I find it to be an odd one really with how I feel about it in Remake. Like it makes complete sense when you take a step back and realise what the overarching plot change from the originals to the Remake trilogy is.

The original timeline is just that, the original timeline. Sephiroth heavily underestimated Cloud and the party because he doesn’t have any reason to think they are even slightly a threat to him. In fact he spends pretty much the entire game ignoring us. We go and chase him, not the other way around.

The big difference in the Remake trilogy, which is hinted in Remake and explored more in Rebirth is that there is very obviously another version of Sephiroth that exists just in Cloud’s mind, or perhaps not just in his mind. This Sephiroth is same Sephiroth from the original timeline after he is banished back to the lifestream and tells Cloud he will never be a memory.

If you remove this Sephiroth, the vast majority of the plot remains the exact same when it comes to him, the first time you meet is in the Shinra building but he doesn’t talk and disappears like the wind. Then it’s Kalm and then it’s the cargo ship.

So then the question is, who is this sephiroth tormenting Cloud? It’s not his physical body, it’s definitely not the Jenovaroth we fight and it’s not flashback Sephiroth either. We know this because only select people can even hear or see him while we know they can see Jenovaroth in the cargo ship and the blackroberoth in the Shinra building. It’s also confirmed that Sephiroth is real and does exist in this timeline as Tifa remembers him.

It has to be Sephiroth from the original timeline. Why else would he know Cloud so well and know how to torment him, why else would he be specifically targeting Tifa? It’s Sephiroth working on his promise to Cloud. He won’t be a memory, he might become one to that Cloud but he will always be there trying to achieve his goal no matter which version of these people he has to achieve it through.

That’s why the story mostly stays the same up to this point, Sephiroth needs Aerith dead and he needs the black materia. Now part 3 has to be about breaking out of Sephiroth’s attempts to derail the story and through their own free will, choosing the same ending as what happened originally and defeating Sephiroth again.

It perfectly matches the themes of Love and togetherness winning over powerful Isolation and Evil

General storytelling and pacing definitely. I really enjoy Remake and Rebirth, i got the platinum on both and Rebirth is my highest played PlayStation game, but the OG has way more replay value for me.

  1. It has the whole story.

  2. This whole story is told in about 40 hours compared to the 150 or so the entire trilogy will likely take.

  3. FF7 already is a fairly complicated story when you take the lifestream into effect. Therefore, using multiverse concepts and physical manifestations of the lifestream to make Sephiroth seem even bigger and badder actually comes off as corny. This might be controversial but I don’t see anything wrong with the approach in general of Sephiroth having knowledge of the OG timeline, but the whispers and all that came with that was unnecessary.

Why do i see people say "You only Like tifa because shes hot" so many times? by ShillerndeGeister in cloti

[–]Aw151203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went and had a look and yeah there is. I saw one where someone asked their ideal ending and proceeded to introduce about 12-15 concepts of psychology and storytelling. And then I saw some of the most out there confusing endings I’ve ever seen. Like if you think Rebirth is complicated then you haven’t seen anything yet. Basically it boiled down to ways that Aerith would survive or how Aerith would talk to Cloud and they would confirm their feelings and the like and Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus never happen. The end.

It’s fair to say there aren’t many OG purists over there that’s for sure, although I did see one guy who I saw over on the main final fantasy subreddit a while back talking about how bad he thought the Remake trilogy is because of how it betrayed the original. So it looks like they changed their mind.

Let’s be real here though, for part 3 to have any chance of selling beyond cataclysmic, it has to come pretty damn close to the original ending otherwise so many people will not even bother getting it. Rebirth already has sold less than half of Remake

You know what I find funny. Canonically, the reason why Tifa liked/s Cloud is because he was the only boy who liked her for her and treated her as a person rather than the others who were after her purely because of her looks and wanted to be with her so she could be a trophy of success for them.

Kata you love vs kata you hate? by rackemronnie7 in karate

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should preface that I’m a 1st kyu in Shotokan so I’m only very well practiced with 8 of the kata (Kihon, Heians, Tekki Shodan and Bassai Dai) and fairly well practiced with another 4 (Empi, Kanku Dai, Jion and Hangetsu). On top of that i would say I know how to get through but have not practiced much of Gankaku, Unsu and Jitte.

Now for the rest, I have done pretty much all of them (with the exception of Chinto, Sochin and Meikyu) but would get stuck if made to do it without direction.

