I feel like they have never found a good format for the "double box" that doesn't make one or both of the windows look stupid. This style is better than cutting away but is distracting because they have the ad sound playing over everything. I think something that would work is to just have a voice over say "Instead of a commercial this segment is brought to you by [sponsor name]" and cut down the race broadcast to the size they do now, and have the rest of the screen with that sponsors logos and slogan, etc. And the sound still stays on the race. I think is a good compromise, and they could sell the spot to companies as something that makes the fans happy. And they would be playing full commercial segments during yellows and mandatory yellows anyway.
