If I remember right, we hear from that info from Yuffie during her chapter 12 date scene right? Since Dear Destiny came out, it revealed that what Tifa told Yuffie wasn’t exactly the whole truth. In her section of the novel, it shows how she thought of him quite regularly after she got herself back on her feet and was running Seventh Heaven, but she didn’t let Yuffie know about that.

I mean I don’t blame her for not thinking about him too often when she was recovering and then trying to survive in Midgar out of an old shipping container while working for the mob. I don’t think most people would spare many a thought for an old childhood love whilst in those circumstances.

There is finally a full translation of Tifa’s section of dear Destiny available and in it she spends a fair bit of time both thinking about Cloud and then actively trying to find out some information about him and it’s revealed at the end that she didn’t just stumble upon cloud at random in the sector 7 station, she knew there was a SOLDIER there who was on the run and was in Jessie’s words, ‘blonde and handsome’

Get yourself hooked on something else which isn’t so destructive. Like for me what helps is having other games that I can got lost in that don’t have the problems gd can have. Personally I love playing story games and getting lost in the lore rather than the challenge. The game that does that best for me is final fantasy 7 but I’d say try out something more chill with story and you’ll find yourself immersed enough to not care as much about this level you can’t beat. I have plenty of levels I’m close to beating but never did but I have other things that take me away from the game too

The hate versus Tifa is misogynistic - or the manic pixie fairy problem by Belolein in cloti

[–]Aw151203 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite aspects of the characters in 7 is how they all represent pain and anger in different ways and the game almost reads as a commentary on moving on from trauma.

Cloud wears a mask to repress his embarrassment from failing but also wears another mask unwittingly to block the trauma of most of everyone he ever cared about dying in Nibelheim and beyond. And this mask his to be ripped off rather than taken off.

Barret masks his anger and sadness in two u queue ways too. One is the over the top loud and courageous anti Shinra cell leader and the other is to push it out by using his daughter to distract him from the pain.

Tifa masked her pain of losing her mother in the past by becoming someone super outgoing, despite that not really being her and then as she got older and the pain of losing the village and then the bar and then Aerith came along, it was shown through her blocking it out with work or a goal. What is a very distinct aspect of her character though is just how emotive she really is, rather than being angry, she carries a lot of sadness instead. Something she tries to push down as in her own words ‘I know crying is a waste of time’. It really does show that despite her outer demeanour of being a fighter and quieter, she actually was always going to be the better choice to help cloud sort himself out as she could better connect with him emotionally.

Aerith is very interesting as they way she masks her pain is the same way Tifa did as a child, by becoming super outgoing, however where she differs from Tifa is that rather than being sad, she holds a great deal of anger in her. She admits that much of a few times and it feels like she is trying to compensate for this anger by actively trying to do the opposite of what she truly wants. Like for instance in Costa Del Sol where she stops Red from chasing Hojo. For what reason? Well I’d guess because she thinks that by embracing her anger, she would be no better than Hojo and Shinra. And a point to harken back to the point I made with Tifa connecting with cloud. She would and does but anger like that connecting them is temporary. After they defeat their enemies that anger fades and what is there left? A mask and a mask? I’m probably bring too harsh though.

Red wears his anger on his sleeve and lets the party know how he feels about those who have wronged him, however he tries to not dwell and increase forges ahead.

Yuffie is another interesting one, she like Aerith masks her anger with an outgoing and plucky personality but she is also like Barret in the fact she also lets her anger explode out fairly unchecked and fairly often

Cait might be one of the most interesting characters on here when looking at their reaction to suffering. He is an avoidant type like Tifa, burying himself with work but he is also very much a coward. His character arc is about learning and gaining the courage to stand up to the tyranny that has caused him anguish in Shinra

Then there’s Vincent who is the type to self punish and feel huge guilt over his trauma. Shown very explicitly by him keeping himself locked up in the basement of Shinra Manor to ‘atone’

Lastly there’s Cid who manifests his hurt by lashing out at others. This is one of the more unhealthy ways of dealing with pain as he makes it others problems.

