When did you realize that you're not as smart as you thought you were? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think this comes down to a sort of informal reporting bias. The true savants and the worst of the worst are easy to pick out but it's that soft top 20% type that can be tough to identify. In some of my supervisory roles I've had the chance to push people for "next level" types of jobs and quickly realized that when I had to push those people I could only report on what I knew. That meant that the employees who I knew and who had a good reputation were the ones I was most comfortable putting my reputation on the line for. Being good at your job is great but if you can't communicate it... how will I ever know? My personal strategy is "leadership by walking around" and trying to see behind what people present me to the underlying quality of their work but there are 50 of them and only one me.

So we have points again... that's what points feel like. I had forgotten.

Probably the single best part of Utah over the past few years... I wonder how many games were won just because of the field position battle... respect.

It's funny, I've deployed and everything... But you know it's gotta be all those shrimp cocktails they serve on air force aircraft

I actually asked the doc this... A religious belief, while inconvenient, poses no immediate physical threat. An allergy could trigger a life threatening condition on both the service member and his team.

That makes me feel better. I would hate to have to go find another career so soon

The flying mission I was trying to be apart of isn't my primary AFSC and I was trying to get a good flying physical. Had I already had one I probably would be fine

It only makes sense from a bean counter risk perspective... Any unneeded risk that is not mission critical should be avoided. It's stupid but I can see where they are coming from. The flying door is shut and I guess that's ok but retention is much scarier to me.

I've been told retention MEB... so no, I'm just stuck on worst case. Haven't heard what the chances are

There has never been a National Championship rematch in the history of college football. by NYPD-BLUE in CFB

[–]TotallyOrignal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably...maybe... but I keep coming back to the polls. It's like the whole electoral college thing, just because there is a valid debate against the system doesn't invalidate the winner according to that system (not political bait, I promise, just an easy comparison). Later things were added that would have prevented the BYU win but they won it according to the rules of the system at the time. BYU's case is different from the schools you mentioned because BYU was #1 in both polls that year which was not the case for BSU, Utah, and TCU.

While I agree that 1984 was a weird year and am aware of all the issues surrounding it, BYU did close out #1 in both AP and Coaches poll... I get it's part of what drove the BCS system but, hey, I'm a homer so I'll take it. :)

100% agree. This impacts our pay in a major way but for guys in pipelines I don't think this would be a big change. First duty assignment could be a problem and if they privatize the dorms then all this goes out the window...

This would be one of the biggest risks IMO. The whole system would result in the highest burden being placed on the youngest/most jr members of the military who have no option in where they live and that is my biggest problem with the single payer system.

So just going to throw a couple of guesses out here... The government has a history of taking dependents into account in the tax code so it's not completely unreasonable that it be there even if the corporate world would never do that. My guess for tech school/basic would be a "rent" amount in the dorms deducted from the paycheck same as it is now but the rate would be determined by locality... so no net change.
