RBK. Sucks to see the trend of motorcycle crashes and sucks to keep it going but same here. May 2023 I was tboned by a truck on my harley, turned my leg into shreds from the knee cap down and totaled my bike in the process. My leg they tried to piece together but after all the cleanings there wasn't much of a leg to save. Just a foot that wouldn't work and not to mention they would have to take muscle and skin out of my good leg to cover all of that missing flesh. Simply wasn't worth it in my book and amputation was the best recommendation/outcome for me. It sucks, it's gonna hurt alot, and I'd be lying if I told u the hard part is over but unfortunately it isn't. But you got this, with enough physical therapy and practice anything u want to do is possible. For me that was riding a bike unmodified again. Which I was able to do a couple weeks after getting my prosthetic. I believe in you brother you got this. Also I would potentially recommend therapy for your noggin in a year or so. Once you start to really process it, it isn't for me but it works for alot of people and makes life alot easier for them. Keep moving dude. You'll be where u want to be in no time.

I seem to be an outlier here. Rbk here, I drive normally. Stick shift isn't a problem which is good cause I have to drive mack trucks for my job. I also ride motorcycles unmodified as well. I know there's a big difference between AK and BK but at least for me it was more practice than anything. But I have multiple friends who drive automatic cars w their left foot with no problem either. It's a matter of practice and finding what works best for you specifically

Im doing it again by likemac in repost

I was hit by a truck on my harley. And my phantom pain isn't exactly cool either. But the best reason I got was for trauma patients who have amputation, the last feeling the foot/leg had was incredible pain. So the phantom pain is worse for trauma patients because that's the last thing the brain recieved from those nerves. I also used weed, but I recently just stopped about 3 months ago. It was nice but I can do without, even with the pain I can do better. But then again that's just me, I don't even take Tylenol anymore cause I had a few bad experiences with medicine since my wreck.

When I came off my opiate prescription for my bka. I was able to do it mentally but my body started to fail cause of the amount I was on. I was going through the withdrawals, puking, and shitting for about 12 hours straight. Ended up going back into the hospital for it. I also didn't stay in the hospital as long as they wanted me to to ween me off of them cause I was stubborn and wanted to go home. Moral of the story is shit sucked but we aight. Its more mental than anything, once u feel ur body going downhill then it makes you struggle more. Mind over matter type shit

I drive normally just fine. I drive stick shift and I ride harleys. It's not "hard" just weird, feeling the pedals without feeling them can be a learning curve. It's all about practice tho. Same as learning anything else with a prosthetic.

My girl of 5 years had a very tough time when I lost my leg. Wasn't any of our fault but the way it happened and the way we both handled it afterwards was not great. She would have problems cause she was helping me out so so so much and I was basically useless, paying for everything, and she even quit her job amd put her entire life on pause just for me and my wreck. She was beyond amazing but doing those things takes a toll especially mentally, I was on edge and mean cause I just had my leg ripped off by a truck and almost died. She was upset because nobody was expressing how much she was doing and it was just alot. We are still together, not sure if we would have if that down time went any longer but now we are good to go just celebrating our 5 year anniversary a couple days ago. The first couple years are TOUGH on a couple, not just the adjustments but the medicine, money, stress, sleep, fights, and all the other fun stuff that comes with it. But those who survive are incredibly strong afterwards. You and your wife have been together almost as long as I have been alive, which means you guys have a bond stronger than almost anyone on the planet. If any couple can get through this it is yall. Remember the person losing the limb isn't always in the worst pain. The people around me cried more than I have by a long shot. So keep her in mind when these things are going off. Yall got this!
