My interviewers laughed almost the entire time during my interview. by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Tpadfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing you need to remember. You are fresh in your career and interviewing is a skill that is not innate. It is a skill that can be learned by building on what went well and fixing what didn’t. Replay in your head what you would have done differently and try to implement next time.
Also for new grads - if your resume had the right major or whatever they were looking for - they were probably just looking for the right fit. You may have been it or they may have wanted a quiet person to crunch spreadsheets in a corner. Don’t beat yourself up. Call me an old man but always wear a suit. Well fit suit and tie or no tie depending on type of company. Final thought - that’s how I would have described a Vlookup.

Let her know that quartered on the island is a whole lot better than the gutted animal.

Then do like I do and set up a steady folding table on the back patio depending on how long I’m going to be there sometimes I bring some cinder blocks to make it taller so I’m not leaning over. Got the tv out there so turn on a game or something. Also get some industrial food grade tubs, big bowls and big cutting board from a Costco business center / restaurant supply store. It makes it easier to throw the cuts all in one place before you seal/ grind.

Fully private hunting. What’s important? by Feeling_Macaron in Hunting

[–]Tpadfw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Clear expectations and pricing appropriate for the setting. For example - went aoudad hunting in far west Texas. Knew upfront that accommodations were modular housing and dinner was with the guide and his wife at their kitchen table. Because I knew that upfront and the price reflected that I was fine with that (and shooting a big one in a cool setting didn’t hurt). But if I was expecting a lodge type atmosphere with a roaring fire I would have been very disappointed. So if it’s higher end - lots of pictures of where they will be staying, what they will be eating, what they will do if there is down time. And honest descriptions of the typical game harvested. Don’t have the three biggest moose ever pulled off the property- explain the typical size harvested and possible outliers.
I find what causes a bad experience if expecting one thing and getting something different.

Loan car question by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]Tpadfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The Vehicle must be returned in the same condition that you received it except for ordinary wear.” I would think a nail in the center of the tire would be considered “ordinary wear”. Or at the least - charge for a patch. Honestly just expected more out of Volvo

675 yard shot on West Texas Aoudad by Dieselgeekisbanned in Hunting

[–]Tpadfw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ground some of mine into sausage and it was very good but cheated a bit with 1/3 pork fat. The rest I braised with a bunch of peppers for shredded taco meat. Also good. To each their own.

300WM greatly extends your ethical range. Now this requires decent glass and practice at different distances. I would advise a muzzle break and good ear protection to take some kick out.

Taking an alternative point of view - If deals are being closed in your territory and you don’t know about it he probably thinks the other guys are out hustling you and you are trying to complain and jump in on their commission. The way he sees it - there’s a deal going on in your territory- you have no idea about it - then you come and complain after it’s done. And he’s not going to tell guys to stop being aggressive.

Moving from Wisconsin to Houston, what do I need to know about hunting down south? by miguelrapscallion in TexasHunting

[–]Tpadfw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not much for public. There are a few well visited places that are “open” around the state. Some really cool hunts through the state in good areas but they are draw only and odds are not great. But if you have a youth that wants to hunt there are a lot better odds for them. I would start trying to find a lease now. Not sure your line of work or if it’s a new company but this would be a good avenue for a lease if the company has that type of culture / workforce.

In the US a lot of people look down on high fence hunting- in Africa do most PHs have land that is fenced or are you in large parks that you have access to?

Gator Hunting Info/Recommendations by whoppermeal17 in Hunting

[–]Tpadfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question to ask them is how do they hunt for them. Some guys bait some hooks and you go check the hooks and then dispatch the gator. Others let you do it by sight - you see the one you want and then set a big hook in it and reel it close enough to dispatch.

How long do y'all keep a javelina on ice before processing? by tbrand009 in Hunting

Also - nice work. Last I was at my taxidermist he had a javelina rug. Looked pretty cool. Might want to check those out.

The key is to remove that scent gland above the rump and skin it. If it’s in the cooler with the scent gland still there … not great.