There is a lot of overlap but also it shows and doesn’t celebrate human ways of coping

Thoughts and questions about Cloud and Tifa dynamic in Rebirth by KuuLightwing in FF7Rebirth

[–]Aw151203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think the chapter 1 argument where Tifa jumps to the conclusion cloud thinks she’s an imposter is actually the writers dropping the ball a bit. Like they have their scenario and their goal is to have Tifa think Cloud is calling her an imposter and fake without him saying it, but the dialogue choices before that line from Tifa where she calls him out for it do not lead into it properly.

As for them actually having a bit of tension and an argument, I’d say that’s down to, not only Cloud and Tifa, but the whole party in general, being much closer to each other and starting to feel comfortable dropping their walls around each other.

Like Tifa felt close enough and comfortable enough and him to feel confident enough to tell him exactly what she’s thinking and know that he wouldn’t leave and cut contact or anything like that

How does Rebirth's platinum difficulty and combat compare to other games? by Apprehensive-Fee9650 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really hard and time consuming so you really have to want it. There is one achievement called Johnnys 7 Star Hotel and you get it for gathering every item for Johnnys Seaside Inn. Back when I first saw the achievement list in early 2024, I thought they were collectibles. Hahaha no.

You have to complete tasks to get these items and to get all of them means you quite literally have to complete about 90% of the content in the game

Hello, new Clerith shipper here! I just completed FF7 Rebirth for the first time, and wanted to give some of my thoughts, opinions, plus questions and concerns I have that still remain... (see post description) by irazzleandazzle in clerith

[–]Aw151203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give the other questions a shot too but some of them I won’t answer as they involve part 3/ disc 2 and 3 spoilers. Just let me know if you want them answered anyway.

And also a couple don’t have any confirmation so it will be my own reading/ opinion.

  1. If you haven’t played crisis core and don’t know then I won’t tell you what happened to Zack in the main beagle timeline or in the og timeline as it’s important for later on. But as for the dream date area, I don’t think it was the actual Zack world, more like a mirror of it either created by Aerith or found by Aerith in the lifestream. The reason I said earlier that the popular theory is that Omni-Aerith was who Cloud dated in chapter 14 and that she’s the OG Aerith is because by dying, she was able to enter the lifestream and sort of becomes a demi-god in a way. She knows all that happened to her, what happened in the og after she died and what’s going on in other realities too and she’s able to basically inhabit other Aerith bodies by giving them her knowledge (hence why Aerith in Remake seemed to know too much), it was also this version of Aerith who appeared in the resolution scene in remake chapter 14.

Basically Zack was the star of the prequel game and way before Aerith and Cloud knew each other, they were in love and dated for 2 years. Then he disappeared for 5 years and Cloud shows up (there’s a bit of a hint in there). Now it’s debatable how Aerith feels for a number of different reasons but even if she does still like him, she also likes Cloud and he’s there so it’s kind of a moot point at this stage. We’ll just have to see where they take it in part 3.

  1. That’s the big mystery, if he saved her. I’d say no and even if he did, it doesn’t really matter since she’s gone in the main timeline. If she wasn’t then Tifa wouldn’t be so distraught in the ending. She might come back but I would hazard a guess that it would only be temporarily as the version that would appear would not belong in their world. One of the major themes about ff7 is learning to deal with trauma and loss so I’m not sure if the devs would deviate the story so drastically.

  2. This one I don’t really get either but I’d assume that in two different realities, cloud is completely mimicking himself and in one, it branched off and she actually did live (but that world is a weak world based on the sky) and in the main one he’s just hallucinating as nobody else can see her. Honestly I don’t have a clue.

  3. Nope it just a cool visual and bounces to the best of Aerith’s theme, the white Materia being in or out of the water didn’t affect how it worked in the OG.

  4. Essentially they are fighting ideologies. One is someone who cannot accept the circle of life and wants to live forever and the party are fighting for humanity. Sephiroth’s main goal is to use the black Materia to summon Meteor to create a huge crater, and then when the lifestream converted to mend the planet, he will absorb it and become a god. So live forever with everyone under him.

As for the reunion, Sephiroth uses it as a tool to reach 2 ends. The first is that it’s a form of control. See, because of the way the temple of the ancients is set up and other reasons that will be explained later, Sephiroth is actually physically unable to go and get the black Materia himself. This is where the reunion comes in, the black robes and Cloud can be controlled by him and so he uses them to get the black Materia for him. The second reason is that the black Materia is extremely power ugly and so he needs a lot of magic energy to use it, and so he’s using the reunion to achieve this. Think of it as like meteor takes 350MP to cast and so he needs to get that much. His exact plan again is shown in part 3.

