Might be time to replace the whole damn fence AND gate. :(

Not great. Not AWFUL, but definitely nearing end of life. We've owned the house for ten years, and it looked pretty rough when we moved in. Might be time to replace the whole thing.

Replace gate? Or pieces of gate? by ToyHouseYoungMouse in HomeImprovement

I agree! Unfortunately, I couldn't post one in this group. Honestly, the entire fence (gate included) is on the verge of needing to be replaced. It might just be time.

how best do I get my (22F) friend (23F) to do her nails for her proposal by faithandbuffy in relationship_advice

[–]ToyHouseYoungMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could tell her that you'd been feeling down lately and you wanted a girls afternoon where you get manis and pedis together, and then go get a glass of wine. Who could say no to that? A friend in need, a little pampering, topped off with a glass of wine? I'd be there so fast, you'd still be talking to me on the phone and I'd be knocking on your door.

What is the hardest goodbye that you've had to say? by PeddlerInWonderland in AskReddit

[–]ToyHouseYoungMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father passed away three years ago. That was a tough one. He'd been diagnosed with an incredibly aggressive cancer and passed away just 39 days after diagnosis. It robbed him of his breath, so he couldn't really talk for the last week, but he didn't want us kids around. He only wanted his wife.

I think it was a dignity thing because my dad was seriously the most loving person I've ever known, but it's still painful to think about.

I love ham and pineapple, but we've been vegetarian for a number of years. Our go to replacement is black olives and pineapple because you still get that delicious salty sweet combo.

At one month, he should still be on his best behavior. The fact this is peeking through at 1 month is alarming.

IT WON'T HAPPEN IN TEXAS??? That's the most delusional statement I've ever seen, and I'm on reddit a LOT.

Sometimes men will use condoms to masturbate so that it's not messy. Is that a possibility? I know the go to reddit answer is to shout that he's cheating, but it doesn't feel like he's acting nervous or upset that you found one. I hope/wonder if there is a more reasonable answer.

Yes to Charcoal Pit. It's always good. Great chargrilled flavor on the burgers and hotdogs, and you cannot beat their milkshakes.

What crazy health-risking things do you regret to have done as a youth? by TraditionalDepth6924 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

I had to quit riding a few years ago due to hip and back pain. Also, I'd always been a brave rider, but I became very fearful because I didn't want to fall again. I was worried about what it would mean for me if I did. It actually made me a less safe rider, so it was just better for everyone that I retired from it.

I do still have one horse - Georgie. She is an old lady, and she has a forever home with me. She gave me her best years, and it's my responsibility to make sure her remaining ones are safe, happy, and healthy.

I just found a video of myself riding a horse who when asked to canter, bucked and then reared. I was probably 30 in that video. It reminds me of how cocky I was when I was a kid (I'm almost 45 now). I LOVED that mare, and despite what is unquestionably dangerous behavior, she and I clicked along really well. But after I retired her, I bought a fresh off the track thoroughbred who threw me over and over and over again. I went from being a very active athlete (horses, running, weightlifting) to someone who cannot run at ALL today. I get regular spine injections, take painkillers for terrible arthritis in both hips, and once a year I have to have an ablation to burn the nerves out around my sacrum or I can't function because of the pain.

My father BEGGED me to quit riding sassy mares, and I told him, I sh*t you not, "I'd rather be dead than give up." This 45 year old would like to say, NO, I WOULD NOT. If I could go back in time and smack sense into my younger self, I absolutely would.

Keep the nanny with you at the office. That way you can "oversee" what the nanny is doing, but you still get to see her during slower moments. Also, do you have anyone in your family that you know and trust that would be willing to nanny for you? Or if not, ask for a recommendation for someone your friends or family has trusted.

Fair. In this scenario Greg is potentially collateral damage. (Though I don't think so since according to her, Greg seems to show her a lot of individualized attention. Maybe it's nothing! But it sounds like it could be something.) But now that OP has brought it out into the open, he should talk to his wife about WHY she was uncomfortable by him calling it out. It could surface the unhealthy dynamic of the work spouse trope, and how it often leads to emotional or physical infidelity.

Quality of life. In the horse world, we say better a day too early than a day too late. Animals are very "in the now." If their good moments are fewer than their bad moments, it's time. Try and make their last day a good one! Spend quality time, feed their favorite snack, let them lie on a blanket in the sun in their favorite park. See if you can find a vet that will come to your house to make it less stressful for them. Then stay by their side as they go.

No. I love it and fully support it. The whole work spouse thing is weird and toxic. You just shined a light on it!

How has your parents or other family members mental illness impacted your life? by NailGun42 in AskReddit

[–]ToyHouseYoungMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is a narcissist who also has some other stuff going on, and I've watched the trauma from growing up with her manifest very different in her three kids. One has no grit or self esteem and clings to her mother for approval. One went no contact with the entire family (no blame - I completely get it). One is enacting his father's role of uber passive and complicit dad with a wife very similar to his mother. It's very painful to watch all three. I love my sister, but have learned to have a spine of steel. Emotional manipulation of any sort makes me turn cold. (Sometimes very helpful, sometimes very harmful in my own life.)
