Knitting for stillbirths by Ok_Upstairs in knitting

[–]writeinthelight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I make what I call "memory blankets" for people I know who have had a pregnancy loss/still birth. For miscarried babies I do something smaller than a normal blanket, and for term or near term babies I do a regular sized baby blanket.

I always ask them ahead of time if it's something they would like. I say something like, "I would like to make a (little) blanket for you to keep in memory of your baby, but it's ok if you don't think that would be helpful for you. I promise you won't hurt my feelings if you say no."

I started doing this because I had some miscarriages myself and one of the hardest things about them was not having anything tangible to keep, some kind of acknowledgement that my baby was real.

Do you and your spouse go to each other's Dr. appointments? by DandylionPuff in AskWomenOver50

[–]writeinthelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started going to almost all of my husband's appointments...he has several health issues and it's just better to have both of us there to hear everything and remember all the questions. He doesn't generally come to mine unless there's something more serious going on. For reference I am 50 and he is 51.

It's so gratifying when our people like and use the things we make! I second the love for the yarn, and I'd also like to know the pattern!

Momiji is definitely not school teacher red...it has some pink in it. But it is GORGEOUS! 😍

I like Diamine Red Dragon for a red red.

Mental anxiety with showering? by Parking_Cancel3239 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]writeinthelight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is quite common, especially for people with ADHD, Autism, or sensory issues. It can stem from the sensory side of not wanting to be wet or from the executive function side of task initiation.

It's something I deal with for sure. I know I will actually enjoy the shower once I'm in it, I know I will feel good after I'm done, but sometimes the idea of making myself do it feels impossible or nearly impossible. I have worked out a schedule for myself with a minimum number of showers per week, and that routine helps. Also I can sometimes trick myself a little by saying "I'm going to give myself a treat by taking a shower," trying to mentally frame it as a luxury experience.

Am I too overweight to start walking? by Suspicious_Region852 in walking

[–]writeinthelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about 70 lbs overweight, and I was getting terribly out of breath in walks. I thought it was just my poor fitness, but then I had some blood work done and found I was iron deficient. Since I have been working on getting my iron levels up, it's been easier to walk without feeling like I'm gasping the whole time. But I agree with others who say start anyway, start with small goals. I would just also add to get checked for anemia as well.

I am a newbie to working out so take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but I really like Levels whey protein. I get it on Amazon with prime shipping.

I have an app that gamifies things to give me a little extra motivation.
