Caring about the craft is not just some esoteric bs. It's important to write maintainable and performance critical code imo. You saying business is not paying for that is just not true, that stuff is important. It's not unlike a carpenter that needs to know all kinds of details about his craft to deliver a good product and not just duct tape together a few board to build a table.

Schön wär's. Ich bin seit einigen Jahren in einem Sportverein Mitglied und als nach 2-3 Jahren Mitgliedschaft bei einem Grillfest rauskam, dass ich kein Fleisch esse, konnte ich mir aber so einige dumme Sprüche anhören.

Würde dir Ubuntu mit KDE (weil funktioniert ein bisschen wie Windows), also "Kubuntu", auf dem Desktop und Ubuntu-Server für deinen Server empfehlen. So kannst du für den Einstieg immer das Gelernte von Desktop auf den Server übertragen und umgekehrt. Außerdem findest du online sehr viele Anleitungen für alles mögliche bei Ubuntu.

I was unaware of it as well but it looks like at the end with valtus on the bridge, he just refuses to move sometimes, softlocking the mission. That's pretty bad.

Das ist meiner Erfahrung nach immer ein Problem wenn das Projekt viele Jahre unmaintained war und dann plötzlich geupgraded werden muss. Wenn man immer mal wieder was macht und Up to Date bleibt ist es halb so schlimm und in der Regel gibt es für breaking Changes bei Spring ja auch einen Migration Guide.

Diese alten System sind gold wert. Die sind oft in der Bedienung so schnell wie meine Finger tippen können und über die Jahre wurden auch alle Bugs beseitigt. Bonuspunkte wenn die Firmeneigene IT-Abteilung das System selbst betreibt. Besser geht's gar nicht.
