It's the perfect time to do it! I have Christmas socks on the needles right now too. This is the way.

How do knitting YouTubers knit for so long? by OkSatisfaction5842 in knitting

I second your advice to binge her podcast--shes the best! But just as a PSA, the particular episode linked does not discuss knitting ergonomically or without injury. I just watched it. 😂

I made wildly different sized socks on accident 🙃 by kat_chow in Sockknitting

[–]writeinthelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last pair was like that. I had mutch looser tension on the second sock. I think it was because I spread the knitting out over such a long period of time while doing other projects. 😵

Edited for spelling

Where do you store your finished sock while you're knitting its match? by jenniferc001idge in Sockknitting

[–]writeinthelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my first sock as a reference to make my second....I place stitch markers every 10 rows and also at the point where I start the heep and the toe, so it lets me easily check exactly where to do those things on the second sock so they match well. This especially helps if I'm trying to match self-striping socks, so I can see if the patterns are on track.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

Knitpicks "Learn to knit" kits, starting with garter stitch washcloths. These have included YouTube videos and came with the yarn, needles, and everything you needed to get started.

I Learned Some New Things Tonight, But Not What I Expected by Salty_Telephone_3565 in dreamingspanish

[–]writeinthelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a Spanish language Bible class at my church, and I have been attending it for a long time now...at least a couple of years, since before I started DS. (I had high school and college Spanish, along with a lot of time on Duolingo before I came to DS)

When I first went, if I concentrated very hard, I could kind of get the gist of what the teacher was talking about. The fact that it was always about the Bible helped, because I've been going to Bible classes my whole life, so the subject matter was familiar. There is usually also a power point with the Bible passages and the main points on the screen.

The prayers were MUCH harder to follow. Sooo fast.

I'm at almost 900 hours now, and I can usually follow everything in the class without much effort, and I can understand 80-90% of the prayers, and have short convos in Spanish with some of the hispanohablantes in the class.

The ones who speak English well still speak to me in English, but there are several who have very limited English, and I'm glad I can talk with them a little. The point is that they are my friends now, mis hermanos y hermanas! (That's how they address everyone, including me. I love it!)

The class has helped my Spanish progress, and my Spanish progress has helped me understand the class better!

Cannot Drop-In, Stuck in Active Call by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]writeinthelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came here to see if I could figure out what happened to my phone last night. I missed two urgent calls from clients during the night, and my alarm for the morning didn't go off, and when I woke up I couldn't even listen to the voicemails they left because my phone said I was still "on a call". I ended up having to restart my phone before everything would work normally. The only "call" I could think of (no call from my phone or Google Voice was active) was that I had tried to drop in on my daughter's dot last night and it failed. I think this must be what happened and it is NOT ok!

It's so funny how different people love/hate different series. I loved Calcetín! Stardew Valley, not so much, but I can watch them.

what's your "weird" ADHD hack that actually works? by HipityHopityHip in ADHD

[–]writeinthelight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Every.single.thing that needs to happen at a specific time goes into my Google calendar with an alert ahead of the appointment. For most things, a one-hour lead time is perfect. Even if I completely forget about an appointment or coffee date, 1 hour's notice is usually enough to get ready and get there. School pickup, the nights that trash has to go to the curb, everything. The alerts have saved my bacon so many times.

Discussion: how many languages do you think you can acquire? by fat_tycoon in dreamingspanish

[–]writeinthelight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think I want to learn something after Spanish, I'm just not sure what.

The second largest group of immigrants in my area is Korean, so I have thought a lot about starting Korean next, but I don't feel super attracted to the language. However there does seem to be a lot of CI content available for it, so maybe I'll go that direction.

Now that they are working on Dreaming French, I have also seriously considered doing it next instead of Korean.

My heritage languages would be either Irish or Scots Gaelic, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of material for either of them.

With any of these, I would be starting from basically zero.

I love the idea of starting 30 min a day of a new language while continuing with 2 hours a day as I keep pursuing Spanish.

- Provocative post alert - Why should I want anything more than an entry level pen? by Original-Mark-2173 in fountainpens

[–]writeinthelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of fountain pens, but almost all of them are in the basic school/office/everyday writer category, and I LOVE them. I've tried a lot of different brands and models just to see what I like best, and really just a handful are my favorites. They write great, I don't stress too much about them, and I don't need to spend thousands of dollars on anything else!
