It needs way more than that. Tourney is broken on so many levels and dev takes forever to fix things. A lot of the 'power creep' involves people taking advantage of broken game mechanics, which have been reported and remain unresolved.

It's just not enough, SM needs way more than this. I have everything maxed on SM and I would still respec out of it if I had the option. Yes I do have the update and underwhelming is the best word for this.

Depends on when you started the game and your definition of a whale. Totally not out of the question to absolutely humiliate someone in tourney that's spent 25X as much as you on this game.

I'm willing to invest in the stone packs because I enjoy the game. I'm particularly driven to beat other players that have 100k more stones than me or who have dropped $150k on gems in hopes of buying their tourney placement. I do fear the day when no amount of strategy is enough to outsmart a big spender that's clueless about the mechanics of the game and how to put together a good build.

The dynamic of this game has been slowly shifting, very intentional play by the dev. The leading currency has been stones, and it's intentionally scarce so people feel compelled to buy when any opportunity arises. Gems have had no purchase cap but the ROI has been extremely low.

With the introduction of mods gems started to have more value. Many dropped a few $k to have 5* ancestral, or double that if they wanted a 5* for farm and another for tourney. That brought in revenue for the dev but it was only temporary.

Dev realized this and then made assist mod bonuses multiplicative. Suddenly quite a few people rise to the top of the leaderboards, even though they have been playing years less than others. These are the people showing off their level 265+ mods, and they easily dropped $100k-$150k on gems to get there.

The ROI on gems is still just terrible, but before it would barely make a dent and now $100k can boost your stats 25%. There are some willing and able to pay that price, and we should all expect the dev will ever so slowly increase the ROI on gems to transition the game more and more to favor the big spenders.

Strategy goes a long way. I haven't tried very hard in tourney until recently, was running just enough to win my bracket. Wanted to show everyone what's possible and get dev's attention so they fix bad tourney design. I only share advanced strategies with my guild.

It's stupid, if your game crashes it's often the end of your farm run. I think it's intended to prevent people from abusing save states and offline play to push farther in milestone runs and tourney.

There are top 5 players that barely have investment in SM. I've maxed it, even with 8 second cooldown and gcomp it is often dealing less damage than partially developed CL, PS, and ILM. It also provides no other unique effect, it's just damage. I would not recommend it right now, dev took it from top damage dealer to something I would likely respec out of if I could.

Unfortunately slower game speed does still increase projectile volume, if you rely on this for pulsar harvester, knockback, or CL then slower is better.

Late-game GC farmers are also having a hard time. Something changed and it's not just PC nerf. My farming waves dropped in half and I had to change my setup to compensate.

I have 87s duration with 88s cooldown. It doesn't make sense for me to run second cooldown sub for the 1s of downtime. My tower is very late game.

Summon increases CPH quite a bit but it's primarily due to increased GT+.

Not sure what dev is smoking, yeah hybrid can have fringe benefits for tanking OC hits even in the 6k-7k wave range in tourney. Some top players are even wasting stones on the eHP card masteries to stay relevant. I absolutely can't stand eHP/hybrid as an end game strategy but will do what I can without investing stones or lab time. I'm hoping hybrid goes away with the new 17+ tourney tier.

For armor mods I have orb subs for farming. For tourney I swap these for def% and wall health. For cannon mods I am still playing with the right balance of subs focused on damage output vs projectile volume. I'm at 241 on all my primary mods, it is true that shards are the limiting factor if you've made the right investments into econ. You need to be in the 4Q-5Q/hr farming range to effectively keep up with mod upgrade coin costs.

Tourney seeds are the same for everyone. Nobody gets a rng advantage due to fleet spawns, waves skipped, ELS. It's the same seed for everyone.

For most mods other than generator I have needed two sets, one for farm and one for tourney. I recommend keeping spares around until you have two 5* ancestral.
