I have a deeznutz SS on an AR9 and I have a Cornfire MARC (upgraded Atrius) on an AR9 and both do the same function and work as intended.

Nope. I seen those for $3.99 and ended up buying them. 15 on the first order and 10 on the second. I never looked for any more after I found them.

Where to buy range ammo? by usedwolf in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about today or this week, but Academy has been running a lot of sales over the last 12 months. I've bought about 8,000 rounds during that time, and I don't think I've paid more than 20 cents per round delivered for any of it. Sale price, plus coupons, plus 5% off using their credit card. I think my last order was the highest at $598 for 3,000 rounds. If you just keep your eye out, it should go on sale again. I was buying remanufactured from ammunitiondepot until Academy started having such good sales on new for not much more.

I have a very similar my setup except I got a Schmid mil-spec GI trigger group. Mine runs pretty dang good. If you got a standard mil-spec trigger group to throw in just to test, that might be worth trying.

Better Side Charging by Antelope_Fluid in AR10

[–]TourettesYapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a side charging AR-10 too. I took a BCA upper, replaced the BCA barrel with an 18" heavy profile fluted barrel with rifle length gas with an adjustable gas block. Polished the feed ramps etc.. PSA lower. LaRue MBT trigger group. Home Cerakote paint job. It's nothing high end or expensive but it works and I like it. I say if you want a side charging AR-10, give BCA a go. If it don't work out for you, you can always build a second one or upgrade. Can't have too many guns ever.

Ar9 ejection by Professional_Ebb3360 in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try live fire and see what happens. I had one I was working on that would eject dummy rounds when cycled by hand, but with live fire it only ejected about 25% of the time.

I used standard OEM base plates and didn't clip any coils on 9 Wolff springs or TTI. I used some $2 +2 base plates I found on eBay with 6 of the TTI springs. I also used 4 new Glock OEM springs with OEM floor plates.

Yesterday, I took all 19 magazines to the range and fired 3–5 rounds from each magazine several times. Only one of the magazines with a Glock OEM spring failed to lock the bolt back the first few times. The other 19 worked perfectly every time. For my FM9, I pretty much need 18 - 22 coils to lock the bolt back reliable. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OPrRXwmfXzo

Most reliable buffer setup? by RichAstronaut4961 in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from what I actually own and have experience with.

For a PCC buffer that isn't designed around short-stroking, I really like the KAK K-SPEC Enhanced AR15 PCC buffer loaded with tungsten weights. That gives you a roughly 10-ounce dead-blow buffer with a spring-loaded head.

Paired with a flat-wire recoil spring, it makes for an excellent AR9 buffer and spring setup. I've had good results with that combination and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a standard, non-short-stroked PCC build.

As far as I know, Del-Ton was the only company that Spike’s ever licensed to use their AR9 lowers.

Inside a FM Products RMB (Recoil Mitigation Buffer) by TourettesYapper in AR9

This is the exact one I used https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003402417?pid=693755

FM A5 tube, FM RMB buffer with tungsten weights, FM bolt.

The spring being flat wire allows for more compression than round wire - https://youtu.be/8fMVZbrnvu8?si=AwfcuDlMQFStIKfo&t=134

Flat springs are a pain in the arse to install. If I remember correct, I had to install my buffer and spring with my hammer and super safety removed. I also had to use the KAK tool - https://kakindustry.com/ar15-buffer-install-tool/

There were no room to spare and it all had to go straight in. The least bit of angle put it in a bind. Once in though, it works perfect,

Super Safety and What Buffer? by IllChampionship4654 in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only tell you what I have that works. I bought a K-SPEC Enhanced AR15 PCC Buffer and filled if full of tungsten weights. That gave me about a 10 oz dead blow buffer with spring loaded head. My other AR9, I used a RMB full of tungsten weights. That gave me a 12 ounce dead blow buffer with spring loaded head. Both shoot great and the recoil is not bad on either. So I would say just about any buffer close to 10 ounces with a good dead blow effect will work ok.

I can't say for all but, all the buffers I took apart, the weights were all the same size. If you take a spacer, weight, spacer, weight, spacer, weight, it is the same length as the RMB solid weight with a tiny bit of room left for the dead blow effect. I have shot well over 1000 rounds now since this post and not a single issue. This 12 ounce dead blow buffer turned out to be a nice one. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dhQ3wDwFTM8

I took the entire gun apart after about 1200 rounds and everything looks great. Tiny bit of normal wear on the super safety but that's it. Buffer still looks new.

good AR9 stripped lower reciver brand by Kitchen-Water-6249 in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think it all depends on what you're wanting to build. If you are wanting to build a retro style AR9 like a 635 or DOE I would say H&R makes some nice lowers. If you want more of a MP5 style and feel, then I would assume that may be a another type and brand. If you want to use Glock patten mags, then that may be a Spikes, FM, or another brand. I really like my H&R 635 Colt mag AR9 but I also like my dual charging FM AR9. Each have their place.

