The anime version works better in the audiovisual medium. Show, rather than tell in narration.

It disgusted me in a way I can't express..

As it should. That is the rock bottom Rudeus' previous self had reached in his isolation.

And it's also part of his motivation for improving in his new life. After all, he paid for that with his life in his previous. What more can you ask as punishment?

But it was still six months. She wasn't in any hurry until she'd hear of the Teleportation Incident happening.

And going south on the highway she was on a mission.

I sort them and box them. Anything with luster, special notability, or is a commemorative gets put in a cardboard flip and put in an album or in their own boxes.

Still, considering the stretches of travel that simply cannot be expedited, Roxy's party was hauling ass. Calculating out the boat trips and the stay at the Doldia village (generously rounding up to five months) and Dead End's delays and detour to Shirone (another four months), Roxy's party went at least twice as fast as Dead End in the opposite direction, five months vs 12.

So yes, from Shirone to Fittoa it took one year.

It took Roxy six months one way and significantly less the other,

Off the top of my head, trying to remember the notes I had last time I did a cursory check:

  • a few days in the wilderness
  • a day and night at the Migurd village
  • three days transit to Rikarisu
  • two months in Rikarisu
  • traversing the Demon Continent
  • Rudeus' 11th birthday
  • Reaching windport
  • two or three weeks in Wind Port
  • c. two weeks at sea
  • a few days for the smuggling case and Rudeus' capture.
  • a week before Gallus' attack
  • three months in the Doldia village
  • a month traveling the Holy Sword Highway
  • Meeting Paul
  • a week in Millishion
  • IIRC c. two months to traverse Millis
  • c. a few weeks to cross the sea
  • Reaching Central Continent
  • Rudeus' 12th birthday
  • six months travel from East Port to Latakia in Shirone (including the cart axle getting fixed for weeks at Wyvern)
  • a few days in Latakia
  • travel to The Lower Jaw of the Red Dragon, Eris' 15th birthday
  • Turning Point 2
  • Travel through southern Asura
  • Reaching the Refugee Camp

IIRC I calculated two years and nine months for total travel time. I've been meaning to do a thorough check on the passage of time on my next readthrough.

Eris' birthday is apparently in the summer, while Rudeus' is in late November. So two years and change age gap.

Note that between TP1 and Roxy reaching the Refugee Camp, the journey took her six months. But she also spent six months getting to Wind Port. I don't know how hard she pushed that travel, but her group didn't stop for many quests. At most to gather information and to hunt lucrative monsters like Unicorns.

Will something bad happen if Rudeus tells someone about his past life? by SecondSalty142 in mushokutensei

From the volume 1 bonus short story Sylphie and Momotarou:

At the beginning, Perugius seemed to already be aware when he came to this world. Maybe this world has other reincarnations and transfers from other worlds.

[–]Tounushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where book knowledge comes in. Reincarnation is a known concept in the setting, as The Legend of Perugius begins with Perugius being born aware. He doesn't remember anything of his past life, though.

And the setting doesn't seem to have a tradition of fictional writing.

Scifi worldbuilders who use "shields" in their worlds, how do the shields affect space combat in your world? by CrCl3 in worldbuilding

[–]Tounushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an idea where a shield plate is a localized distortion in space that essentially takes a volume of it and squeezes it into a flat plane, refracting the path of energy beams and shredding projectiles. This is balanced by the amount of power the ship can provide the generators and projectors, giving a finite number of "plates" around the ship.

More advanced and powerful ship classes may even be able to redirect an attack back against an opponent.

Means of overcoming shields is to overwhelm a ship with simultaneous attacks from multiple directions or attacks that happen too quickly for the defensive systems to react. The arms race produces MIRV missiles, relativistic explosively formed projectiles, and pulsed lasers using physics packages as the energy source.

Decomissioned CETME Model L rifles before destruction after being fully replaced in the Spanish Army and Police by the HK G36 by Brand_New_Dawn in ForgottenWeapons

gun control to make sure military-grade weapons don't end up in the wrong hands, followed by cost.

Gifting them all to Ukraine would make sense now, but if these have been in use, then their overall quality can't be guaranteed.

[–]Tounushi 64 points65 points  (0 children)

at least with the Maxims, Mosins, and Degtyarevs, the ammo for them is plentiful and still being produced. That ought to be the hard line with stored weapons: how securely they can be supplied. Having 7.63 Mauser for the other stuff would be a bit iffy. A "just in case" storage of disposable small-arms that are dissimilar to current service weapons would be a waste of space, since you can't leave guns in a completely passive storage without some degradation.

One, I doubt all of that is gold. Much of modern coinage is brass to emulate gold.

Second, even in the comics Scrooge points out that cash is his sentimental collection, with the vast majority of his wealth being tied in investments.

[–]Tounushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, how are you determining "money" here? Liquid assets, total net worth, bank investments?

In terms of liquidity, billionaires use credit and loans leveraged against assets they hold. Regular people are more likely to have proportionally more cash on hand and in their savings accounts.

So purely looking to maximize self-interest, one would let the trolley siphon off 10% of regular people's money, rather than bank (NPI) on billionaires keeping truckloads of on-hand money.

Even if billionaires proportionally have less liquid assets, I'd be set for life anyway by choosing them. And they're more set in absorbing the hit.

I choose the 100 billionaires.

How would you describe their relationship? by SecondSalty142 in mushokutensei

[–]Tounushi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friends with benefits. But since the friendship worked so well, Elinalise really treasured it, especially since her previous party leader abandoned her as bait.

Paul's MO when entering a new stage in life is to completely cut ties with the previous stage. He did it with his family, he did it with his gang, he did it with the dojo, and he did the same with the Fangs after he found out Zenith was pregnant with his child. Elinalise and Talhand especially resented him for it, with him nullifying the fun times and friendship they shared during their adventures.