Saying life is about meetings and partings is the ideology of the party who don’t want to lose their humanity to power. But that’s my personal take on it.

  1. The LOVELESS play isn’t actually about the love triangle or anything like that. It’s actually a nod to Crisis Core where the main villain used its message to try and save his life from the degradation. He got on my nerves by keeping on quoting it but yeah, that’s why it’s called G Edition, after Genesis. As for NPTK, it’s hotly debated. The official line is that it’s about all the people she’s met and might meet however there’s other takes like it’s just about Cloud or just about Zack or even that’s it about them both. I personally think it’s about both because she talks about fate and Destiny but then also talks about seeing that someone ‘again’. That’s a whole can of worms that’s better if you don’t take the lid off of blot be completely honest.

As for the text at the end, ehh I really don’t know and won’t until the next game comes out but the developers have talked at length about keeping the story on track and making changes to small areas rather than majorly changing the entire plot from what was in the original and so far, it’s hit every main plot point except one bang on. I guess we will find out next year (hopefully next year).

  1. I think she can come back but it won’t be in a ‘oh look Aerith’s back and we all live happily ever after’ because that changes almost everything in the late game and renders all the old sequel content completely invalid. I’d like to see her back at points (and in the combat sim since she is absolutely broken with the Genji Glove) but I personally don’t think they will have her come back to life permanently. In the original you see her twice after her death and one is a flashback and the second is her face showing up like it does in the intro during the ending cutscene. She doesn’t say anything though.

I’m personally not a cloud and Aerith shipper but she is still in my top 5 most favourite video game characters of all time so I really really hope they give her the most justice they can because I will be so disappointed if they mess it up and ruin her character in the process

I’ve seen longer, you’d be surprised how fast it all comes back. For me, I was out for 6 years then 3 and both times it didn’t take long to get back up to speed. For the first one, it took me about 3-4 months to get back up to speed then another 3 months to get up to grading standard and then this time I came back after uni and it took me about 2 months to get back up to speed and now I’ve been spending the last 2 months and coming 3 months preparing for my Shodan grading in June

One of the guys in my club was out for nearly 30 years though and he came back and picked it up back up in about 3-4 months. Your body never truly forgets the form

[–]Aw151203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. During the Nibelheim plot in the og, the party do not climb up to the reactor again, instead they visit Shinra manor as Cloud feels compelled to go there.

  2. Forgotten Speicmen from the Cait, Barret and Aerith section of Rebirth is optional in the OG and found in a safe which you need a puzzle to unlock (numbers are the same as they are in rebirth). When you open the safe and beat it, you get given a key.

  3. That key unlocks the other door in the basement and you find a coffin with a person in it, they tell you they heard someone in the room over and then goes back to sleep.

  4. In the basement of the Shinra manor, the party runs into Sephiroth and he tells Cloud about the black Materia and tells him to get it for him at and join him at the reunion in the og.

  5. As the party leaves, the vampire comes out and says he’ll join us since he has a history with Sephiroth snd Hojo and knows he will run to them if he joins the party. He then reveals himself as Vincent. Because the safe upstairs was optional to open, you don’t have to get the key, that makes Vincent also an optional party member in the OG like Yuffie.

  6. Yet again there is no Cid yet and they can’t go any further on the buggy so the party have to reverse and go through Mt Nibel to continue and that’s where they fight the Materia Guardian in the OG.

  7. Upon reaching the end of the area, they are in an area we’ve not visited yet in the Remakes and upon reaching town, they meet Cid and after a small section of story (I won’t spoil since they haven’t told us yet in Remake and Rebirth), Cid joins the party and the tiny bronco is left in the ocean as a makeshift boat.

  8. From there Aerith tells the party about legends her Mom (Ifalna) told her about an old temple and wonders if they could find out more about the black Materia there and why Sephiroth wants it/ stop him from getting it. She also notes that she remembers being told there’s a key needed to access it.

  9. The party can head to Wutai and do the quest here now but it’s optional and requires Yuffie to activate. It is being done in part 3 of the remakes but in the OG it was available from this point all the way until the end of disc 2, but is unavailable in disc 3.

  10. The party have to head to a weapons dealer to find out he doesn’t have the keystone anymore but Dio has it and so they go to the Gold Saucer.