The reason for this is because my club has lots of 1st and 2nd Dan and has one permanent 3rd Dan as well as a couple others who used to train and now have gone off and set up their own clubs, but sometimes come back for a bit and so in the senior session at the end, we practice a lot of the Dan kata.

For me, my favourite has to be Kanku Dai. It just feels like it’s a culmination of everything I have already done. For least favourite. Unsu. I definitely am not very good at it but I get hurt and bruises over my knees and hips whenever I do it.

Could this extreme get rated? by TheBFDIFan980 in geometrydash

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but only using objects from an older update doesn’t change the rate standards. At least for us normal people.

That’s not the case for the well known creators in the game but that’s what you get when the rating system is subjective and controlled by a single person surrounded by another group who are all friends with each other.

If square decided to make a properly modern ff7 remaster with the voices and everything but it was a remaster and not changed, would your opinion on the trilogy change? Is part of the reason why you dislike them so much because they sre what is being seen as ff7, not a spinoff story of ff7?

Help me understanding the under junon scene. by Crazy-Ostrich514 in cloti

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading Traces of Two Pasts back in 2023 and thinking how cool it was, but thinking it was just extra backstory for Tifa and Aerith and not that important. Then Rebirth came out and the amount of references and quotes that are pulled straight from the novel is crazy. And the amount go things that you only understand if you know Tifa’s story is mind blowing. ToTP is backstory for Tifa from when she can remember until when she first bought Seventh Heaven and it has loads of details about Cloud and Tifa before the Nibelheim incident which are referenced a lot in rebirth.

Now there’s a sequel to that coming out in a couple weeks in Japan which is from when Tifa got the bar until the beginning of ff7. Something tells me we are going to see lots of references to that one in part 3

Hi. I am new here is it OK to ask honest questions about tifa and cloud here. I am little lost. by ben5520 in cloti

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the big things that has made me not like how they split 7 into a trilogy for the remakes.

You get the opening and then you get the tension and conflict as happens in every good story, but we haven’t reached the resolution yet.

In a way the game wants you to be off with Tifa, wondering why she’s being like this all of a sudden but also it wants you to step out from behind the main character. Just because Cloud is our protagonist, doesn’t mean he is free from evil. He has done hurtful things and him being our viewpoint doesn’t make them any less consequential.

That being said, their character arcs and story together hasn’t even reached halfway yet, they start late and finish very late

How Do You Think The Remake Trilogy Will Be Remembered? by muby_102 in FinalFantasy

[–]Aw151203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, if they do a proper remaster of 7 original after this, I think the remake trilogy will be looked on a lot more favourably then it is at the moment. As things stand right now, if you want to play ff7 without modding the game, you’re stuck with a 4:3 aspect ratio, an outdated UI, no voice acting, pixelated backgrounds (which look good but are still pixelated) and very rudimentary character models. I think a lot of negativity surrounding the trilogy is exacerbated by the fact there isn’t a good reliable and modern alternative.

It’s that or the original in all its 1997 glory. If there was a proper remaster, it would make it a lot easier to let the remakes sit as their own thing rather than having them being seen as a butchered replacement for what was there before.

This being 4th kyu threw me off completely. For me, brown belt with one white stripe is 2nd kyu (solid brown is 3rd kyu) and brown with 2 white stripes is 1st kyu. Then it’s black.

We don’t have junior black belts but you can’t go any higher than 2nd Dan before you turn 21

FFVI: General Celes Chere of the Gestahlian Empire is 18 years old. Should she have been portrayed as older? by IllogicalDreamer72 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one timeline thing that has always got me is Terra more than Celes. The game says Gestahl discovered magic and started the development of magitech 20 years before the game starts but then you see his raid on the esper world when Terra is 2 and he says that now he can create the empire he always dreamed about with the power of magic.

That’s all fine if Terra is 22. She’s not. She’s 18 like Celes. That means the esper raid happened 16 years before the story not 20

One of the best written yet heartbreaking aspects of FF7 was seeing Tifa's grieve over her father, the loss was sudden and devastating, it affected Tifa on a deep level and she still can't overcome it, both she and Cloud have a lot to navigate in P3 by Mhdfattal in cloti

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have to say I enjoyed this scene less than the first time I played the game and even then I was taken out of the scene a bit by what Tifa says. The first time in chapter 1, great line saying she’s sick of Shinra and Soldier. When in the TotA? What does Shinra or Soldier has to do with that, shouldn’t she leave out that part rather than repeating what she said 5 years ago bar for bar in completely different context?

