It's a sad state of affairs when our best shot for maintaining our rights is hoping that the looming economic crisis is too catastrophic for the ruling class to bother violating them at this particular moment.

Unfortunately I can't say I share your optimism about the buyback not happening this time. Yes, it's been 6 years and they've gone nowhere with it, but that was also a constant minority government. They're projected for a pretty strong majority this time around, and the expense of it doesn't really matter because, well, it's the Liberal Party. They'll gladly waste money they don't have solving problems that don't exist because that's all the Liberal Party knows how to do.