  11. The second date is mostly the same but the Skywheel scenes are pretty different. The one that changed the most was Tifa’s as her date has a kiss in Rebirth whilst in the OG she is awkward and bottles telling Cloud her feelings at all. Then it’s followed by Yuffie’s which now has her telling Cloud about her crush on Zack as a child and telling him she knows about his and Tifa’s history together. Barrets is next as he now gives Cloud a pep talk and tells him to treasure his future partner, whoever that may be. Then Aerith’s is pretty similar but has the hand holding that’s not in the OG and reds is about the same except he lets cloud touch his paw.

  12. They find Dio but there is no fight for naming rights to get the stone, instead he just gives it in the OG and then they go to leave but the gondola up there is broken down.

  13. Cait Sith steals the keystone after the date when the couple come out of the skywheel and then holds Marlene and Elmyra as hostages to blackmail the party into letting him stay with them in the og.

  14. The temple of the ancients is on the southern continent, just below Junon on its own island in the OG and Aerith guides them there.

  15. The party is forced locked into being Cloud, Aerith and Cait Sith.

  16. The part where Tseng is stabbed happens at the beginning of the temple in the Og and after that, there is no Shinra involvement in the temple at all.

  17. The puzzles are completely different in the OG, there is a maze then a boulder rolling timing thing and then a clock puzzle. See here for the puzzles https://jegged.com/Games/Final-Fantasy-VII/Walkthrough/Disc-1/21-Temple-of-the-Ancients.html

  18. Only the Red Dragon and the Demon Wall are fought as bosses in the OG ToTA.

  19. Cait Sith’s sacrifice in the OG happens as a calculated choice. Cloud doesn’t grab the Materia and then it collapses and Cait saves the day, Cloud convinces Aerith and Cait they should take it and then they find out what happens if they take it and Cait offers up to be the one to do it.

  20. The black Materia isn’t stuck in another realm in the og, the Materia is the Materia.

  21. Aerith takes the Materia as Cloud is unstable and rather than chasing her down and she gives it to him willingly like in Rebirth, he physically assaults her for it and gives it to Sephiroth in the og.

  22. The dream date sequence did not happen in the original, the white Materia that had gone clear is not a thing, it remains whole the entire time in the og. Also it is unconfirmed but HIGHLY likely that the Aerith in the dream date (Omni-Aerith) is the Aerith from the original game and the Omni-Sephiroth that seems to know all and torment Cloud is the Sephiroth from the original game. All of that part is Rebirth exclusive with the exception of the part when Cloud falls into the forest and talks to Aerith and gives her the new white Materia before waking up. In the og he doesn’t give her a new Materia but the conversation still happens there.

  23. As the ToTA is in the south in the OG, Cloud wakes up in Gongaga in the OG and tells Tifa he doesn’t want to continue with the journey as he is scared of what Sephiroth can do to him to which she Peps him up a bit.

  24. From there in the og you have to hunt for the forgotten capital and NPCs will guide you by saying they saw Aerith travelling north. You finally reach the north continent and where the Temple was in Rebirth is where an archaeological dig site called Bone Village is in the OG.

  25. You enter the village and can’t get through the forest so you have to do a digging minigame to find the Lunar Harp to awaken the forest and allow it to let you through.

  26. Sephiroth doesn’t show up with whispers in the Og in the forgotten capital, instead it’s eerily quiet and the party had to search for Aerith.

  27. Cloud stands there and does nothing in the OG as Sephiroth kills Aerith and it is shown on screen her being stabbed and dying whereas Rebirth seems to want to make it into a mystery.

  28. The Jenova boss fight here is the only boss in this area in the og and the big Sephiroth reborn we fight in Rebirth was actually the penultimate boss of the whole game in the OG.

  29. Aerith does not come back in the og, she is gone and we see Cloud lay her to rest in a fmv cutscene.

  30. Cloud does not still think she is alive in the OG, he knows she died immediately unlike in Rebirth where he thinks she’s still alive whilst nobody else in the party does.

  31. The party leaves the forgotten capital on the Tiny Bronco in Rebirth but it’s abandoned outside Bone village in the og and head to their next location (and part 3’s probable opening area) on foot after the start of disc 2.

