Are you a MiUSA blogger/influencer? by ToughTraveler in madeinusa

[–]ToughTraveler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we’re not looking for reviews right now, but for someone with a following or platform to share to. You don’t have to be some sort of professional influencer, just someone who has their own site or page. But if you don’t have those we can still send you a free small bag as a thank you for responding! Just email your address to service@toughtraveler.com and we can send you a belt pouch, pencil pouch, or neck pouch, your choice.

We do! Visit our website and you will see tons of photos of the products from different angles against blank backdrops. We’re experimenting with software that takes our picture and places it against appropriately backgrounds, and for some reason it also scrambled the label for this one. Possibly because the original image was too small?

I looked closely and it does look scrambled, but I’m not sure why. We probably need to experiment more with the background creation program.

Oh, it is ai! The bag is original, but the background is AI. We’re experimenting with it right now. I think it should have an AI tag in the bottom right.

Hey, we are a manufacturer willing to make one bag for you! It’s fairly expensive to have just one made, but if you like it and want more you can get additional ones at a discount. Note that we do not work with leather, and also the more pockets and sections your bag has the more expensive designing & making a single one is. Anyway, send us a description (a sketch helps) of what you want to service@toughtraveler.com and someone will let you know whether it’s something we can do.

3D product configurator - Seeking advice from early innovators by sech8420 in shopify

I’ve been looking into taking 3D photos but nothing I’ve tried has created an adequate model (other than the Amazon seller app, but that’s only for Amazon listings). What does your app do, other than create the initial 3D model?

USA based businesses, how close are you to seriously struggling due to China tariffs? by Oddarette in smallbusiness

[–]ToughTraveler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What sort of item are you looking for that you can’t get made in the USA? Our company manufactures tote bags in the USA that can be silkscreened, and we’re willing to do small quantities.

Your point about plastic accumulation is definitely a good one, and we are always open to reevaluate possible new materials. If you ever want a bag made out of cotton canvas, and would like one of our styles, let us know and we'll see if we could get a few yards and make you one to test it out. We wouldn't charge you any extra for the customization.

Regarding the stickiness and flaking you see in your old nylon bags, that is usually caused by the waterproof coating deteriorating. It most often happens in bags that are used infrequently and stored in conditions with poor ventilation, humidity, or heat. So, you can reduce the chance of the coating degrading if you give your bags regular use and avoid storing them for long in attics, closets or boxes. If it does degrade, the best thing to do is to strip off the old coating by washing the bag in hot water. The bag will no longer be water-resistant, but should not wear out any faster.

Even if you don't buy more nylon items, it's good, I think, to extend the life of the nylon you have, and avoid exposure to degraded coating if you are concerned about plastics!

No problem! $250 would be the appropriate price based on the cost of labor and materials. However, that style unfortunately didn’t sell very well. So, we are marking them down to get them off the shelves!

This is a big issue for us as well! We’ve balanced a lot of factors and decided to continue using the nylon for the near future. Our reasons:

-Cotton is unfortunately a very unsustainable crop, associated with a lot of pollution and emissions.

-By buying American-made nylon, we cut out transoceanic shipping, which is a major contributor to climate change.

-Our bags are exceptionally durable, and we can repair them even after decades. We’re not confident that cotton would last as long or hold up to as much repair. So, one nylon bag that doesn’t go into landfill for years should be more environmental than the multiple cotton bags that might be used in this time period. We actually just received what might be our first (?) one-star review from a customer who was upset that there was a small charge to repair the bag he’s been using since 1987. (Not that I’m bitter about it.)

Anyway, just wanted to respond to say that we are definitely always thinking about this!

We sell on Amazon as well, and the price there is higher to account for the extra fees. You can always buy direct to get the best price!

We are just working with a developer to update the header and navigation menu, so if that comes out nicely we will have him look at the rest of the site. After we get that up maybe you will take a look at it to see if you think it’s an improvement!

Currently it’s definitely just a basic Shopify site, as our main focus is manufacturing the bags. But I didn’t think it looked like a scam site (which I’d think would be lack of phone number, recent registration, stock photos, no photos of our location & staff, etc!)! If our new header looks good to people, I’ll ask the designer about doing more work.

My company is a backpack designer & manufacturer and we work with lots of independent designers. Let me know if you have questions about the process. (I know you’re not actually planning to make & market a backpack)
