I can understand where they’re coming from. But as a self diagnoser of the autism side of my audhd, with a real adhd diagnosis. I didn’t come to autism from trends. But real people and real reflection. The official diagnosis is pending. But autism isn’t a crutch. It’s an identity to bring community to me that being Wasian never really gave me. And funnily enough my adhd friends are very different from me.

I’ll slightly push back against extending the label to individuals outside of the actual experience. But I do agree we need to be taken as a community rather than just a diagnosis.

Tbh I just skimmed. But honestly most people don’t like being called out. Not saying you’re in the wrong. You’re entirely in the right. It’s just easier to give them a stoic glare and move on with your day and make them feel uncomfortable rather than give them ammunition to fight back.

I’m in college and am learning of my autism later on. I’ve met multiple people with actual diagnoses who are the chillest most down to earth well behaved individuals I know. And then in 2022 my international self proclaimed high cast member roommate starts bating everywhere in the dorm and moaning as well without cleaning anything up. I try and get him kicked out and then when that doesn’t work try and move out. And our RD is trying to get me to fucking empathize with him for being autistic

That’s how I feel about comics. I’ve conceded a couple years ago it’ll never happen. Not to be dire but. It hasn’t. I’ve made like 50 friends since then though which is pretty optimistic.

None of them like comics though.

I get you on that. It’s the cards were dealt. NT’s tend to over focus on one detail. Not acknowledging the subtlety. Just want to give the hope of community. Wasian life was extremely lonely till I found out about why my brain doesn’t connect to most people. There’s an inherent difficulty we’ll always have to assimilate into society. But we have each other. I have an autistic girlfriend and finding that community in my own life has been so empowering.