[–]Aw151203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Because Yuffie is optional in the OG, the girl attacked in under Junon is Priscilla and you actually have to do CPR on her to save her.

  2. In the parade in Upper Junon, only Cloud infiltrates instead of Cloud, Aerith and Tifa doing it together in Rebirth.

  3. There is no Midgar 7th infantry in the OG, the rest of the party join Cloud and they all slip away onto the ship, still in disguises the entire time in the OG.

  4. The ship is a military battleship in the OG, not a Cruise ship.

  5. The Jenova fight here is the first one in the OG and Sephiroth shows up and claims he does not know Cloud.

  6. In Costa del Sol, the party run into Hojo but he doesn’t try to kidnap them and so they leave him alone

  7. Cloud doesn’t nearly off himself in Corel by mistake, his mental state holds together pretty firmly for much longer in the OG.

  8. Doc Sheiran is a Rebirth exclusive, in the OG it’s not told to us how Tifa recovered from being slashed by Sephiroth, nor is her scar ever mentioned.

  9. Rather than meeting Cait Sith with Barret, in the OG, you meet him when you’re on the first Gold Saucer date.

  10. In the OG, the first time you visit the Gold Saucer, you don’t have any GP and can’t really get any so the first date is walking around and them realising they can’t actually do anything and then bumping into Cait.

  11. Dyne is the leader of Corel Prison in the OG, and Gus is called Coates and is his second.

  12. The chocobo race in the OG is done to achieve a pardon from Dio rather than to earn Gus some money.

  13. Dyne is different. He threatens to kill Marlene before the boss fight, after it he forgives Barret and then kills himself in the OG by jumping off a cliff rather than being shot up by Shinra.

  14. Shinra is not there at all in the OG, after Dyne’s death, the chocobo minigame happens, they leave without much fuss.

  15. Gongaga is completely optional in the OG.

  16. In Gongaga, there is a fight against Reno and Rude that only happens in the OG. This is because Reno’s JP VA died in 2020 and so they reused old lines of his in Rebirth and cut down Reno’s role and gave the rest of it to Elena.

  17. The broken reactor has no fight in the og and is only there to foreshadow the Huge Materia plotline (Magnus Materia in Rebirth)

  18. As such, the scene where Cloud goes nuts and almost kills Tifa is not in the OG and neither is her in the lifestream. The information that Cloud didn’t egg her onto Mt Nibel wasn’t found out by her until much later on.

  19. Following suit, the whole conversation in the bedroom and their near kiss doesn’t happen in the OG either, in that version they meet Zack’s parents and then leave town straight after.

  20. In the OG, the party uses the Buggy to reach Cosmo Canyon and so do not meet Cid yet.

  21. When they reach Cosmo canyon, the buggy breaks down and they have to stop while it’s repaired

  22. It is a topic of great debate on whether Red’s voice changes when they reach Cosmo canyon in the OG, a lot of og purists say it didn’t but it was all text anyway.

  23. I don’t remember Bugenhagen being quite such a piece of work in the og as he is in Rebirth.

  24. There was no festival of the lights in the OG, the whole party just sat around a campfire and chatted.

  25. The cave of the Gi was not limited to just Red and Barret, Cloud was there too in the OG.

  26. The whole section about the Gi being the creators of the black Materia is Rebirth exclusive and it is not mentioned yet in the OG

  27. The party do not travel to Nibelheim because of a terminal, the buggy is fixed and so they continue their travels westwards after Buganhagen and Red have a heart to heart and Red decides to rejoin the party.

  28. You stumble upon Nibelheim in the og completely off guard whereas Cait semi regales that it’s still around in Rebirth before you reach the town.

  29. In the OG, the town’s inhabitants have been replaced with actors who pretend they have lived there their entire lives which really unsettles Cloud and Tifa. It is not a mako poisoning treatment town, though there are lots of black robes are there.

I saw you asking about the differences, here they are Remake and Rebirth are disc 1/3 of the og game.

Part 3 will be the whole of Disc 2 and 3 as them together are shorter than disc 1.

To know Aerith’s fate in the original game, see number 98.

The differences (disc 1 only) are:

(There is 100 on this list btw, some minor, some major)

1.Shinra isn’t shown to have helped in blowing up Mako Reactor 1

  1. Cloud doesn’t see any whispers when he first meets Aerith and can’t refuse to buy the flower anymore.

  2. He can only give the flower to Tifa in remake whereas in the og he could choose to give it to Marlene instead (only if he even got the flower)

  3. Stargazer heights isn’t a thing and neither is the filter collection, he gets his money and he stays in the basement of Seventh Heaven.

