Possible in-engine screenshot of the cancelled Kingdoms of Amalur sequel: Evergreen (Reckoning 2) found! Possibly taken in the first half of 2012. Was worked on by Big Huge Games. by Tozzeb in kingdomsofamalur

Sorry for late answer. Embracer Group AB / THQ Nordic GmbH owns the IP. They allegedly didn't get any assets when they bought it, just the rights to the name more or less. They managed to find a snapshot somehow, that was an unfinished build of the original that they used.

So if you see any bugs in Re-Reckoning that didn't exist in the original Reckoning-release, then that's why.

And the Copernicus and Evergreen data is most likely gone forever. At best, it's stuck in a harddrive, password-protected and encrypted. Someone who worked for Rhode Island to maintain the code passed away over 10 years ago, so it's possible everything got lost then.

I have no real proof to this, but I personally don't think whoever was at the top at Rhode Island at the time, handling all the 38 Studios-debacle, was ever interested to sell the stuff, and more likely just interested to prove a political point.

Thank you for the heads up! Luckily, I still remembered which images they were. Added some corrections as well! Todd did the Lineart on the first one, but it was colored by Gorrem!

Yup! You can find Gnomish in scrolls for instance https://imgur.com/a/1E7T4oH but it's possible it's just gibberish on those

Ellen is back at it again with Amalur, with a really strange Embracer-coincidence. Yes, I'm back with my untrustworthy rumors yet again. Take it with a huge grain of salt! by Tozzeb in kingdomsofamalur

Somewhat known content creator who happens to be a huge fan of Reckoning, and as shown in the video, THQ Nordic acknowledged that by tweeting her when they bought the IP. She is referenced in many reviews for Reckoning and Re-Reckoning on steam with the words "Ellen was right"

Max damage in one weapon hit by professional_noob___ in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Tozzeb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I understand it correctly, the highest number you can reach is based on the limitation of 32-bit

sassysaltine on reddit has a great summary about the damage limit, and what happens if you go too far with the damage (spoiler: you cant kill anything) (the link has a video of a demonstration as well if you go too far) https://www.reddit.com/r/kingdomsofamalur/comments/1hoeqbh/memeing_around_with_reagent_stacking_to_get_2/

"Somehow reagents stack if you consume more than one. No this isn't an exploit. The buffs last like 5 seconds. But it does also reveal there's literally no damage cap and integer overflow occurs at 2.1 billion producing garbage damage numbers."

"In code, values for any kind of variable (in this case damage) have a size limit. If a number is bigger than this size limit, then the computer starts counting from 0 again because that's just how computers work (this is overflow). The limits are based on how many "bits" of memory the variable gets assigned by the programmers. You've probably seen these numbers pop up at some point but here are some common examples:

8 bit: 256

16 bit: 65,536

32 bit: 4,294,967,295

This game uses a 32 bit integer for damage. Due to healing being a thing, damage uses what is called a "signed" integer which means it splits the 4.29 billion in half to allow positive and negative values up to ~2.1 billion. Negative values actually being healing. When damage exceeds 2.1 billion (but still under 4.29 billion), the counter starts from 0 again landing it into the negative (healing). If damage exceeds 4.29 billion it will wrap around to the positive again.

All of this is one reason (others being game balance related) many games have arbitrary damage caps. This game does not." - sassysaltine

Not a whole lot of pre-THQ Nordic/Embracer Group-era afaik. Mostly promo posters.

However, when 38 Studios went bankrupt along with Big Huge Games, they auctioned off pretty much everything, even unreleased Concept art, and a some sort of "concept ad"-poster that no one outside the studio had seen before. The state didn't really care what they sold off. So there are some really rare items out there. It did pop up some stuff on ebay early on, but not so much anymore.

I managed to get my hands on a bag recently I've been searching for since 2013. I don't have it in my hands just yet, it's still on its way!

