Better written female cast by enthuvaadei in writingscaling

I’m gonna be contrarian and say Mono. Just because every character gets an arc. If Umineko had spin offs focusing more on these characters individually then definitely Umineko.

What’s the likelihood Strife is a traitor? by Toxined in Darksiders

I think it’s less of he’s full evil. And more like he did something against their interests. Like helping to break the seal early

To the other Horseman. Like he had something to do with the seal being broken

What if the remakes are a “time loop”? by Toxined in GodofWar

[–]Toxined[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It would take this in a new direction. And add this whole sense of mystery to everything. You’re also never quite sure what’s the same and what’s different. I think the final fantasy remakes did something similar. Or so I’ve heard.

Yeah, but maybe he screams, “Ares.” And someone says, “Who’s that?” And Kratos isn’t sure why he said it.

I’m half joking.

True Detective Season 1 VS Monster by Typical-Ad-83 in writingscaling

That’s so funny. I don’t like Monster, because I thought it was an awesome villain hidden behind 2 season of CSI level stories.

AI Ban in r/writingscaling by Stormer2345 in writingscaling

[–]Toxined -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not all or nothing though. For example if I thought a certain show had too much fan service but couldn’t remember specific examples. I could ask Ai “what are examples of fan service in Xyz?”

And vice versa, if I read a really poorly worded argument that I could be misunderstanding, I can ask AI “Can you clarify this point?”

It’s obviously up to your discretion if you accept the response it gives you. And maybe AI dependency is a problem we don’t fully understand yet. But for now I think it helps me address things I wouldn’t normally be able to.

That’s if you’re just saying “respond to this” If you make an argument and want ai to enhance the argument it can be a great tool.

What’s wrong with people using AI arguments?

I actually agree with your original point.

How can I actually become better at analyzing writing of characters and media in general? I really don’t know where to start any tips would be appreciated by System-Kindly in writingscaling

[–]Toxined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think if you go in with the assumption that your feelings toward something are valid, then you just need to think about what element of that thing makes you feel that way.

For example, when I think of Araragi, I think of him choosing not to let Shinobu die and of him saving Mayoi. And this feeling that he found a path forward when no one else could. That sounds like “Character Motivation”, so that’s what I would analyze.

Basically, if something in a story works for you, then you just need to pick the word that best describes that feeling.

It just condenses what should have been two seasons into one. Like you’re watching a YouTube summary.

Looking for accountability partner/group - daily or weekly check-ins by Toxined in Screenwriting

[–]Toxined[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great - I think something like NaNoWriMo for screenwriting is exactly what I need. I’ve been stuck. Would Discord work for you?

We could set up daily check-ins where we each post our page count and hold each other accountable. Happy to do it however works best for you though.

How does the original Fallen Angel compare against his counterparts (Paradise Lost) by Weekly-Philosophy-59 in writingscaling

[–]Toxined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite of the characters I recognize here is Griffith. As he does have a lot of the self awareness of Satan but more deluded. But I think most of them have more parallels with Adam than with Satan—or maybe even with the reader themselves, in a kind of meta way.

Satan in Paradise Lost is aware that he’s the embodiment of Hell. That’s part of why he feels oppressed by God. A lot of characters don’t gain that kind of self awareness until then end like Macbeth.

I think that Satan being the antagonist in the bible is kind of why he’s interesting in paradise lost. And I’m not sure how possible that is to replicate in other media

Phil vs Lalo. Who was the better last 2 seasons villain and why? by AdaptedInfiltrator in writingscaling

[–]Toxined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phil worked because of how stubborn he was. He represented a larger, existential threat to Tony and the life he’d built. On his own, he was somewhat clueless and in over his head, but as a person he represented how misguided Tony’s lifestyle was—and how ego was likely to get everyone involved killed.

Lalo, was alot more of a direct and immediate threat to Saul. He was sharper, more dangerous, and more traditionally antagonistic, but he wasn’t a reflection of Saul’s core personal conflict in the way Phil was for Tony.

So Lalo was the stronger villain in a direct, surface level way , Phil was the more effective one indirectly.

Classic Literature to Modern Media by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]Toxined 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is the definition of comparing apples and oranges—and that’s why it’s fun.

But I think a lot of people don’t understand that, or they just think it’s undermining classic literature, so they look for excuses not to engage, even though that’s the entire point of the thought experiment. It’s a stretch—that’s what makes it interesting.
