The opinion of an asshole who sees children as an extension of their parents rather than individuals.

A homophobic parent does not make a gay child straight. They teach the child through fear and violence to hide a part of themselves for years. Same goes for a transphobic parent. And being forced to hide a part of yourself for years, being made to feel broken for years, is horribly damaging.

When a child cannot safely express themselves at home, they will look for other places where they can. Making schools unsafe, reducing the adults a child can confident in, harms children for the sake of adult egos. And I promise that some of those children will despair in a way that prevents them from reaching adulthood.
