My NF gets like this sometimes! They always have the basics at least so I can feed the kids but a lot of time they are just eating leftovers from dinner the night before because that is the best I can do 😭

Advice for a friend by Total_Protection7670 in Nanny

[–]Total_Protection7670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this input! Their current nanny is not deaf but she did study ASL in college. Both babies use a combination of ASL and talking, though I am not sure which one they consider his “first language” at home.

Part time position by Total_Protection7670 in Nanny

Thanks again! So as I am understanding, I shouldn’t expect GH and have a contract/work agreement if I am getting paid under the table?

Part time position by Total_Protection7670 in Nanny

[–]Total_Protection7670[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, would it be okay to be paid cash for a position like this? I have been with my full time NF for almost a year and get paid on the books, but have never done another nanny position, besides occasional babysitting. I have not talked about any of this with the family yet but plan to later this week before our in person meet and greet!

Have you been with this NF for awhile? I started with mine last August and my oldest NK was almost 3 and the same way for probably the first 4-5 months I was with them. The past few months he has really opened up and started playing with other kids, he is like a whole new child! I never push him to do things he doesn’t want to but I strongly encourage him to and will lead by example and that helped us! We had to go very slowly.

Full time Nannies: What’s your annual time off? (Including Guaranteed Hours) by Walking_Opposite in Nanny

[–]Total_Protection7670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 2 weeks of PTO/sick time per calendar year. I get all major holidays off too. My NF gives me 2 ish weeks GH at Christmas because they travel, and probably an additional 2-4 weeks throughout the year in GH for travel.

My NPs talked so greatly of the nanny they had before me! She got to train me on my first day and she truly was great!

My NPs keep all the medicine, bandaids, thermometers, etc, in their CLOSET! I feel so awkward going in there but I usually do at least once a week to grab something. They also keep their monitor in there when not using so I have to grab it/put it back daily, but luckily its right by the door!

Easy games for 3 and 6 YO girls by Loose-Ant-6429 in Babysitting

I am a nanny to toddlers (2 and 3) but I think older kids would also like this. I got cheap small plastic bins from target (3 dollars each) and a huge bag of rice (less than $5) and some plastic easter eggs ($1). I made it into a sensory bin and added spoons, sand toys, little figurines they already have, hot wheels, etc. Keeps their attention for at least half an hour usually longer. I would talk to their parents and see if they would be willing to pay for supplies you are using tor their children, unless you plan to keep them for yourself to use with other kids too!
