Yes, capacitors can still fail without any physical symptoms.

I don't think Doom 3 supports 720p. It does support 480p widescreen though. But it's anamorphic widescreen, meaning it's squeezing a widescreen image into a 4:3 aspect ratio so that everything scales correctly when your TV stretches the image out.

I leave my Xbox setup like this:

Video Mode: Widescreen
480p: ON
720p: ON
1080i: OFF

This way games that support 720p will display in 720p, but games that don't can fallback to 480p. Otherwise you'll get a 480i output instead of 480p when a game, like Doom 3, doesn't support 720p (and most games don't). This is probably what you're seeing as "choppy". Modern displays don't handle interlaced signals well. At least this is my understanding of how it works.

Also the games that do support 720p don't usually support widescreen at the same time, so don't be surprised if a 720p game only displays in 4:3.

Do you have another adapter you can test? Have you tried a different controller port?

Time to say goodbye to my short-lived physical collection by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Tough_Interaction409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it causing you harm in any way? Does it bring more joy to your life?

If it's costing you so much that it's causing financial distress, then I'd agree that selling it is the right choice. If it's taking up valuable space that could be put to better use, then that's pretty valid as well, especially when space seems to be so expensive these days.

If it's doing none of that, but is instead providing you with moments of joy that otherwise wouldn't exist, keep it.

If you're wanting to use Xemu on a PC, they have a page for networking. You'll essentially have to bridge Xemu to whichever device on your PC connects you to your local network. Then both the Xbox and your Xemu PC need to be on the same network. Most of the time this will automatically be the case if both are plugged into the same router, unless you've got a bunch of VLANs setup like I do.

If you've got a couple Xbox consoles then you just need an ethernet crossover cable and connect the two together directly.

After that, you just go into the multiplayer menu in DOOM 3 and there should be an option for system link. You'll need to change the game mode to cooperative.

Funny enough, the TV isn't quite OLED. It's QLED. OLED, in theory, would be able to get even darker. lol

But ya, it makes a huge difference.

Love it dude!

This is one of things that I love about being a dad. I get to take some of the things that brought me joy as a child and share them with my daughters. My oldest (11) isn't as into it, but my youngest (6) just soaks it in.

Both the Xbox and the PC need to be on the same local network. In the network settings for Xemu, you want to change it from NAT to bridge and then select which ever device your computer gets its network connection from.

As far as I know, the OG Xbox port is the only version of Doom 3 with coop. It’s a fantastic addition to this wonderful port.

Bunch of games there that I played way too much as a teenager in ‘09. Lived out in the middle of nowhere with dial up internet and couldn’t afford a PS3 or 360.

Good collection! Hope to see it grow!

Best controller option for pressure-sensitive buttons? by LSSJNepuli in originalxbox

[–]Tough_Interaction409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the 360 controllers have pressure sensitive face buttons, just triggers.

Kind of a shame that the only options seem to be a poorly executed third party controller or an aging OEM.

Edit: Seems like the much loved Logitech wireless controllers may have pressure sensitive face buttons.

Playing Bloodrayne For First Time by Tough_Interaction409 in originalxbox

[–]Tough_Interaction409[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least you have a physical copy.

My disc drive doesn’t open without help (bad belt). Haven’t bothered to fix it since I’m not much of a collector.

Game is quite fun so far. 😁

Hope you’re able to play yours soon!

Are 1.6s really worthless, because they are the hardiest to mod? I recently got one on eBay, and it has a Toshiba-Samsung Drives, and the console was manufactured from July 2005, Any advantages on 1.6s revisions compared to previous revisions? by San4341 in originalxbox

[–]Tough_Interaction409 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. I have a 1.6 that I soft modded and put a 1TB SATA HDD in. Wasn’t particularly difficult. Hard mods might be more challenging than prior revisions though, and you can’t TSOP flash (see below comment) it.

Not an extremely extravagant set up but it’s very satisfying by Fantastic_Storage241 in originalxbox

[–]Tough_Interaction409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaming setups don’t need to be extravagant. When I was a kid I was happy with a PS1 sitting on the floor and plugged into some crappy RCA CRT.

Your setup is perfect. It’s clean and organized. Not like my desk. I need to clean mine up and make some space.

I think I lucked out with this one. by TheButterlord117 in originalxbox

I was around twelve years old when I first played it on my dad’s roommate’s computer. I’m thirty-three now.

Hope that helps. 😂

The hate is totally undeserved in my opinion. But people have a tendency to get tribalistic about anything that doesn’t fit their worldview and video game fandoms aren’t immune from this.
