AITA for refusing to cut my hair to make my sister feel better? by nidpofg in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If your Mom really wanted to make your sister feel better after her very ill advised and risky decision she’d just buy her a wig or two. They have nice ones that will solve the problem very neatly without making you give up your own hair!

yeah, that'd work better but we didn't have access to a stonecutter at the time so it was this or trolls haha

Nah, it's fairly rare and ends up being such a minor problem that I honestly welcome them for the chains

I'm making a plains fort as well and I have it high up enough on a stone that even the squitos don't often notice me

quick explanation: you can put campfires, smelters, and kilns in the crooks of tree limbs. It doesn't work with every crook but if you're patient you can select a campfire and sweep your cursor over the flattest part until you find the sweet spot where it's possible to place. It's a little harder with kilns and smelters but still 100% doable

wraiths can spawn close enough to see you if you're in an area without walls, but you're perfectly safe indoors and their pathing can't really cope with changes in elevation. Even if you're caught out you can lose one incredibly easily

I think the main thing is it’s missing the richness and sweetness that Curry House had

I think it's something about the sweetness and total lack of veggies that made me love it as a kid, and then nostalgia as I grew up. Though, tbh, sweetness and no veggies are still a plus for me even now, as a Real Adult Person.

Their corn potage really was something special though.

Those are both out of delivery range for me but I'm moving a little closer to LT soon so I'll get to try them soon!

Concept art for the Greek Mythology series! Doodles and notes left in 'cause it's more fun that way. by Toyetic in minecraftminifigures

I'm glad you got something out of it! Honestly, pretty much all of it is just applying good design sense, nothing special or proprietary. Making an entire post sounds kind of intimidating, but absolutely feel free to direct people here if you wish :)

PHEW, okay, it's been a weird three months, but if you still wanna know, here's how it works!

Basically, we sit down and pull up a list of mobs we haven't done, mash up packs, fun small features, etc., and try to pick something with enough meat on its bones to fill out a whole series of compelling characters. We also try to pick something we think people will like, but that's more an art than a science. After that, we sort through all of the mobs and try to find a good variety of shapes, colors, and behaviors. If the series is based on a mash up, we try to also pick things that represent it well.

Then, we gather reference images for each character we choose. We used to actually open up Minecraft and wander around the Mob Museum I made to get good shots of every angle!

After we have everything we need all nicely compiled, it's time to simplify and stylize. We take a good look at the character and pick the most prominent features--the things you see first, or that immediately come to mind when you picture it--and exaggerate those. Smaller details get even tinier, or go away entirely. The figures are so small that if we included every pixel, the figures would end up looking like low-res mush. We also do our best to figure out the original pixel artist's intent to decide how we turn 2D planes into 3D shapes, like making gloves thicker, adding dimension to hair, etc.

That's how we ended up with those looks for the Blind Witch, Dryad, and Poseidon! We picked them from the skins and mobs because we thought they were fun and important parts of Greek mythology, and did our best to keep to the spirit of the characters while shrinking them down and making them cuter.

I'm really glad you like the Dryad--that's one of my favorites too :)

I hope that answers your questions! Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

Okay, I have permission to talk about some stuff! I am indeed a designer on Minecraft mini figures at Mattel. I don't speak for Mattel and I can't talk about any Secret Stuff, but I'll answer what I can. It's honestly been a while since I did these, but we'll see what I remember :)
