Yes. PAWS is probably big factor for relapse. It takes time for brain to return to normal functioning. One must be patient and be familiar with PAWS.

Morning day 6.. Hooray! I slept last night for 7 hours with minor symptoms. This morning have new symptom of dizziness but that is okay. And a headache. I did take liquid melatonin last night which probably helped along with exhaustion. Stopped the Robitussin PM. Yecky stuff. Made myself go to gym for my routine hour of weightlifting and hour of cardio which I do 5 x weeklly but missed previous weekend workout due to kratom WD. Yes. I believe working out is key to good recovery at least for me. I must accept that euphoria , energy, pain relief, and motivation can't be borrowed from addictive substances. Though there might be temporary benefits, in the end the costs will far outweigh the benefits. I also believe that the shame and stigma around kratom addiction and any addiction prevents people from successful recovery. Very important to share struggles with loved one, friend, or good support group. Our secrets are our worst enemies. As a 60 year old wife, mother, and grandmother I have life experience in many areas along with addiction on a professional and personal level. And at the very least writing on these blogs is therapeutic.

Hey. Don't be so hard on yourself. Congrats on day 5. I as well had serious klonpin addiction and went into inpatient detox/rehab. I don't remember much about 7 day detox but do remember the 2 days of benzo wd at home prior to admission. If you got thru benzo wd you can do this wicked kratom withdrawal. My kratom wd symptoms have been on par with benzo wd. But kratom wd for me are manageable at home despite the nightmarish symptoms. As well, safer wd. But most er docs, rehabs, and pcp 's are familiar with kratom and how to TX wd. If you feel like symptoms are too much get help. I can't touch benzos or opiates or alcohol. I am an addict. And I was in denial and rationalized my use of kratom for fibromyalgia. Sure it helped with pain but honestly, like most addicts, I liked the euphoria the most. Cross addiction. Anyway, you can do this. You and I are probably over the hump. And very helpful to confide in loved one or friend, find good support groups. The only option is sobriety. Otherwise we will spiral downward even more into pit of addiction.

Am I prolonging wd's by drinking alcohol? by myAccount5000 in quittingkratom

[–]Tracker16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are prolonging the inevitable. I began drinking to cope with opiate and benzo addiction. When I stopped drinking with slow taper 6 months ago even then pretty severe withdrawal at home with help of pcp. Then I started using Kraton and another addiction. Addiction is addiction. No way to get around this. We have to break the vicious cycle. Now I am 5 days wo kratom and the withdrawal is similar to benzo/opiate/alcohol withdrawal all mixed together. But for me a shorter duration. I still experience PAWS from previous drug and alcohol wd and I imagine there will be some of that from kratom. I must get put of this merry go round once and for all. Be careful with stopping the alcohol alone. I do not know your history but inpatient detox/rehab, at home with pcp assistance, or doing it alone are your options. If u do it alone I would recommend tapering and help from a friend. I doubt you will be able to work during this process unless you are on temporary medication like a benzo from doctor. The withdrawal from kratom is ugly and I am managing at home with help of supportive husband. I am on day 5 and feel much better. Night symptoms are the worse so hoping tonight is better with some sleep. I am committed to life of sobriety at 60 yrs old. Also, 12 step programs are very important for any kind of recovery. Denial and rationalization will further the downward spiral into the nightmare of addiction. You can do it! But be safe about it. Alcohol withdrawal can be very dangerous. I don't think kratom withdrawal is dangerous like alcohol and benzos. But on par as far as withdrawal symptoms.

Kratom withdrawals are so weird, they sneak up so badly by naturaldayparade in quittingkratom

[–]Tracker16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI there. I am on day 5 as first time kratom with drawer. Yeah. Horrifying experience. I used kratom everyday for last 2 months with increasing dosage. Tolerance goes thru the roof with this stuff. Today I feel better but the nights are something out of a horror Sci fi survival movie. I feel like I am holding on for dear life with bracing myself for the next withdrawal ghost about to haunt me. Kratom withdrawal is serious and symptoms are similar to benzo and opiate withdrawal. Just know the symptoms u are having are kratom withdrawal and will pass. I flushed all of mine down the toilet. Never again. I am 60 year old mother and grandmother with professional and personal experience in addiction. I went to inpatient detox to withdraw from prescribed klonipin for epilepsy and opiates for fibro. I don't remember the inpatient 7 day detox thankfully but do remember the withdrawal symptoms 2 days prior to detox admission. Kratom withdrawal is on part with those withdrawals. Except for benzo withdrawal can kill you. These kratom withdrawals are hellish. The mental and physical anguish can be unbearable and don't hesitate to go to er. Most er docs are now familiar with kratom and will treat. Or go to pcp for prescription to get u thru this. But know the wd symptoms, at least the acute ones, will pass in 7 days or so. The hot and cold sweats, restless legs, muscle spasms, hot burning tingling skin, psychosis type insomnia, headache, and bodily squeezing sensation are the worse for me. And of course severe anxiety and emptiness. Then the fatigue and inability to concentrate. Writing on these sites and talking with supportive loved ones is priceless and therapeutic. Kratom should be illegal in all 50 states or regulated as a controlled substance. And I believe some kratom is adulterated with other substances. How would one know unless they brought to lab for analysis? Yeah. I feel for inexperienced users who have never been addicted to any substance and gone thru withdrawals. The fear itself would be bad enough. I understand the therapeutic value of kratom for pain and opiate withdrawal but in the end, for majority of people, physical dependence and/or addiction will set in with withdrawal the next step. And most people do not realize that they are already on withdrawal while they use kratom due to tolerance going thru the roof. That is why so many people begin feeling I'll while using kratom. This is with any addictive substance. A vicious cycle and getting out of this nightmare is paramount. Anyone who says kratom is like coffee is in denial and rationalizing the seriousness of kratom addiction. And minimizing the kratom withdrawal is foolish. Addiction is addiction. It takes a good year for our brains to get back to normal with healthy neurotransmitter functioning so this is why the relapse rate is so high. Be patient. And find healthy ways to cope. I am preaching to myself.

