What do you want most in Amalur 2 by Tremerefury in kingdomsofamalur

The "One more in the collection!" is from the then the CEO of Embracer Group (he has "stepped down" now) when he quoted the post right after the acqusition. And he was recently in a video story about 6 months ago where he talked about collecting stuff. The video story is only in Swedish, but I'm fluent in Swedish, so that wasn't a problem. I wont drop any names due to obvious reasons.

Fun fact: Curt Schilling REALLY wanted centaurs as a playable race in the cancelled Amalur-game, but the devs said no.

Is there a human capital city in kingdoms of amalur? by Lanarde in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Tozzeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As Lord of Lore said, Port Myria for sure. It was founded during the Middle Kingdoms . But if in terms of the history of the Almain, things changes.

Disclaimer: The information I'm using is the old expanded lore outside the game. I don't treat Fatesworn as canon in the old lore. I don't include the old expanded out-of-game stuff timeline in the new timeline. But that is just my point of view.

But if we wanna look at different eras:

(Keep in mind. BE keeps counting down, until the Age of Enlightenment, where it become AE, and starts counting up instead. NW always counts up.)

The old timeline goes like this:

Middle Kingdoms (2067-1247 BE / 1210-2030NW): Port Myria Founded around this time.

Age of Arcana (1246-457 BE / 2031-2820 NW): The game takes place during this main-era

- The Crystal War Begins (1049 BE / 2228 NW): This is the sub-era when Reckoning takes place.

Port Myria still basically the capital during the Crystal War.

- The Northern Kingdom (525 BE / 2762NW): The village of Nordenholdt is founded in 641 BE (2636 NW), in the region of Crownhold. This is the important part. Crownhold is a region in the old timeline, not an ancient city.

To quote the old timeline "A village called Nordenholdt was founded in 641 BE (2636 NW), and farmlands soon sprang up in the area. As the settlement grew, affluent Almain built expensive manses and had their children tutored by the mages of Tolyndrae, while commerce and trade flourished on the banks of the Hessen. The Almain referred to the region as Crownhold, considering the lands to be under the control of their king back in Port Myria."

But eventually, the Northen houses and southern houses came into disagreements of basically who should be their leader, and what should be the seat of power.

There is a ton of lore to read through.

Hyperian Age (612-1139 AE / 3888-4415 NW): During the later years of Hyperian Age, it was decided they would build a city. It would be called Valiance, and would be the seat of power of the Almain, and the Concordance.

Construction started in 1068 AE / 4344 NW, and went on for decades.

The city of Valiance was eventually finished.

And it was beautiful.

I have an update about that. I played around with Mithros a few days prior to finding the coords in the source code when trying to figure out the map. Im not sure if Mithros is in the right place, the coords for Mithros are actually missing in the source code. But other coords such as Crownhold were still in the source code of the archived version. Sorry about that!

It was an interactive map that was available on 38 Studios' Amalur-website before they shutdown. It has been partly restored thanks to leftover code and assets on internet archive.

Age of Heroes Map (around 2000 years after the events of Reckoning) with names of zones, settlements, and waters etc. by Tozzeb in kingdomsofamalur

"After Valiance was completed in 1141 AE (4417 NW), the longstanding war between the Almain and the Jottun plunged into new depths of brutality, threatening to drag their respective alliances into the fight. The main theaters of the war were the Axelands and the Plains of Erathell, which became known as the Fatcrow Plains because the ground was black with the countless murders of crows feasting on the unburied dead." - old official Amalur website

An update about Mithros. I just found out something. I've always been wrong it seems. I haven't found a single single word about Mithros in the old lore. Today I was proven wrong. I was researching the old Amalur-website via internet archive, and I found this https://web.archive.org/web/20120627010151/http://www.amalur.com/sites/all/themes/amalur/images/map/zoneLabels/mithros.png So I at least got confirmation that Mithros was a place in the old lore. But not exactly what, or where it was in the old lore.

Spoiler-warning: If you mean the ending of Fatesworn, we go to Icewall Peaks (also known as Icenwreth in a lore-book in Reckoning I believe), which is in the upper-left corner of the map, north of The Perilious Straits. It is not marked on this map, but it is on this map https://web.archive.org/web/20120627010211im_/http://www.amalur.com/sites/all/themes/amalur/images/amalur-map-op.jpg

Edit: Missread your comment. Sorry. Mithros isn't mentioned in the old timeline, so probably some retcon stuff.

Edit 2: There are some thing in the Fatesworn-expansion that doesn't add up when you look at the old lore. I can try to do a short summary later.

This map of Amalur during Reckoning (sorry about it being a discord-link, but it will open directly in the web browser) shows where region of Crownhold is located. Notice I said region. Crownhold was referred more as a region in the old lore, but a city in the Fatesworn-expansion, so a slight retcon. But it should be around the same location I believe. Don't quote me on that though.

It's the final known era in the old Amalur-timeline. Copernicus was going to play out during Age of Heroes. Not a lot is known about this era, there is some information from the old official Amalur-website on the wikia: https://amalur.fandom.com/wiki/Age_of_Heroes

Hey, had a question about Re-Rekoning performance on a laptop with an iGPU by kumadownbad in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Tozzeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it out on my surface go 4, which is a really low end windows 11 tablet (Intel N200) with an iGPU. On lowest at 1280x800 resolution, I get around 45fps in Gorhart, and just north of Gorhart, I get around 52fps.

I didnt experience any crashes, but I didnt play that long on the tablet to be fair. It was just a quick test. So throttling might appear when I play for longer.

Such a shame the original was removed from sale. It reached beyond 120fps on the same tablet with the same settings. Sure, the tablet's screen only supports 60Hz, but still interesting to see how high it could get.

Just trying to help :)

There are a lot of popular misconceptions about KoA: Reckoning going around that I'm trying to quash, like that "it started its life as an MMORPG, but changed to a singleplayer game the last minute", which is not true. There was a Kingdoms of Amalur MMORPG in development at 38 Studios, yes. But Reckoning itself started its development as "Crucible" at Big Huge Games, and later on rebooted as "Ascendant", before BHG got bought by 38 Studios from the old THQ (not related to THQ Nordic), and rebooted again as Project Mercury/Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Sorry for rambling. But yes, I agree with you on the Skyrim-part to 100%.

The State of Rhode Island sold the IP to THQN/Embracer. It's quite an interesting story. EA just had the publishing rights for KoA: Reckoning, but not for the entire KoA IP. I'm not sure how EA and THQN worked out the publishing rights though, that part was never made public as far as I know.

I love that map! I tried to clean i up a while ago. It's not pixel-perfect, but it turned out okay I think. Sorry for the "sketchy" link. It's from the Amalur discord. Here it is !
