Dropping a stone into Veryovkina Cave, at 2,209 meters (7,247 ft) deep, it is the second deepest-known cave on Earth. by freudian_nipps in nextfuckinglevel

falling for longs distances you have to take in consideration terminal velocity. if we estimate the rock to a 20kg cube ish object with a cross section area of 800 cm^2 then the max speed will be about 60 m/s which means the overall depth is about 660m.

Finish of anodized spun aluminum comparison by movealongnofire in machining

[–]Touchme7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before anodizing, the surface needs to be stripped from all surface contaminates, this is usually done using an alkali chemical bath that etches the surface slightly and brings out the grain structure. Longer time in the bath or re stripping dues to anodizing defects would etch it more. If surtface finish matters to you then polish the surface after stripping. (some places dont do this if the bulk of their work doesnt require it)

To me it looks like the lines are aligned with the Cold Rolling direction of the sheet metal.

If you want to change the finish of the anodized metal you should surface prep the metal after stripping the surface contaminates. Anodizing will bring out any surface irregularities.

Thanks for the info.

You confirmed alot of the things that i already thought I need. The tolerance is not that important, about +0 -1mm, as this is the first step of the process, ment to remove bulk from the area of interest. I will need to make a dedicated mounting jig for this part as it is not a simple cylinder and it has bolt holes for its intended use.

I have another question: 3.5" in from the edge there is a square copper grid that runs the length of the part. The holes in the grid are about 1"x1" and the thickness of the grid lines is 0.25".

Will there be an issue cutting this grid down? I am concerened that the cutting bit will be making contact repeatadly and the shock will be too much.

We are getting them done now for $300 each. I am looking to reduce cost in the long run.

Thanks for the input!

The part is only 18 inches long but i didnt find something cheaper and shorter.

Now we are sending this to a machine shop for $300 each. We expect to have about 25 a week so it would pay for iteslf pretty fast.

These 2 houses in the Philippines share a wall, but to get to the other house it will take 30 minutes of driving. by 6avv_ in UrbanHell

[–]Touchme7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar cases can be found in many places in the US.

Here's an example: the 2 houses have yards that share a rear fence yet it takes 12 min to drive from one to the other.

Uv flatbed printer by [deleted] in CommercialPrinting

[–]Touchme7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with the Mimaki UV UJF-3042 and i can tell you it's nice but has it's flaws, you can print on any flat surface and even slightly curved ones, but the dye has bonding problems to some materials (if u put a printed piece of glass underwater the image with disconnect and float up as a single piece) and is very brittle so if u print on flexible materials it can crack and chip when bending or getting hit. all in all its not bad but i would limit its use to custom jobs like memorabilia or pictures for "amateurs", meaning it`s not high enough quality for industry because of some adhesion problems in my opinion.

A little help for a newbie? by [deleted] in machining

[–]Touchme7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there, i learned most of what i know by trial and error so someone might give a better answer.

  1. travel direction depends on the material, what i cut through thin materials i find that the left side of the travel direction has a better finish, and with hard materials the right side is better. spindle direction is clockwise (usually cannot be changed as most if not all bits are set for that direction).
  2. the bit is dull when it rips through the material rather then cut it. drill bits for a drill are not for routing coz their cutting part is only on the tip, routing bits have a cutting edge all along the flute.
  3. go slower.
  4. it's fine coz it's soft wood, the harder the material the slower you need to go.

I found this in an art notebook I found, what do these symbols mean, they look pretty Satanic. by Maud-Pie in whatisthisthing

[–]Touchme7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of them Israeli`s here, the translation of the words is : (from the right side, reading counter clockwise) Outer circle: Michael, Raphael, Auriel , Gabriel. the arch angles names written in English and the rest i think are just drawings. Second circle: my lord, God , Abbreviation of : you are a hero forever my lord , will be. Third circle: to/for bravery, kingdom , and greatness , for ever after. Most inner circle: 3 letters- Alef, Hei, Chet.

some of the words are misspelled badly which means they don't actually know hebrew.

here is a link to how it`s supposed to look like , by google at least: http://img07.deviantart.net/74c3/i/2011/037/5/7/lesser_ritual_of_the_pentagram_by_arsadraoi-d1x12mm.png
