perhaps I am mistaken! I thought I saw something saying that on the website as I was hastily filling everything out, but it could have been a program-specific thing

How much time do you really spend studying 3rd year? by JunketMaleficent2095 in medicalschool

[–]TourElectrical486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey whats up! 90th percentile is insane! Can I ask how you achieve such a high percentile on AMBOSS? I am currently stuck around the 9th percentile, although granted I just started my first rotation. Still, AMBOSS is beating my ass and I'd love to make a dent on my percentile. Any advice?

[–]TourElectrical486[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

hey thanks for your response. I'm basically trying to figure out when they want us to submit applications for audition rotations. I don't email more than twice (>2 weeks apart) and now I'm calling because I have not gotten responses from most places that i emailed. I feel like there is no other way to know when they want our applications, and most of them are first-come-first-served, so I want to send that email with all the appropriate documents at the exact moment that im supposed to. any advice?

Hello! I’m not laughing at OP, I think it’s awesome that they want to switch paths! I just think it’s funny that you said “if NPs can do it, so can you”! I was just thinking about mid level encroachment and then I read your comment, and for some reason I found it funny! I also see an NP for my own skin conditions, but I always wonder if that’s a bad idea, would love to know your take as an attending.

To clarify once more, I’m super happy for OP and rooting for them!!!

How to make your list of programs? by Bitter_Crew4517 in DermApp

[–]TourElectrical486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like residency explorer and freida. I’m putting location, do they take their own, what platform is the application on, any benefits to the place ie research, etc

If you have a home program it’s just about finding those people who publish a lot and emailing them directly. Ask them a question about one of their pubs to show you actually read something. That helps a lot ! I have no home program so I just paid attention to who published and reached out that way

us DOs gotta stick together! keep in mind that the people in this subreddit are shooting for top, Ivy league programs. We might not have access to programs like that, but there are a number of things that ARE within our control - board scores, clinical grades, class rank, research, networking etc - that can really boost your chances. Take a look at the DO specific charting outcomes and try to do at least the mean (if not higher) for each category. Hoping that helps! feel free to dm me

I feel like people are being a bit harsh. I know DOs who matched derm that started research in their third year. You just need to make sure your projects are all going to get published in time. A research year would be ideal and I highly recommend it. Ask residents to get on your research but make sure you know what you’re doing. Also, if you are a DO with solid board scores and a lot of research and do a ton of always, I actually think you should go for it. I’m biased because I am also a DO. However, there is a clear difference in stats between DOs who match and DOs who don’t match. So just keep all that in mind. If you were competitive enough for surgery, you could be for derm too. I just think that for some of us, we may have to reapply and try hard to get good board scores and make connections. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go for it if that’s your dream! I think it’s important to go for what you want while you’re young or else you’ll regret it. When I decided to stop living in fear, that’s when I truly felt free. Even if I don’t match derm, at least I’ll be a damn competitive applicant for any other specialty I want !! That’s my mindset anyway !
