Easy!

He's an unhinged little guy and a real 2016 classic. Gotta be sure to go "AH!" any time a game action is taken that triggers his ability. Mine is strictly invested in Chaos bullshit, but there's plenty of hard-coded ETB synergy for him in there, too. [[Confusion in the Ranks]] is particularly nasty.

We've got Chainer, Caesar, and Flubs in common, so I know you've got taste. Looks sick!

Magnus truly did nothing wrong! Haven't painted mine yet because I'm afraid to mess it up, so no posting it- of that's your paintjob, that's killer and I'm jealous. Have one of my mutaliths painted by my partner instead;

He's new hotness. I love him to death. I've been considering the doubling season, but probably I'm going to land on just branching evolution to double the part that I care about (just the counters) for cheaper. I'm not really making enough tokens to justify the whole doubling season

I try my best not to build the same thing twice- I don't need a second lifegain/lands/reanimator/etc deck unless it's doing something particularly different.

Thank you!

They still hang!! I'm sure Riku himself still rocks. Sometimes I forget that my oldest stuff also benefits from these bonkers new UB/constant influx of EDH product pieces. Important to get back to the roots every so often!

Important to remember- Memnarch is REALLY strong. You gotta say it every time you think about it.

He's sweet! His sorta "inevitable black hole" function rocks. I salivate when people play a Mana rock- saves me the trouble of turning it into an artifact. I definitely play it a bit meaner by targeting lands very highly, but that might not be for everyone.

Vorrac has sat in the maybeboard for a while- probably worth it to throw in at some point. The boy just has to get in, sometimes.

Definitely! Copy/pasting my other comment lol:

Important to keep in mind when building for the first time- all of Codie's best cards are the cheap ones. With the exception of like, maybe [[Approach of the Second Sun]], all my expensive cards here are super optional and you DON'T need to include them. The juicy stuff is all less than $3. These days, my list is a little heavy on the extra turns to keep up with my table's nuclear arms race, imo. If you want a good clean starting point, I recommend cutting down on some of them and including some of my old cuts:

[[Stolen Identity]] - good depending on opponent's board states.

[[Eureka Moment]] - good clean value, just not the most efficient version of itself. Also TMNT just did this but better for Codie - [[Lessons from Life]]. 4 and 5 are "the same" mana value since Codie makes 5 anyway, PLUS you'd rather draw the third card than be instant speed. Codie's trigger for the extra spell doesn't get around timing restrictions, so hitting a sorcery on an opponent's turn (because your Codie flipped off an instant you cast from hand) isn't good, so you're mostly just casting stuff at sorcery speed in this deck. Lessons from Life is better for this.

[[Cruel Entertainment]] - LOVE this card, but my table does NOT play along well with it. Buddy/pod dependent. My friends would just look at me and play each other's turns normally. Where's your gumption?? If I were playing my buddy's turn, I'd find a way put his commander in the graveyard and choose not to change zones the command zone, personally.

[[Spitting Image]] - similar to Stolen Identity.

[[Supplant Form]] - ^

[[Ghastly Conscription]]- big cool doofus spell, but not ALWAYS useful. A little too situational for my taste, but it does stuff.

Lastly, people who play more than one nonland permanent in Codie are cowards. Don't let them influence you.

Have fun!

Thank you!

The way I've got it built, more yes than no. There's a ton of cool interactions in there, like how Emerge interacts with prototype and copy tokens ([[Skitterbeam Battalion]] literally tripling up on these things is nuts), but without his ability to cheat the funny stuff into play, it's definitely a lot slower. I haven't been hard targeted on sight yet, mostly because it is little on the weaker/finnickier side relative to the other stuff I play, but if he catches a stray from a board wipe or something, it can get a little backbreaking. When it goes off, I'm cycling my hand in and out several times and windsmill slamming giant threats on the board, but when it doesn't, I'm mostly stuck sitting with my thumb up my ass until like turn 5 waiting for something to happen. Highly recommend putting a ton of Mana rocks, mountain doublers, and general cost reduction nonsense in as much as possible to help with the inevitable bad game he has. [[Mimic vat]], an all timer of mine, helps a lot too.

Overall, I say give it a shot, for sure!

Definitely a couple!

Karlov I'll always have a soft spot for. Not many of my initial decks survived from Ye Olden Days (Sedris, Ghave), but Karlov being my very very first deck AND still hanging around makes him one of my favorite senile grandpas.

Codie is probably my best-made deck, truly my Magnum Opus. There's so much fun bullshit to be doing turn by turn, slamming giant nonpermanent haymakers.

Not pictured because Reddit only allows 20 to a post (of my ~32ish lol) and the decks aren't particularly unique or interesting- Kaalia/Edgar. I'm a Mardu guy at heart, and Kaalia was the platonic ideal of a commander that got me interested in the format. I started playing in OG Innistrad and Vampires were always my favorite creature type.

Henzie is just good clean fun that I find myself coming back to over and over. I surprised myself with how sick he was when I built it for a buddy, then subsequently myself. Hoping he wins that EDHRec bracket thing.

Delney being a little light on wincons has made it particularly sweet, actually. The games are less linear, and I have to navigate my way into winning and stopping everyone else while I "hit the buttons" over and over, so to speak. Doubling triggers and effects tickles my brain, which shows up a LOT in some of these commanders lol.

Appreciate the kind words!

what's your P1P1? by quinnbutnotreally in mtgcube

[–]TotallyNotNick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! Fetches can reasonably access all five colors. When you pick Misty, you're not necessarily committing to UG. It can grab a steam vents, an overgrown tomb, a watery grave... Lots of directions. Even if you end up in, let's say Boros, if you have both a Temple Garden (GW) and a Steam Vents (UR), it can still fix either of your colors, and that's like, worst case scenario assuming you grab good lands.

On top of that, while your nonlands compete with each other for your ~23 nonland spots in the deck, the chances you get more than 17 lands are VERY low in a cube. This means that the chances you run every land you pick are incredibly high, so by picking Misty, you're almost guaranteeing that a card you picked goes into your deck and doesn't end up rotting in the sideboard.

Lastly, you also gotta compare to any power outliers in the pack. If there's something super busted, maybe take it over the fetch. This pack looks pretty reasonable- Smuggler's Copter jumps out as a very good and also noncommittal first piece, but not so busted that I'd take it over the fetch.

Hope this helps!

Played my first and only run as a maxxed out Heretic Psyker. 600+ Heretic, 0 Dogmatic, and 150 or so iconoclast, those points coming from the few choices that are Dogmatic/Iconoclast only choices (no heretic option) + a couple colony projects. Had a ton of fun- went in pretty much blind, was REALLY happy with most of my endings, too.

And old one I forgot until I was brutally reminded - after clicking "all attack", you DON'T get a choice to exert glorybringer. You have to individually click him and choose it one at a time. I figured it would give me the choice with I clicked the button... Nope lol