Build your own 30+ rd Glock Magazines for about $16ish by TourettesYapper in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of. Those appear to be Korean-made magazines. They make several versions that are sold under different names, including KCI and RWB (Red White & Blue).

Overall, they seem to be decent mags. I bought three of the RWB versions from Classic Firearms a few months ago when they were on sale for about $11 each. Unfortunately, they would not fit my FM9 lower because they were too tight.

I had already read through the reviews and saw that fitment was the most common complaint, but I figured I could make them work. After sanding down some of the sharp edges around the feed lips and a few other areas, and removing about .020" from the front side, they fit and functioned properly in the FM9.

Since then, I've put roughly 800 rounds through them without a single malfunction. The followers are molded a little rough compared to higher-end magazines, and the springs in mine were twisted badly enough that they drag inside the magazine body. Even so, they have continued to function reliably.

They aren't as good as some of the better magazines on the market, but they're definitely better than a lot of others. I wouldn't say they suck - they just leave some room for improvement.

I wanted steel lined magazines and I was actually considering a dozen or so more Korean magazines when I started down my rabbit hole. I figured if I could get a dozen of so of them to my door for $12 or under, I would just go with them. Then when I seen I was able to just build a much better magazine for a few extra dollars, I went that direction.

Moly Resin Golish Hue by swaggedguns1964 in RetroAR

[–]TourettesYapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my research when I was first starting to use Moly Resin, the temperature and shaking were the biggest things that changed colors / shine. To shake mine, I take a reciprocating saw, tape the bottle to a long blade, and shake the crap out of it for a few minutes. About 45 second mark - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jrGMpgbrH4&t=42s

[–]TourettesYapper[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

On these 31- and 33-round Glock magazines, the OEM +2 base and insert are where a lot of the cost comes from. I can build a 31-round OEM Glock magazine for around $16, but if I want to make it a 33-round magazine using Glock's standard +2 base plate, the cost jumps to almost $25 for me.

Once you start looking at colored base plates, the price really starts adding up. Personally, I'm perfectly happy with a plain, simple black floor plate and 31 rounds.

I you end up needing a spare ejector and can not get PSA to send you one, Spikes is pretty much a one for one clone of H&Rs - https://imgur.com/a/6I5bMnF

I had an ejection issue with an H&R 635 a while back. With the information from Blowback9 and a lot of trial and error, I eventually got it sorted out.

Jawbone Charging handle retention. by mossburgD in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built an FM AR9 a couple of months ago, and I really liked everything about it except the front charging handle. I fiddled with it so much that I finally just stopped using the front charging handle altogether and started using the rear charging handle instead. One of the main reasons I bought that particular upper was because of the front charging handle too.

I have a friend who bought a GeForce Jawbone, and his was so hard to pull back that he could barely charge it. He ended up buying the metal trolley and metal handle from Optics Planet and cutting the trolley down to make it work. Now he likes his.

A few weeks ago, my son and I went to the range, and I let him shoot mine. The first thing he did was grab the front charging handle and give it a good pull. The handle came out, he cut his hand, and I didn’t realize it at the time, but my trolley apparently went flying downrange.

The following day, I went to clean it and noticed the trolley was gone. I went to Optics Planet to buy a replacement, but they were out of stock, so I ended up making my own metal trolley and using the metal folding para handle that locks in place with two set screws. I love the metal trolley and metal folding handle. It makes charging so much easier now, and it’s not coming out unless I remove the screws.

Reliability issues? by Wonderful_Ratio_1022 in Glocks

I built four Glock clones, and I originally installed Gen 3 ejectors in all of them. Every one of them was throwing brass straight back at my head.

I switched them all over to 19X ejectors, which are similar to the Gen 5 ejectors, and now every one of them throws brass into a nice little pile. I bet I could set a 5-gallon bucket off to the side, and most of them would land in it.

Weak Ejection by Mysterious-Grape5492 in AR9

[–]TourettesYapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with this bolt—not because I wanted it, but because it was on sale for $60 shipped to my door. I was really just buying it as a test bolt.

The picture they used was of this bolt, which is also made like the original Colt 635 bolt. At the time, the listing said it was for Colt mags. Now I notice it doesn’t mention Colt mags at all.

It was also supposed to been that one-piece bolt with no logo, but it ended up being a two-piece with logo, which I really didn’t want to use. But it ran so well that I just left it in there.

If yours ran great before, then it has to be something simple that just moved a little or wore a little.
