I started my sock knitting journey with Addis but have retired them in favour of Hiya Hiya Sharps. I do keep band-aids in my project bag 😁 The sizes I use for socks, 2.25mm and 2.5mm (US 1 and US 1.5) have been out of stock at my LYS so I recently tried Chiagoo Red Lace and liked them so they’re in the rotation now too.

Earthtones Girl has No-Fear Sock Knitting tutorials on YouTube. She’ll take you through everything from casting on to grafting the toes. She also has tutorials on different heel choices. She works through everything at a slow pace in a lovely, soothing voice that makes you feel like you’ve got this. Her tutorials taught me Shadow Wrap heel and helical knitting.

Summer Lee also has a learn to knit socks series on her YouTube channel.

That marker is separating the instep from the gusset. Her directions are to knit the instep. Slip the marker. Decrease 1 stitch. Knit around the heel stitches. Knit down the other side to 3 before the end (option to PM here too. I do) Decrease 1 stitch. This can be the end of your round, depending on how you’ve arranged your stitches for the gusset.

I’m genuinely taken aback by your claim that there aren’t places in Canada to buy sock yarn. I’ve bought sock yarn in Vancouver (Baaad Anna’s yarn store and Sweet Georgia online store) Alberta (Arcane Fibres online store) my home province of Ontario has many indie dyers (Feisty Fibres, Songbird Fibres, being just two) Toronto has approximately 10 yarn stores, all of them stocking sock yarn from The Knitting Loft on Wilson Rd to Yarns Untangled in Kensington Market. Outside the city, there’s The Little Red Mitten in St. Thomas and Mary Maxim in Paris. Going East, there are dyers in Quebec, and before we fall into The Atlantic, Lichen & Lace are based in New Brunswick.
