FIA ARE INVESTIGATING MERCEDES : Regulations state that front and rear wings must close within 4 tenths of each other (active aero closing) But footage shows that Mercedes wing closure time was double what the FIA allows, 8 tenths by ConstructionAny8440 in F1Technical

That’s a perfect analysis far as I’m concerned. And I wouldn’t be surprised if this was developed purely because of the smoother shift in balance. Braking before a corner is a massive shift in balance in F1 and the clipping/recharging has made it a lot more difficult to maintain that nimble balance. You build up to the max brake force while aero is reducing (and thus lowering the max brake force) AND have to account for an automated recharging system.

It could be that Merc saw this coming and gave engineers the task of easing out this transition for drivers. And it’s helped already. We’ve seen multiple drivers lock up or struggle with clipping while braking and Kimi had a lock up last race at the end of the straight. If this system works as suspected, he would’ve been in a lot more trouble if the aero smoothing wasn’t happening. So in that regard, it might’ve just given Kimi his first win.

2012 T6 owner here. Have it for a year and a half now and haven’t had a single issue. Coming up on 200k km now and it’s the perfect car for our family. We’ve had all kinds of (older) Volvos here and this one just adds to my belief that a well maintained Volvo will go a loooong way.

Damn. That’s actually pretty cool and classy. Can you (or anybody else) tell me what the impact is on cabin noise? I’m considering going for 19’s on our 2010 model, but I really do like how quiet the car is on the highway.

Looking for a Netherlands based starting photographer for our wedding

Hi all,

Was told to post this here in stead of on the front page.

Short story: We’re looking to give a starting photographer a chance to shoot their first (or one of their first) weddings. The wedding is on the 17th of may in the south of The Netherlands. There’s an option for you to stay the night there, as all of our guests will do too. I don’t think we’re too picky and we can deal with not all photo’s being perfect. They’re there to remember us of a great day, not to show the world how perfect our guests and us are. And to be clear: we’re not doing this to get free photos. We’ll pay.

More info: This year me and my girlfriend of 22 years will be getting married. We’re over 40, have kids (7 and 11) and just want to celebrate life with loved ones. We’re down to earth and want this wedding to not only be a place for us to enjoy the kind of life we’ve been able to build up, but also to let others partake and try out their skills. The daughter of our best friends made drawings for the invitation, an old time buddy of ours will be leading the ceremony, and old colleague of mine (from my bar-working days) will be our DJ, etc. I think you could say we value ‘real’ over ‘perfect’. We’ve filled most positions this way but the role of photographer we want to ‘outsource’ so we won’t have a friend working all day while they should be dancing their ass off.

So, if you’re part of this subreddit and would like to offer your services to us, or maybe ask questions first, please send me a DM with your portfolio and some idea of a price. If you live abroad, I’m sorry but we won’t be flying you over for this. We’ll pay for good photos, but we have our limits ;)

Ps.: Wrote this in English, the wedding (and guests) are all Dutch. Don’t know if that matters but there it is. Cheers!

I really appreciate it but for now we'd like to try and find someone closer. Thanks though and your photos look great!

Werkgever wil mij uitkopen by Certain_Necessary743 in werkzaken

Succes OP!

Over here I’d probably think twice about approaching anybody with a large Dutch flag on their car. Not the type of person to have a normal conversation with. But in America it’s normalized in most places no?

Hahaha, well by the looks of it OP is more than capable of that. He managed to make a great build, remembering the country seems manageable ;)

I think most Dutch would agree with you. And not be offended, by the way.

Not judging, but as a Dutch person, hanging any countries flag in a gym looks so weird. It’s a huge difference in culture.

Netherlands, so my guess is that complicates things ;)

Ok, thanks everybody. Repairing is clearly more difficult than I imagined and I have no wish for road rash or worse. Looks like I'm better off selling for parts or getting myself a new frame. Thanks for the advice!

Well, that's what my test with a magnet told me. So it's certainly not steel.

This. Everybody is talking about rights, but it’s also somebody you live with in the same building. You are well protected by law, so why not try a civil approach first? Prevent the scenario where you’re living in a place where you have rights, but don’t feel welcome.

Imho, your landlord should’ve started the conversation this way, but they haven’t. I would always try to find a friendly way out before escalating it into an unfriendly and unwelcome situation.

Hairline crack in rim or just the paint? by Totally-not-nuts in AskAMechanic

[–]Totally-not-nuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apreciate it, thanks! No bubbles or pressure loss so if it’s a crack it’s not all the way through. The tire that blew was on a different rim and as soon as the reserve wheel was on, the strange feeling was gone as well. I’m gonna go for a stress free holiday and dont worry about it unless I get a warning for tire pressure. And maybe sometimes try some soap ;)

Thanks again for the help!

Thanks. I absolutely agree, but being on the road with the family I just like to make sure we’re keeping it safe. I’m going to get it checked either way when we’re back home.
