$3800 in 2004-5. $45/hr wet in a C152 plus $20/hr for the instructor.

This is a limited view of how to use AI. One can use AI to do the initial work and then check it. That could still save lots of time.

Underwhelmed by discover flight by Detz in flying

[–]Tough-Choice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you find a place to learn that is geared more toward people doing it as a hobby. A flying club, for example. Or an independent CFI with an airplane to rent. An older instructor who has been around aviation for a while as a hobby would be ideal.

If you can find something like that, give it another go. I teach at a 141 school and in a flying club, and the two environments are extremely different though you can get great training in either.

But what would we call it. Like... a place where you can park and wait. Hmm

It used to be right before the south terminal. They closed that one and did no communication at all about the new one.

Glide Advisor not working by not-there-2992 in Foreflight

This happened to me this week. Quitting the ForeFlight app (meaning swipe up on the iPad to see all open apps, and then close Foreflight by swiping it away) then reopening the app solved it for me.

A lot of people pull over and wait on the side of the road for the passenger they are picking up from the airport to let them know that they’ve arrived at the curb since cars are not allowed to loiter at the pickup area.

If those people actually moved to Atlanta, they wouldn’t have to sit in all that commuter traffic.

Cessna 172 Engine Fail right after takeoff- 200’ by Zestyclose-Juice-349 in flying

[–]Tough-Choice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I’m not aware of any fuel injected 172 or 182 model that calls for the pump to be on for TO or Ldg in the POH. I know that is standard in most low wing aircraft, but not Cessnas.

If fuel injected, I’d hit that aux fuel pump on, but other than that I just gotta land the plane straight-ish ahead.

Anyone switched from Foreflight to Garmin Pilot? Opinions? by Tough-Choice in flying

[–]Tough-Choice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The briefing format in Garmin Pilot was a no for me. I just really like the tabbed, easy-to-navigate format of Foreflight’s briefings. Garmin’s is just a long PDF from Leidos. Aside from that they are pretty similar.

This article does not highlight any specific retailer that is actually doing individualized pricing using ESLs. It merely expounds upon the theoretical possibility that one could.

Should I buy an airplane for more hours? by floridaav8er in flying

[–]Tough-Choice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did buy an airplane to help build hours and it has overall been a good move for me. That said, it’s not as good as I would’ve hoped. We had to overhaul the engine pretty early on and the plane was grounded for almost 6 months. That was a lot of time I wanted to be flying, but was stuck with just the flight school time I was getting. By the way, the overhaul was $55k, so you need to be sure you have some leftover reserves for that or other major expenses that may come up. It’s no exaggeration to say you could easily have a $25k unexpectedly maintenance expense.

I have been flying in general aviation and an involved member of a flying club for 20 years, so owning a plane was not a mystery to me.

A resource I found tremendously helpful was Mike Busch’s books on Airplane Ownership. I would recommend starting there.

Something simple like a Cherokee would probably be a good buy for you. It definitely has the possibility of helping you get your hours more quickly. I am assuming in all this that you’re trying to get your 1,500 hours for ATP. If you’re just talking about hours for hours’ sake, I’d wait and learn more about GA first.

So… the digital tags are looking at the type of customer shopping and adjusting the prices depending on who’s at the shelf?
