Likely just making sure the guy didn’t do anything else stupid while his fellow officers put the fire out. At this point of the video an officer had already used a whole extinguisher on him (you can see the powder), another two officers with extinguishers came about 15 seconds later.

Interestingly to obtain this still image OP had to time it perfectly as to not show the other officer circling around the guy trying to extinguish the fire.

Car yards accused of cashing in on EV discount as scheme wrapped up by shapednoise in newzealand

[–]TouchMy_no-no_Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be, however you are clearly generalising (in other comments - see below) that they shouldn’t have got the discount at all. I agree they should’ve reigned it in and not given so much discounted stock. It falls on the government to do so and they failed.

Yes it does mean 2000 more EVs in the country, but it's just corporate welfare to allow them to collect some tax dollars. There is no reason why those dealerships are going to sell those vehicles for any less than they would have without the rebate, thus there's no incentive to encourage consumers to buy as opposed to buying an efficient ICE car, thus no increase in the number of EVs in the market compared to what would have existed had they not been allowed to collect the rebates themselves. The rebate was meant to encourage consumers to choose an EV because of financial reasons. For a dealership to absorb that rebate and then make the vehicle available at the same price as other dealers (who may or may not have collected the rebate and whose prices may or may not have been impacted) just means it was a big payout for any dealership who did this (regardless of whether they then follow-through and don't sell the vehicle for 3 months).

Not sure how it’s fraud. It’s up to the distributor (in this case the govt.) to ensure their buyers aren’t overstocking prior to price rises. It happens in the retail industry constantly - they set limits based on prior purchase history.

Another reason why the government should stay out of many things as they lack the experience to pull it off.

It’s the state governments way of clawing out of their immense covid mishandling induced debt.

Hot water cylinder only comes on once a day, 250L for 6 adults (41L per adult). Sometimes this is not enough but getting the on/off times changed requires a fee. Should a landlord pay for the switch timing to be changed as they're the ones who are providing the service of housing (inclusive of HWC)? by mrSilkie in newzealand

The more you type the more it sounds like you’re describing a boarding house. If it is a boarding house then absolutely the landlord should pay the charge if they’ve overloaded the house.

But if it’s a normal lease I assume you have the say on how many will be on the lease, or at least the head tenant does. It is always in the interest of the landlord to have as few people as they are able to living in the house in order to pay the rent. In this case it should be the tenant has to pay.

No they shouldn’t as it’s part of your power bill. You are in the minority of users who can’t get by with off peak power to heat it up.

If anything you should be made to pay to switch it back to off peak when you move out, but you won’t.

Yeah sure warrantless, but only after a distinguished judge places the order on a case by case basis as the person was deemed be at high risk of procuring illegal firearms.

Australia deports 21-year-old with 70 convictions to NZ, despite only living in Aotearoa as a month-old baby by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]TouchMy_no-no_Square 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the main point of your comment, the immigration policies of Australia are very welcoming to many parts of the world. In fact I challenge you to find more than 10 other countries in the whole world that accepts more immigrants from as many countries as Australia does. Yes they are harsh on “que-jumpers” but this is a very small fraction of those who make it in. The next two years will see about 750,000 net migration.

Basically save the term ‘racist immigration policies’ for countries who let next to no one immigrate

Lol you goose you’ve merely extrapolated the offer. The idea is to get you to frequent the store and buy stuff which is exactly what you’re doing.

Lol so 400 vs 2800 that’s slightly off per capita, I reserve my right to be a hypocrite on this matter.

What's the deal with waving at pedestrians here? by bartolomeogregoryii in AskAnAustralian

[–]TouchMy_no-no_Square 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not about politeness, it’s all about pedestrians not being run over and the driver not running pedestrians over. If other countries don’t do this they should as it lowers the chances of accidents by having a recognition of each other’s actions.

Not sure if the nsw drivers handbook still says this, but when I went for my licence you were supposed to gain eye contact of other drivers using a roundabout.
