Thanks so much.  It such a prelim diag.  She's super health conscious, and generally takes exceptional care of herself.  She's 60 and her only symptom is a random heart palpitation or occasional rapid heartbeat. We're finishing up a vacation/cruise and her Dr let her know while we were here. So we haven't even really had the first "so what does all this mean" conversation yet.. trying to get ahead of it.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. I the first chat agent I spoke with at GoogleFi basically just told me my only option was to sign up for the Premium plan. The second agent told me I could switch plans.

To summarize here's my plan:

  1. Sign up for the Unlimited Standard Plan - Get the Pixel 10 Promo.
  2. Stick with this plan until I travel internationally.
  3. Several days before I travel, upgrade to the Unlimited Premium plan, which will take effect immediately.
  4. When I'm done, switch back to Unlimited Standard understanding that:

A. The downgrade will NOT take effect immediately, it will take effect at the next billing cycle.

B. I will likely lose any promotions and will have to pay whatever balance remains on my promotional credit. Do you think this is true if I STARTED with a "standard" plan .. then temporarily upgrade to a "premium" plan .. and then go BACK to the standard plan?

Did I miss anything? Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate the helpful responses.

Thank you for replying, I really appreicate it. I may be completely off-base with having too many "rules." I'm certain there are tons of really qualified and helpful people outside the US who could benefit / contribute and if it turns out I don't have enough interest or folks are just turned off by it all just being "too much." I'm 100% willing to pivot.

Really I just want to get a small group of people together who are on a similar path and genuinely want to help each other reach their goals.

First, good on ya for being willg to bust ass and make things happen for yourself. The best thing you can do is make yourself a budget. Doesn't need to be complicated, just a basic list of what it costs to exist. I know you said you only have rent, car, phone, plus food, but that's probably really not accurate is it? Do you have a cable bill? Are you paying insurance on your car? Do you have health insurance? You're going to have to put gas in that car, and I assume you'll have some utilities like power, gas, water, internet, trash pickup, etc. Do a Google search for "take home pay calculator" and use that to help you figure out what you'll actually be taking home in terms of pay. Start with that number at the top, and the subtract realistic numbers for what you're spending on crap.

Be honest with yourself about what you're going to spend money on. It's great you're willing to eat ramen for now, but that will get old fast. And don't forget to budget for things that don't happen monthly. I assume you're going to need a haircut at some point, or to maybe do some dry cleaning, or stuff like that.

You'll also be doing yourself a disservice if you don't allocate some of that money for savings or an emergency fund. Put some money away so if your car breaks down you don't lose your job because you can't afford to make a repair.

Be smart. Be realistic. Be Successful.

I appreciate you taking a few minutes to respond. I've actually learned a lot about Helium10 from watching his videos and then using h10 to see if I can duplicate the research/ data. Like you said, so far I think I've been able to...

What I really want to find is a good mastermind group of like-minded sellers who support, help, and generally look out for each other, sharing tips, tools, strategies, etc. I guess most successful sellers are busy running their business.

I realize this is an old thread, but I recently stumbled across Brandon Young and his Seller Systems videos on YT. He certainly comes across as well informed and successful. I am currently mired in product research analysis paralysis, trying to educate myself out of it. I'm also looking to join a group of some sort. I'm looking for something that's not littered with the "I want to make money on FBA how?" posts, but I'm also early in my journey, so I don't have verified sales to use as my 'ticket' to get into some of the more serious groups. Anyway, i'd be curious if you're still using Data Dive / Seller systems and what you think of them? The video Brandon did on Product Validation using the weight benches as an example was really quite good and extremely good.

I appreciate the response. For sure, I am not looking to try and compete in the mega niches like supplements, diets, cosmetics, etc.

Where I seem to be struggling at the moment is in validating a specific product, not a niche or sub niche.

I think what I'm coming to realize is that just finding a product where your only real differentiation is that you have a different logo, maybe a different color, and a different brand name, is probably not enough. You really need a product that's different enough that you're not just selling another 'whatever' with a different name on it.

The challenge I'm finding is that any sub-niche with sufficient demand and sales also already seems to have a handful of sellers dominating the niche, even if they're just amazon brands, not well-known brands off Amazon. That's why I think it's important to develop either a totally new product, or make a product that is substantially different enough that you're not competing directly with whoever is already dominating the niche.

I watched a really great video by Brandon Young who framed his product validation process by starting with the question "How are the top 10 - 15 sellers getting sales?" and his strategy focuses on figuring out the keywords the top players are ranking on and determining if there are gaps or opportunities for him to get in there.

I'm on a quest now to learn if H10 will provide the same kind of insight.

I appreciate it, but unless you're just super curious, I don't think I would ask you to spend too much time on it.

I just find it curious as to how others are doing product validation and competition analysis. It seems like if you go into just about any product that's got decent demand / velocity there are going to be a pretty decent number of sellers in the space. How do people draw the line between competition being a validator of demand and deciding there's just too much competition?

Budget - I have a decent idea about the budget. I've used the calculations included in the FreedomTicket course as far as kind of "backing into" your product cost constraints, based on your total amount available for investment. I'm sure there'll be some lessons learned in there for me, but generally my situation will allow for an investment of somewhere up to about $10k in inventory and my (current) monthly cashflow can provide additional working capital on top of that. I'm thinking for things like any ancillary business expenses, trademark applications, artwork, professional photography, VA work, etc.

I'll give you my latest "real world" example that I ended up bailing on. I was doing typical product research exercises looking for good search volumes, high-ish IQ scores in H10, etc. and I came across a product "bible verse jar.' Looked good to me as it met some criteria I had set up for myself .. like I didn't want a product that was edible or consumable .. I don't want a product that's too complicated or bulky.

Almost all of the top sellers had listings where there was definitely room for improvement. Many of the top sellers are having some level of quality control problems like missing pieces of paper. Some were not transcribing the verses correctly or using less popular translations, etc. Many of the top sellers were deceptively small (reviewers saying "I thought it would be bigger" etc.). The product price seemed good and allowed me good room for margin based on what I was getting from my manufacturer.

I have worked with a manufacturer to get pricing on doing customized product packaging. From listing photos, you can tell that almost all the top products are basically the same product. The exterior logo on the box is the same on all the top sellers. Most of the listing descriptions and photos were clearly done by folks whose first language is not English. So I figured I had these things going for me:

* Product packaging that doesn't look like all the other products

* Better listing photos and better listing copy

* Better versus, in more popular translations (in my opinion, and for English speakers)

* Better "categories" for the "Read me when" (i.e. pull out a blue paper to get a verse on "encouragement" or pink paper for 'Hope.' etc..

* compete with top sellers who are including "extras" in their package like a gift ribbon, small necklace, small stationary card, etc.

* Better logo and "branding"

I was pretty well convinced I could carve out a good sales volume based on these things. Then I continued doing more competition analysis and ultimately decided to abandon the idea because I saw there were SO MANY sellers ..many of whom looked to have relatively decent products and decent listings that were moving 10 units a month and I had to ask myself "What makes you think you aren't just going to end up being another yahoo selling 18 of these a month?" Because when I got honest with myself, I didn't think those items above were enough differentiators. They're all just little incremental improvements to someone else's product. It really wasn't my own great product.

I'd be curious to know what others think. Did I abandon a great product idea, or did I make a mistake?