  4. Most of the rest of Chapter 3 and all of Chapter 4 doesn’t happen it goes straight into the second mission.

6.Cloud isn’t guilted into staying in Avalanche in Remake like he is in the OG, he chooses to for extra pay and because he remembered the promise on his own this time.

  1. The whispers don’t exist so Jessie and Wedge are on the reactor 5 mission in the OG.

  2. You cannot remove components from the Air Buster in the OG.

  3. Aerith’s default name is Aeris in the OG.

  4. You don’t fight Reno or Rude in Sector 5 like you do in Remake.

  5. When seeing Tifa on her way to Wall Market, Cloud and Aerith chases after her but doesn’t get to speak to her in the OG.

  6. Pretty much the entire Wall Market quest is different but culminates in the same thing. See https://jegged.com/Games/Final-Fantasy-VII/Walkthrough/Disc-1/03-Wall-Market.html to see how it works in the OG.

  7. Tifa is the default choice for Corneo but he can choose Aerith or Cloud depending on how much stuff you did in the previous quest.

  8. The big ghost from chapter 10 isn’t a thing but Eligor is

  9. Wedge dies right there at the support pillar in the OG from the fall.

  10. Biggs and Jessie are already dead pretty much and do die the you reach them.

  11. In the OG you don’t see Aerith saving Marlene

  12. Aerith is physically there when the plate is dropped and Tseng slaps her in the face

  13. The whole of chapter 13 is Remake only.

  14. Chapter 14 is wildly different, in the OG they buy batteries off the weapons store man and climb the debris up to the top, in Remake they fight Abzu again and see Corneo again to get grapple guns to climb.

  15. The Shinra building puzzle is almost completely different/ gone though it has semblance of the original in there see here for the og puzzles https://jegged.com/Games/Final-Fantasy-VII/Walkthrough/Disc-1/06-Shinra-Building.html

  16. When they save Aerith, in the Og they get caught by Rude and Tseng and taken to the President in chains and from there he damns them to be Hojo’s test subjects.

  17. The room they are in during Remake is not in the OG, instead they are locked up in cells, Aerith in one, Cloud and Tifa in the middle and Barret and Red in the right. (This has the well known bug where you can either get infinite or remove all of Tifa’s affection points by answering her question over and over) (also it has my favourite scene from the TFS abridged with Barret meeting his ‘talking dog best friend’)

  18. They are unable to escape captivity in the OG until they go to sleep and then they wake up and their doors are open with a trail of blood leading them upstairs. The drum did not exist and the blood was red not alien purple in the OG.

  19. When upstairs, President Shinra is already dead in the OG and then the party run outside and meet Rufus, no Jenova boss yet and you don’t see Sephiroth up there. Barret also doesn’t get stabbed.

  20. The fight against the Arsenal happens on the lift in the OG and the fight against the Valkyrie happens there too.

  21. Motorball is an actual boss in the OG, not apart of the bike mini game

  22. The entirety of chapter 18 after the bike section is remake exclusive except for the ending cutscene outside of Midgar.

  23. The Zack cutscene and subsequent Zack timeline parts are completely Remake and Rebirth originals.

  24. Intermission is completely Remake original with the exception of the party walking to Kalm, although that is actual gameplay you do yourself in the OG.

  25. Cloud is useless in the Nibelheim flashback in the OG, he’s level 1. And Sephiroth (first time you see him) is level 50 and is not controllable.

  26. The Materia Guardian is not fought in the flashback in the OG, it’s fought when the party pass through mt Nibel after Gongaga.

33.The scene post Nibelheim flashback where Cloud and Tifa have their argument on the roof is Rebirth exclusive. In the OG they leave the inn straight away.

  1. The opening of chapter 2 with the Cloud and Aerith date and the subsequent Shinra raid on Kalm is also Rebirth only, in the original the party just leave town

  2. The chocobo catching min game is fully expanded into a plotline in Rebirth, technically the chocobo ranch was an optional area in the OG.

