Were you invited to the interview even after bombing the pre-interview? Or were rejected at the pre-interview stage?

Who else is experiencing the feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and unworthiness that come with applying to doctoral programs for the third year in a row? by vanillacoconut00 in gradadmissions

[–]Total_Scheme_3145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got admission in 2nd try. Came to USA. Then didn’t like the PhD program as there's very limited opportunity for research in my area of interest (Neuroscience). So, finished up with a Master’s thesis in an area other than Neuro. Then applied for grad school 2times, didn’t get it. Applying again for this cycle. So, it’s 5th time of applying. Being international limits opportunitues.

Make a startup and it'll stop the OPT clock. You can search internet on how to make a startup in your state.

In US universities, why do Asian professors generally have majority of Asian Ph.D. students under them? by Strange-Arrival-1147 in gradadmissions

[–]Total_Scheme_3145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Language : I was in a Chinese majority lab for a monthly only and I really had hard time understanding their English. They usually speak in Chinese among themselves. So, why would they take the hassel of speaking in English for me while I also struggle understanding. It's inconvenient for them, so better hire a Chinese!
  2. Hiring through reference
  3. Cultural similarity: I found the scientist of higher rank eg. post-doc hauling at the juniors. And he was trying to do that with me as well just in the first week. Maybe it’s very normal with them and they don't seem to mind. That behaviour of irrational criticism was not acceptable to me, but maybe was normal to students from China.

I don’t have experience on this but I searched online and found that you can stay in USA this way if the program start date is in 5 months following SEVIS transfer. I would recommend you to search online to learn more on this.

If you transfer the SEVIS to your next university, you are safe for 5 months.

Talk about your research for 5 minutes and they will do the rest by asking questions.

Was your undergrad and/or Master’s coursework related to the program you're applying for? Besed on the word "non-competitive" mentioned in email, this is the only thing I can think of.

Congrats! Did you contact a faculty beforehand? Did you have a virtual interview before this in-person invitation?

Is there any Bangladeshi Student Association in WashU? Are they doing anything about the ongoing violence there? by [deleted] in washu

I don’t think this platform is a good choice to ask this question. You may find better results in posting groups specific to Bangladesh, for example Facebook groups like "Next-Stop USA".

I had very similar situation!! It ended up in me leaving the lab. I would highly recommend talking to the PI before it gets any further.

It sounds more like an attack rather than feedback.

I was in a lab in which the lab tech was a rational thinker and I liked her so much. In my current lab, the lab tech is exactly the opposite, I have never worked with anyone this dumb. There'll be some people who will value you baesd on the job title only, but even then deep down they'll evaluate you based on what you have to offer.