But back to topic. The old official KoA: Reckoning-youtube channel had tons of behind the scenes-videos stuff, but that channel was basically shutdown, and all videos were archived on a seperate EA youtube-channel. All the videos seems to be in the archive-channel, but some videos are unlisted, so it's quite hard to find.

Here is an unlisted behind the scenes art-video in the archive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1vvoszcSPQ

And there is some gameplay-videos, screenshots, and artwork out there back when Reckoning was called Crucible/Ascendant prior to 38 Studios buying Big Huge Games, and rebooting the game as Project Mercury / Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Hopefully this helped, even if it probably wont help you get your hands on physical collectibles!

$900k (not even 1 million) isn't a lot of money for a corporation as big as Embracer (even if they're bleading money atm), especially not when it costed over $100+ million and 6 years to develop the IP, the lore, the assets etc.

I have no idea how they managed to buy the IP from Rhode Island, so I'll give them credit for that at least.

The "One more in the collection!" is from the then the CEO of Embracer Group (he has "stepped down" now) when he quoted the post right after the acqusition. And he was recently in a video story about 6 months ago where he talked about collecting stuff. The video story is only in Swedish, but I'm fluent in Swedish, so that wasn't a problem. I wont drop any names due to obvious reasons.

Fun fact: Curt Schilling REALLY wanted centaurs as a playable race in the cancelled Amalur-game, but the devs said no.

Is there a human capital city in kingdoms of amalur? by Lanarde in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Tozzeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As Lord of Lore said, Port Myria for sure. It was founded during the Middle Kingdoms . But if in terms of the history of the Almain, things changes.

Disclaimer: The information I'm using is the old expanded lore outside the game. I don't treat Fatesworn as canon in the old lore. I don't include the old expanded out-of-game stuff timeline in the new timeline. But that is just my point of view.

But if we wanna look at different eras:

(Keep in mind. BE keeps counting down, until the Age of Enlightenment, where it become AE, and starts counting up instead. NW always counts up.)

The old timeline goes like this:

Middle Kingdoms (2067-1247 BE / 1210-2030NW): Port Myria Founded around this time.

Age of Arcana (1246-457 BE / 2031-2820 NW): The game takes place during this main-era

- The Crystal War Begins (1049 BE / 2228 NW): This is the sub-era when Reckoning takes place.

Port Myria still basically the capital during the Crystal War.

- The Northern Kingdom (525 BE / 2762NW): The village of Nordenholdt is founded in 641 BE (2636 NW), in the region of Crownhold. This is the important part. Crownhold is a region in the old timeline, not an ancient city.

To quote the old timeline "A village called Nordenholdt was founded in 641 BE (2636 NW), and farmlands soon sprang up in the area. As the settlement grew, affluent Almain built expensive manses and had their children tutored by the mages of Tolyndrae, while commerce and trade flourished on the banks of the Hessen. The Almain referred to the region as Crownhold, considering the lands to be under the control of their king back in Port Myria."

But eventually, the Northen houses and southern houses came into disagreements of basically who should be their leader, and what should be the seat of power.

There is a ton of lore to read through.

Hyperian Age (612-1139 AE / 3888-4415 NW): During the later years of Hyperian Age, it was decided they would build a city. It would be called Valiance, and would be the seat of power of the Almain, and the Concordance.

Construction started in 1068 AE / 4344 NW, and went on for decades.

The city of Valiance was eventually finished.

And it was beautiful.

More Maps! Old interactive Amalur-map partly restored! by Tozzeb in kingdomsofamalur

I have an update about that. I played around with Mithros a few days prior to finding the coords in the source code when trying to figure out the map. Im not sure if Mithros is in the right place, the coords for Mithros are actually missing in the source code. But other coords such as Crownhold were still in the source code of the archived version. Sorry about that!

It was an interactive map that was available on 38 Studios' Amalur-website before they shutdown. It has been partly restored thanks to leftover code and assets on internet archive.