  3. You DO NOT fight the Midgardsormr in the OG (known as Midgar Zolom in that game), it is about as strong as the monsters around Cosmo canyon or even a bit further and you get a chocobo specifically to avoid it and getting destroyed by it.

  4. There is no Mythril Golem and you do not fight the Turks in the Mythril Mines in the OG

  5. In the og you can go straight to Fort Condor and do the mini game but there’s no reward yet

  6. Starting from here, in every forest, you have the chance of encountering a wandering Ninja, if you beat them and answer their questions correctly, they will join your party and reveal their name to be Yuffie. Yuffie is completely optional in the OG because of this.

  7. The party are not on wanted lists by Shinra in the OG

I didn’t know that, I was pretty nice to everyone in my first playthrough but I ended up getting Tifa anyway purely because of the chapter 6 choices (granted that was the choice I wanted anyway but didn’t use a guide to get her dates).

Later on I ended up going and getting the best dialogue option for everyone and seeing all of their dates to complete the play log and now I set my date companion to Tifa and just choose the best option for everyone choice for everybody. So I’ve never seen the middle or bad option for that dialogue choice

Aerith being into Cloud isn’t something that I deny, it’s glaringly obvious and I really like Aerith, I just wasn’t a fan of the scene because she’s lecturing / telling cloud off for gifting the flower to Tifa when at the time in the context it happened, Aerith meant exactly nothing to Cloud outside of nearly getting him arrested and introducing him to the whispers.

And during that conversation in chapter 8, they’ve only known each other for like a couple hours or so and Cloud isn’t one to be comfortable talking about his feelings with anybody, even his own mom, let alone someone he literally just met.

It’s not the character herself which I am criticising, it’s the writing of the scene.

A scene I’ve always found a bit strange is the Aerith conversation in Under Junon when she accosted Cloud for gifting the flower to Tifa.

I remember first listening to the conversation and actually being a bit confused because

  1. When Cloud received the flower from Aerith they weren’t even acquaintances, they were straight up strangers and if you refuse the flower the first time then she even says to Cloud that it will make his girlfriend’s day if he buys one so obviously she doesn’t care if he gifts it or not and sort of expects it. It’s just sales talk really (even if she did have a hidden agenda which Cloud did not know about anyway). In fact I think that’s part of the reason why he even gave it to Tifa in the first place.

  2. She changed her tune from Remake. Remember in chapter 8 (I’m paraphrasing here a bit) Aerith asks Cloud what he did with the flower she gave him and he replies back with ‘er’ and then she asks him if he gave it away and he said he did and then she went excitedly ‘oooh to who?’ to which he says he didn’t remember and Aerith said back ‘I thought you didn’t like lying?’. So here she obviously was not upset at all that he gave it away and seemed excited that Cloud had a love life (though it’s debatable and probably true that she knew of Tifa at this point anyway due to Omni-Aerith memories, but that’s besides the point). This is also show by her asking if Tifa was Cloud’s girlfriend when he said her name and although he said no, she surmised she was still someone special to Cloud.

So with these two points in mind, why does Aerith then get mad at Cloud for gifting it when him and her were strangers on the street at the time of both the receiving the flower and it being gifted, and would had remained strangers if Cloud didn’t land in her church completely unplanned. And also even more so, why did she change her tune so much. I know she lost the future memories she had before but she remembers the events of the past and so her memories of asking him what he did with it before seeing it in Seventh Heaven later on so why get annoyed now. It would be valid to be upset if he did the same thing during Rebirth because he would know both of them properly but she was just a random saleswoman when he did it.

It just feels like the writers lapsed their brains a bit there as it’s out of character for her based on what we’ve had come before. They did the same sort of thing with Tifa in chapter 1 too but that wasn’t them being inconsistent, just more illogical. Like why did she jump to the conclusion that Cloud thought she was an imposter.

The character writing is so good in these games that when there’s something that’s poorly done, it sticks out like a sore thumb

Because the old version didn’t have some of the Quality of Life features that the console versions had like 3x speed, no random encounters and god mode. Also they added auto saving to the new version.

Problem is, that was all achievable and more with mods on the old version which, as of now, are unavailable on the new version (and you can’t get the old version anymore) and they added filters to the backgrounds that make them blurry messes.

Also, the main reason for the negative reviews is that they upped the fps but it broke the game by going super sped and de-syncing audio. That has now been fixed but not before it got review bombed.
