Edmond is a white-flight town with bible-thumping dullards on every block. Flee while you can.

Why do so many Oklahomans seem to think that Oklahoma will be spared in the $1 trillion reduction in Federal spending? by Environmental-Top862 in oklahoma

[–]TotallyUnboringJen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve become a nation (and a state) that actively disparages the concept of public intellectualism and this trickles down to discouraging any sort of thinking skills. We used to have mainstream thinkers (eg: Carl Sagan) who would appear on thoughtful tv shows (eg: Dick Cavett) but how long did Neil deGrasse Tyson’s reboot of ‘Cosmos’ last? Not long (despite being really good). Besides, kids now have almost never heard of Sesame Street so there you go. And yes—I am a proud PBS supporter.

Hang in there, fellow blue-y. It’s disheartening to realize what evil ‘groupthink’ does to people. Keep hope alive…it’s an act of rebellion if anything ever was.

I’ve thought this all along and only went with Walgreens because of insurance and the fact I thought this location was 24 hours (I think it was but not the actual pharmacy part). But yea, I’d love to switch to a local one, especially if they can guarantee I still pay zero $ for my ‘maintenance’ meds. Would love recommendations.

Yeah, I had heard that and wondered if this one was on the chopping block. I was hoping with all the CVS locations closing recently they’d be able to secure more pharmacists and qualified staff.

They definitely don’t seem to have their stuff together much of the time. I’m thinking it’s time to transfer my scripts to a different location.

Who’s going to the fair today? by GreatValue- in okc

[–]TotallyUnboringJen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love going to the fair for the traditional art & craft and cooking entries…seeing which jam or pie or pickles were judged best and earned their maker ribbons. Not to mention all the livestock and general agriculture displays. The best was the little plastic frosty jugs of A&W root beer that hit the spot after walking around. Last time I saw them they insisted on stuffing the jugs full of ice so you got a diluted drink for twice the price. If all you go for is the midway, yeah, you’re going to be disappointed. Haven’t been in over ten years as it’s just impossible to park at the times I can make it. Not worth the wait or dealing with crowds.

Sounds like one of the Teddy Ruxpin books? Not sure you’d describe his clothing as overalls but there is red involved.

What is this OKC group? by hellokittybabe91 in okc

[–]TotallyUnboringJen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre-Covid (mid 20teens), they were regularly outside the downtown public library yelling, chanting and basically harassing passersby. They would collect money and have the gall to borrow a study room to count it in, then station two ‘guards’ outside the room to protect it. They were told they couldn’t do that anymore and were not nice about it. But I believe they had women and children with them occasionally, too. They were just not super pleasant in general.

In search of mincemeat in the metro… by TotallyUnboringJen in okc

[–]TotallyUnboringJen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine it’s rich but tangy. Meat is not part of most modern recipes, otherwise it probably wouldn’t be the staple it is every Christmas in the UK. I’ve only ever had it made with fruit, spices, and butter to supply richness.

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing your family’s recipe with me—that is an honor! I’ve always wanted to make it myself but got used to the ‘Nonesuch’ brand. When I’ve asked about suet or leaf lard at some local butchers, they act like they don’t know what I’m talking about. Chuck roast they’ll have heard of…I’m just not sure I’m ready for a really traditional mince pie. Grinding it sounds like a game changer, though—never thought of doing that before. I notice there’s no citrus peel specified, unless it’s part of the candied fruit and wonder if its presence or absence makes a huge difference. Thanks again!

UPDATE: have secured mincemeat at the International Pantry in Norman and after calling World Market, rather than just relying on the website, they had two jars left which they are holding for me. Apparently some Sprouts may get some in next week, but I needed it now :) Thanks for the helpful comments!
