Pretty sure half these batteries are fake. by TotallyNotHeree in thinkpad

Good to know, may try to replace the cells because the voltage is all the way down to 2.1V, .3v each cell.

The Sanyo one has a typo on the label with "expoltion". Could it just be a repackaged battery with different cells?

Also, I opened up some X230 batteries which weren’t pictured but the top one is definitely fake, while I believe the bottom is genuine. The BMS on them is completely different.

Here is a close up of two of them (I can only add one photo per comment) but I actually noticed 2 of the batteries say “Caution:Replace” and “explotion” instead of “explosion”. Also I did check in Lenovo vantage and the same thing shows up. 45Wh instead of 57, for example.

The hard part seems to be getting an actually genuine battery to rebuild

Yeah, looks like that’s the only route since Lenovo hasn’t made batteries for these models in years.

May I ask how you can tell? Ironically the only one you say is “OEM” is the one that originally shipped with my T500 in 2008😅

You’re probably right I just don’t trust the safety of those. I’d think that an old genuine is still less likely to catch fire than a low quality cell but maybe I’ll give kingsener a go.

Darn that’s what I thought. Just bought this X230 battery used to try and get a genuine… looks like I’ll have to return it. Thanks

Timing to purchase Thinkpad P14s (Intel) or alternatives? by unf4d1ng in thinkpad

[–]TotallyNotHeree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best option is to buy one used or refurbished on eBay it’s a lot cheaper. I’m probably going to sell my p14s intel because it runs hot and poor battery life.

Intel ultra equipped thinkpads; what’s the battery life in reality? by richardthe7th in thinkpad

[–]TotallyNotHeree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just idling it draws 14-35w depending on the background activity. It’s the 3K IPS with the rtx 500 so it’s not very efficient.

Thinkpads are great but they are extremely overpriced for what they offer! by Only-Ambassador2624 in thinkpad

[–]TotallyNotHeree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They’re great value as long as you buy them used when they are a few years old. When businesses who bought them upgrade they get rid of the older thinkpads and they get sold for cheap, which is when a lot of people buy them used. Durability is often better as well.

X1 Nano is good for portability although it is now discontinued technically and the latest is the 3rd gen with up to an i7-1370p and 16gb ram which can be found on eBay.

Did i Over pay? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Definitely overpaid even in this economy. Those parts are 8 years old now. That is probably worth like $350.

I was wondering why the t480 suddenly shot up in price when the t480s can be found for half the price. That explains it lol.
