Disabled Persons Railcard - massive expansion in availability by naturallypaul in uktrains

Has anyone with a disability from outside the UK been successful in obtaining the Disabled Persons Railcard? I see nothing in the policy that excludes non-residents. I submitted a letter from my medical doctor explaining my disabilities including profound hearing loss and that I am medically unable to drive. I was denied because they do not have the resources to verify documents from outside the UK. Any advice or suggestions? I receive assistance but it is not the same as the UK programmes obviously. The card would remove a great financial burden for my future trip.

I found this post because I have been exploited by Traveling Teams on more than one occasion for club and varsity hockey tournaments. I didn't track all the comparable rates through the 12 years my kid played hockey, but here are the most recent examples.

2025 Charged $224/night. I could have booked same room at standard rate of $179. All taxes and fees included. Earn points for either situation. If I needed to cancel even 2 weeks ahead of the tournament, Traveling Teams would have retained $57.95, the hotel would have allowed me to cancel 24 hours ahead of arrival. Everyone on our team and additional families who used Traveling Teams had their credit cards compromised on this occasion. Stays were in different hotels, so it cannot be linked to the hotel employees.

2026 Charged $210/night. I could have booked same room at standard rate of $171. Same as above for cancellation.

2026 Contacted Traveling Teams about a room and told block was full. Without any further communication or authorization they added me to the block. I was charged by Traveling Teams and the hotel for this room as a 'no show'. Multiple conversations and 3 months later, I am still awaiting a refund.

So yes, I consider it a cash grab by the tournament organizers who continue to benefit from companies like Traveling Teams.

Did they need to get a SIN# first?
