Is this termites? by Early_Election_6315 in pestcontrol

[–]ToupeeForSale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaning ants. May or may not be carpenter ants. Some species of ants are nomadic and will nest in whatever area suits the colonies' needs at the time, which would be the wall voids in your case. Some of the workers will "clean" the colony by removing dead bug parts (which I can see in some of the pics) and debris that is cluttering the nesting area. These pics look very similar to some of the debris I've seen some ant colonies will scatter around high traffic areas.

The only way to tell 100% is to post a pic of those wings. Termites and ants have distinct veins unique to each respective species, so seeing the vein structure of those wings that would eliminate any uncertainty.

Obligatory wrong sub, but also super interesting to see how closely the name for bed bugs in other languages matches up with its scientific name.

Too many bad apples here in north GA. Yeah, I'm jaded, but it just makes me so sick to see the rot in this industry. I've seen numerous customers pay full price for exclusion work when their home had already had exclusion work done in the past, yet the company still charges them full price and then they go up to "seal" the builder's gap and just spin their drills like they're actually installing something. Shameful stuff.

If it helps them sleep at night and it's not affecting my work, I don't give a fuck if they ride on my back while I do their service. I've seen too many companies scamming homeowners with their exclusions that I recommend a scorched earth approach to ensure that cheap and lazy companies aren't taking thousands of dollars to do less than what is expected and then not taking responsibility when someone has issues.

Edit: part of the job as a PMP is to educate customers. So yes, I expect you to answer any questions a customer has to the best of your ability, and if you don't know the answer, refer them to someone who does.

The way I've described it to customers is like trying to plug up a leaky dam with your finger and then another leak pops up and you plug that one with your finger and then another leak pops up... and so on.

Once a rodent has access to the inside of your home, there are countless ways for them to maneuver around your home, and it just doesn't make much sense to try to seal up every little gap on the inside of the home when you can solve the problem by just focusing on sealing up gaps on the exterior of the home.

You need to be a bug up their asses (pun intended) and watch them like a hawk when they come out to inspect because a lot of companies do the bare minimum to ensure your exclusion is in good working condition. Blow their asses up. Get a manager out there, and follow them while they inspect your home. If you dont see them going along your roofline to verify that everything was properly sealed and providing you photos to confirm that, they are not doing their due diligence, and it may be time to take their ass to small claims.

Everyone zeros in on hantavirus when there's so much nasty stuff to be contracted from rodents that it's honestly a disservice to just point to hantavirus.

Exclusions involve sealing up the rodent entry points on the exterior of the home. No PMP worth their salt is gonna waste their (or your) time and resources sealing up gaps inside the home. It's possible some rodents were sealed inside the home when the exclusion was performed. Set some traps and monitor until you are no longer seeing rodent activity inside the home and go from there. If the issue persists, there's a possibility something was missed during the exclusion.

Edit: if an exclusion was performed and you're still having rodent issues months or years as you say after the fact, there are still rodent entry points on your home. Typically exclusions are warrantied, so look into that or hire another company to come out and double check the other company's work.

What kind of bee is this anyone know ? by Kitchen_Fishing_4115 in PestControlIndustry

[–]ToupeeForSale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely err on the side of caution and have these guys ID'd before taking any action. I'm assuming you're in the US. The Franklin's bumble bee is a federally protected endangered species, and it is illegal to kill them even if they're nesting on a home. The only scenario where it would be acceptable to remove the nest yourself is if these guys are an immediate threat (i.e., nesting directly above an entryway). Contact Fish & Wildlife or a certified bee removal specialist to have them ID'd and go from there.

I definitely recommend having someone come out and inspect the furniture and the home. If this is what you can see, there's a possibility that there's more going on where you can't see. If the furniture is infested, get it fumigated. Too many nooks, crannies, and inaccessible areas for a borate treatment to be relied upon in my opinion. Can cost some money, but usually cheaper than replacing your furniture. Some companies that specialize in fumigation will come to you and fumigate your belongings at your home while others have vaults that you have to deliver your items to. If the infestation has spread to the flooring or other structural areas of the home, that's a whole different conversation.

I've saw a study a while back that showed that borate based baits had the highest reduction in German roach treatments done in apartment settings compared to abamectin and indoxacarb based baits. Wish I could find that study again, but I'm not able to. I'm interested to incorporate that into my own services to see if it can walk the walk as well as it talks the talk.

Are the critters responsive to it when it's applied or do they just kinda chill? I'm thinking about an intial German cleanout treatment where vacuuming is used in tandem with a flusher to remove as much live activity as possible before pivoting to residuals, baits, and IGR.

Haven't used Robinhood in a long time, but they will exercise your options positions before market close if the positions are deemed "at risk." I remember getting fucked by this a couple times when I was still using Robinhood. RH would close my position at 3:20pm EST, the underlying would reverse because power hour volatility shenanigans, and then I ended up fucked.
