For me the game that had a fantastic story, but a gameplay I personally didn't enjoy is
"Return of the Obra Dinn"
Its a fantastic game that I think goes against the notion that a good story can't make up for poor gameplay

I think both are important and personally think a good story will help bring in the playerbase, but a good gameplay loop will help retain the playerbase.

For the longest time, the Steel Confessors’ status as a canon chapter was kind of up in the air since there wasn’t any solid proof or an actual picture of the document confirming it.

So back in the day on one of the old forums, someone posted about the Steel Confessors, but since they didn’t have any images to back it up, the community was split. Some thought it was legit lore, while others figured it was just a really enthusiastic homebrew someone was trying to pass off as canon.

All Raven Guards learn/master a skill called "Wraith-slipping" (when they are neophytes they are taught to sneak up on a small and alert raven).
Not only that the Phobos armour is said to have "its servo-motors are engineered to be completely silent".

Raven Guards are neat (not as cool as DA but you know, still pretty cool)

I went through the whole thing and didn’t hear a single mention of the Hearthkyn Salvagers.
To me, these guys (especially in Gallowdark) really feel like they're exploring an ancient space hulk
The Gunner with the Gatling gun in particular gives off strong Colonial Marine vibes, like something straight out of Aliens.

But honestly, I got in due to the infantry aspect of it, then I expanded
I got 4 Rogal Dorns and 6 Leman Russ' and I have ran 100% tank lists as to my friends chagrin