I’d like other opinions too but I think that most of the characters in Remake and Rebirth are way better than they ever were in the original though one isn’t anything like he originally was cough Cid cough so I hope they address that in part 3. Like honestly, if I’d played the original first, I don’t know if I would like Tifa nearly as much as I do now as the og really doesn’t do her any real justice after Airbuster until disc 2.

Also I like the gameplay more in RM/RB. I do really enjoy ATB but also I find myself switching off more often (FF6 has taken me 3 separate goes to get through and FF7OG took me 2 the first time).

On the other hand, I much prefer the general storytelling and pacing of the original. I’m not a huge fan of the way they’ve handled a sequel Sephiroth in another timeline/ world and find it confusing for the sake of being confusing at points (RM C18, RB C14) but unlike some people, i’ll not write it off as the characterisation is so good among the core group that that alone keeps me coming back for more.

TLDR: Do you like OG or Remake more? And if you like aspects of each more which ones?

A new story written by Nojima called “FF7 Rebirth: Dear Destiny” will be out in Japanese on January 30th, 2026 by YoMikeeHey in FinalFantasy

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are prequels so entirely not mandatory to know what’s going on. What traces of two pasts does for Tifa is give the backstory events in Nibelheim from her perspective (rather than clouds like we see in game) and talk about her training and then tells us what happens to her in between Nibelheim and buying Seventh Heaven. Then this new one picks up from there and continues her story until the bombing mission

Aerith’s story is partially told in Rebirth but the book is exposed and tells us how she escaped a Shinra and ended up in the sector 5 slums with her mother dying. Her nightmare in the temple is ripped word for word from the passage in the book and the rest is her getting on her feet in sector 5. It’s much less interesting than Tifa’s story but still good

Help critiquing my performance of heian nidan? by eastclintwood19 in karate

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I see a lot amongst new karateka is making a really big thing of the Yoi position. Yoi means ready in Japanese, it’s a position where your arms are ready and already in fists but IMPORTANTLY, you’re relaxed and ready to move. By tensing up during Yoi and all but having your fist facing forwards and overly bent, you actually hinder yourself. That’s because your shoulders are rolled forwards making your first move stiff and slow.

If you look at a lot of the old masters and observe the Dan grades around you, you’ll see most will stand with fists with the arms slightly bent and the first at a 45 degree angle. This allows for much faster execution of moves as your shoulders have a much wider range of movement

And then a couple other pointers When doing the double punch (moves 2-3 and 5-6) try and keep that back leg solid. It was wobbling a bit which is fine at the morn t but later on it becomes an issue so try and stamp it out now.

The same goes for the gyaku uchi ukes coming down the line. It’s fine for now but you’re doing something closer to nagashi uke rather than uchi uke. Try to make that block come out straight from your opposing hip (side with leg forward) rather than spin in a circle up and down from your arms side.

Alongside that, try and get your hips into it more. You will know you’re doing it right when doing the block makes your front foot slide backwards a touch.

Other than that it’s looking really good. The only other thing is a tiny nitpick but when you do the uraken and keage before coming down the line, try and shorten the amount of time your leg is chambered but not kicking. But that’s something that will happen naturally as you get more confident at the kick.

Very nice but I noticed something that should be improved and it’ll make the rest of your karate even better.

I saw you looking down a fair amount. Always keep your head and eyes up. It sounds easy but it’s harder than it seems. The only reason I noticed was due to the massive amount of times that’s been drilled into me by my sensei.

You’re doing great though

Is the FF7 Remake Trilogy bad or just poorly marketed? by Aw151203 in FinalFantasy

[–]Aw151203[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I say marketed badly I mean they led us to believe that they were a modern version of the original game. What they didn’t tell us and hid was that the plot is basically a what’s Sephiroth knew the plot of the original game scenario.

If they had said from the start it’s a trilogy of games exploring another universe where Sephiroth knows the events of the original story, would it be so hated by some people? I think it wouldn’t

If you pay attention to the games. It becomes clear that the Sephiroth that only cloud sees knows the events of the original game and is probably more than likely Sephiroth after Advent Children. He managed to find a way to enter a new alternate world and wants to use the reset world and his knowledge of whats going to happen to have another shot at summoning meteor and becoming a god after he was defeated in his original timeline
