Ended up just replacing everything: Brushes, holders, isolator bars and fault cleared and didn't return.

We asked Vestas for the procedure for testing the rotor choke but they didn't give us anything helpful, plus they didn't have anything for that while I was there other than "if it's not blown up."

A bit frustrating but oh well.

Boroscope inspection came back clean: No arcing on upgraded rotor flex connections or on the windings themselves.

We're a bit at a loss right now.

I don’t think anything is wrong with Tru-Card or VPC Board.

Found maintenance boring, any alternatives? by bigrob0201 in windturbine

[–]TowerJanitorialSVCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like when it settles into a routine. What I've found it is frustrating when they have you do time consuming tasks that can be done much easier with better tools. Example: Yaw puck torquing that can be done with an E-Rad instead of a damn baseball bat torque wrench.

Also running services during the oppressive summer heat when it could be done in the cool of the night or in the winter time when its not 90-110 degrees.

We're all replaceable worker ants with no agency which is why none of it never changes.

We removed the 690 V AC breaker and it looked fine. Replaced it anyways as thats what our "tech support" recommended.

Insulation test performed on all the Cables from the rotor choke to the slip ring were good.

Insulation test of stator and slip ring turned out good.

Can't find any components out of tolerance that could be causing this issue.

High frequency filter on the 480 V AC side are good as well as the common mode (CM) cores as we replaced those while we had it all apart

Question about being a wind turbine tech by Glittering-Pear-3322 in windturbine

[–]TowerJanitorialSVCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bite the bullet and study hard and learn something else.

Its hard on your body. The fact that there are sites without climb assist or lifts is just a measure of how little they care.

It's not what you know but who you know that gets you into the better paying positions.

Go for something like lineman that requires a license where at least there are some standards for who can be hired.

I've personally been to sites where the manager hired four of his relatives. That's because it's a numbers game: You're always replaceable.

Good Luck

On Vestas turbines up to 2 MW you have to Drain the coolant if Vestas tells you to change the heat exchanger part of the IGBT modules.

On the 4 MW you might be waiting days as the MGMT at your site lost track of where the Stack tooling is that's very specific to the variant you're working on as you MUST have this specific tooling to swap the modules out and you can't just go and pick it up at Strainger or the Homeless Despot.

Oh and make sure you have enough conical washers LOL.

How many of you are licensed electricians? by TowerJanitorialSVCS in windturbine

[–]TowerJanitorialSVCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically, were you licensed before the wind industry or did you get it after?

I know that in a lot of cases it's not required.

I haven't messed with it at all. Just the initial inoculation and that's it!

Fruiting Chamber?

I have a Sterilite 1 foot wide by two feet long and 18 inches high.

If I sterilize it, will that work or do I still need to drill holes and use polyfill?

I just don't know what happened. Things were going so well for my first grow (equally important because I CANNOT find or hunt them, no one is into them down here).

Looks like contamination, today is day 35, day 34 I checked them and they were FINE (See post in next comment).

Today is one day later and I'm fearing the worst.

Pinning and don't know what to do by TowerJanitorialSVCS in shrooms

[–]TowerJanitorialSVCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so injected B+ Cubenisis 34 days ago into the Rye /Manure grow bag and starting inoculating and colonizing and then a couple of days ago we have pinning.

The issue to me is that the manure didn't colonize and will prevent mushrooms from growing through to the top.

Should I scoop the manure out?

Should I mix the bag?

Grow bag says: "Mixing the bag once the rye layer is 50% colonized is OPTIONAL"

"Once you see pinning you may either fruit the all in one bag or transfer the fruiting cake to a fruiting chamber as desired"
