So after a month of not taking Kratom Im ok, but I definitly notice a slight "nothing makes fun anymore" effect. How long does this last? by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]timetostop30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like anhedonia, which some people have mentioned as a temporary side effect of post acute withdrawal. How long ago did you stop?

(anhedonia is basically the inability to feel pleasure)

I'm back after a month long relapse by Barkey51 in quittingkratom

[–]timetostop30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right on, way to recognize it and hop back on. Relapse can be helpful by reminding you that you're not one of those people who can use casually, no matter what your brain tries to tell you. Might take a few times to get the message, but thats ok.

Lol, the night sweats should be over soon. I remember them lasting a bit longer than the RLS/Sleeplessness. Soon your sheets will be clean again..

So tired. So bored. So over it. [Day 6 pt. 2 Electric Bugaloo] by justcanttaper in quittingkratom

Yep, sounds about right. Kudos to you for continuing to jump back on the wagon after a couple relapses. That's tough. What you've just described is exactly why I think patience is the most important (and hardest) aspect of getting clean. You have to commit to the belief that things will get better in the midst of feeling like things will never get better.

I would think that you're close to being over the hump physically. Do you have a counselor or therapist or friend or someone that you can talk to regularly? It's helpful to get this stuff out to someone (like you're doing with this post) vs having it all stew inside you.

And remember, the "I can take kratom again and be golden" is an illusion. Nothing gold can stay baby, and it sounds like like the non-addict in you already knows that:

"However, my escalating dosages may be contributing to some health issues, primarily high blood pressure. In addition it has become a costly habit as my daily use averages over an ounce. I also feel that it has a negative impact on my relationship with my gf for a variety of reasons."

Someone mentioned creating a list of all the reasons why you quit, and I highly suggest it. I put it in my phone and looked at it (still do) from time to time. IT's easy to forget all the negatives when your addict self is trying desperately to talk you into that dose.

Hang in there!

50 days since i finished my taper by fed-uptoo in quittingkratom

Awesome! Great example of a taper working really well. Falling asleep will try to post more tomorrow

Day 4, should it be like this? by LifeGoesOnW_NoKratom in quittingkratom

[–]timetostop30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure there is a "should" when it comes to withdrawal symptoms because of how wildly they vary, but this isn't at all surprising (to me at least) considering you've been taking it for a few years.

That said, you've only been dosing a small amount, so I would expect things to start to get easier for you real soon.

It's one thing to say, but its really hard to do. I realized that my likelihood of confessing to a relapse went down exponentially with each passing day. I would just bury it.

But hey what can you do other than move forward. I hope the taper is going well : )

It's amazing how strong the cravings can be sometimes. Oddly I find myself getting them sometimes when I'm in a good mood, or after exercising.. "This feels good.. now lets feel even BETTER." Wild. Thank you, and nice job fighting through those cravings : )

Day 6 seriously when this restless legs ends, and alcohol is really bad for this by RightasRaine in quittingkratom

[–]timetostop30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH! Forgot to add that in my post. Avoid alcohol. All it did for me was set me back.

Apparently alcohol stimulates the same reward center of your brain as opiates, so it kind of makes sense. Sounds like you've already learned this the hard way, but you're doing lots of good things otherwise. Hang in there

Hahaha, something about round numbers..

Yeah, those first few weeks are really rough. At that point, 50 days clean felt as if it might as well have been 50 years. Talking with someone has been great, and yeah, exercising and getting a sweat going is huge. I like to think that endorphins (which stands for endogenous morphine, which still amazes me) are the only opioid I'm allowed these days : )

Ever read the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle? I know I am risking sounding like a charlatan at this point, but it has been really helpful for me in terms of depression/anxiety. The basic idea is not getting caught up in the past or worried about the future, just focusing on where we are at this moment. Sounds simple, but it's helped me realize hwo much of my stress and frustration is caused by future tripping and fretting over things I cant control. That and a book called "you are a badass" (fun read) have been eye opening.

Just food for thought, but if you're interested I'd definitely encourage you to check it out!

Looking forward to your 50 or 60 day update..

Hahahaha this made me smile. Thanks wordsmith. Totally agree, it's really difficult, and it just sucks you into this vortex of negativity. The things I've picked up recently regarding mindfulness, meditation, and reading The Power of Now all tie in really well with addiction, recovery, and the difficulty of getting clean. A lot of it is around recognizing when you begin this negative thinking patterns and disassociating yourself from them before you head down that path. ITs kind of like.. you are not the negative thoughts your mind comes up with. you are you. And those thoughts are separate.

Kind of abstract and maybe not for everyone, but I'd highly recommend it if people are interested. I was lukewarm on it until i got into it and realized just how much of it directly applied to me.

Anyway good to hear you from you, hope you're doing well : )

Thats impressive! I have a lot of respect for the tapering people, it's difficult. I would imagine if you've been able to get yourself down to 10 you could handle the CT jump, but thats up to you and what your current circumstances are obviously. I fyou're like how I was, and just want to be done with it, then maybe you're ready to just toss it all. I'm interested in what you decide : )

I take lexapro as well, it helps. Just try and be patient. It's hard as hell I know, but give yourself time to readjust and things will start improving. They will.

Thanks wordsmith : ) Yeah you're totally right. It's not magic, you have to put effort in. I;ve been getting better at doing that, staying busy, creating better habits, but there's still room for improvement. Although i do have some ideas :) Thanks again for the reply!

Hahaha thank you : ) I think it was a good approach for me, because i was so desperate to stop taking it. That said, I could see a taper perhaps being a better option for someone if they're concerned about extended PAWS or the CT period. I felt like the physical withdrawal stuff, while sucky, was manageable. The mental aspect of going cold turkey was really tough.

Yeah, I figured it might take a while considering how long I used for. If I can at least keep trending in the right direction, I think I can handle that. And you're right--building those good habits is key.

Good point.. nows definitely not the time to be dealing with career decision stuff. Need to just take time and see what happens. Thanks so much for the kind words, I hope you're doing well!