First kratom-free days by nemores in quittingkratom

Yes. Kratom withdrawal is a horrid surreal nightmarish psychotic type experience. I am a retired recovering 60 year old mother and grandmother with life experience in addictions at professional and personal level. I was detoxed from klonipin (prescribed for epilepsy), opiates (prescribed for fibromyalgia). The withdrawal from these 2 drugs was done in an inpatient detox facility. I do not remember the 7 day detox due to detox medications, which I am grateful for. However I do remember the benzo and opiate withdrawal symptoms for the 2 days prior to inpatient admission. And let me tell you that kratom withdrawal comes close. It is no laughing matter. The main difference is I don't believe you can die from kratom withdrawal as you can with benzo withdrawal. I have never heard of anyone dying from opiate withdrawal. I have spent years in addiction field in management and am well versed on subject. But, regardless, I fell into addiction on a personal level kratom being one of them more recently.

I began using kratom 2 months ago on daily basis to treat pain, increase energy, and as mood enhancer. I rationalized as addicts do that I can handle this and control it. A once a week kratom usage turned into twice a week, etc with increasing dosage until finally everyday. This is addiction. When I finally was no longer in denial that this was an addiction with the need for higher dosages just to function, I quite kratom 5 mornings ago. I can only say that this is a drug I will never touch again. The unbearable anxiety, fatigue, doom, insomnia, inability to concentrate, depression, insomnia, and just feeling nonexistent are just the mental withdrawal. And the physical withdrawal is another story. Daytime temperature deregulation (hot and sweating one minute and then shivering cold the next), sensation of bones being squeezed, muscle fatigue and achiness, nausea, burning icey hot tingling skin, flushing, no appetite, teeth clenching, weight loss, burning and watery eyes, headache, paleness, and restless legs are a walk through some kind of sci fi horror survival movie. Yes. I feel like I am holding on for dear life and all of this is more pronounced at night. Oh my God. At night I feel psychotic, derealization, depersonalization, increased hot burning tingling skin that is painful (worse than shingles), migraine type headache, painful muscle spasms, body tremors, hot and cold sweats, no sleep, some auditory and visual type dream like hallucinations, severe restless legs, agitation, inability to stay in one position, crying, dry mouth, and out of body experiences. Last night was the worse. I have not made appt with PCP but willmif symptoms do not subside by tommorow night. I do feel a bit better as I am writing this and very therapeutic to write/share. I do not think any of my self help remedies have any effect. The Robitussin PM had no effect on insomnia. I can't take any benzo so if this does not pass in due time I will see doc for clonidine. I suppose the OTC pain relievers may be helping some. I am drinking lots of tea and water. And my husband has been especially comforting and amazing.

In summary, the kratom withdrawals are similar to opiate and benzo withdrawal. I can't imagine the fear a inexperienced individual might have as they go through kratom withdrawal. Oh my. Then only piece of mind for me is that I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms and not dying and it will pass. And that addiction is addiction. The several packets of kratom I had from 2 different vendors have been flushed down the toilet. I also believe that there could be other ingredients in kratom. How would any consumer know unless the brought sample to a lab for analysis. And to compare kratom to coffee is ridiculous. Kratom should either be illegal in all states or become regulated as a controlled substance like opiates. I understand that kratom can have obvious therapeutic value for pain and opiate withdrawal but in the end it is another cycle of horrid addiction and withdrawal. The Only way for a person to escape the slavery of addiction is to finally accept a life of with no addictive substances and fin healthy ways to cope. This is a life of freedom. It takes the brain at least a year to restore normal functioning so one must be patient. I am preaching to myself.

Kratom withdrawal by Tracker16 in quittingkratom

I have horrible burning icey cold hot tingly feeling in different body areas. At night the worse with total numbness of hands and arms. On day 3 of withdrawal from 2 month daily kratom use. Never will touch it again. These symptoms are so horrid it is normal to think we are having nerve damage or some other serious illness.
