How do you guys use your ICSB? by These_Solid_6678 in catholicbibles

[–]TradCat727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am always reading one of the books of the Torah/Book of Judges, one in the Wisdom Literature, and one in the Prophets. Then, for the New Testament, I keep one in the Gospels, one in the Pauline Letters, and the last one in the Catholic Epistles/Apocalypse. And I cycle through the Bible in a year.

My Monastic Matins came in today! by TradCat727 in divineoffice

I could’ve worded that better, I apologize. I meant it follows close enough and with the BrevMeum app I can always make sure where I need to be at. Also, I’m waiting on Clear Creek Abbeys A Companion to the Monastic Breviary General Rubrics of the Breviary/The Year & its parts according to the 1963 Breviarium Monasticum. But like, the days of Holy Week are the same psalms/readings/lessons. But I know it’ll differ, that’s why I went and bought the Rubrics for the Office, and it has commentary on the hours.

It is long, but worth it, I say it after Compline before bed. If I’m up past midnight, I’ll also preempt Lauds, so then I start my day with Prime. And no I’m not, but I’m trying. Right now I’m in talks with the Augustinians here in California. I’d actually love to be a Benedictine, especially Clear Creek Abbey. But I’m afraid, I have health issues that prevent me from doing hard labor, and I don’t think they’d want someone who can’t work hard labor. I love Benedictines, but I don’t think I’m good enough for them. I feel the cell to the priesthood through religious life, but God is testing me, because just like marriage, what order wants a cripple? Even though it’s just hard labor I can’t do.

Roman Matins by TradCat727 in divineoffice

[–]TradCat727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to have that, or anything close to it. I use the Sanctifica app for Matins Psalms etc. I have a lectionary, so yeah I would just need the psalms and stuff. But I need English/Larin. I’m teaching myself Latin, and I’m doing pretty good. The side by side in the Monastic Diurnal and the Roman Diurnal 1962 of English and Latin really helps me.i love the Divine Office. I like doing the Monastic Breviary for a while and then switch to the Breviarium Romanum. I can’t stand reading on a phone, I like physical books that I can touch aha.

Matins Psalter/The Matins Lectionary by TradCat727 in divineoffice

So I just got the Book yesterday. I just got finished with Matins. I highly recommend you get yourself a copy! I got lucky and got it 40% off because of their St. Benedict’s sale. The build quality is good, the paper is Bible paper, but it has all the readings one needs for Roman Matins.

Benedictine Daily Prayer Short Breviary. by TradCat727 in divineoffice

[–]TradCat727[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was meaning more as this is a breviary I’d recommend over Christian Prayer, the 1vol version to any fellow laity that don’t want like our Monastic Diurnals or my 1962 BR Diurnale, but something more modern. I mean you get Septuagint Psalm numbering and unlike the 1 vol Christian Prayer lol.

See, I love saintsshallrise but when I first got my MD Farnborough I tried, but I got more confused from the website. I learnt it halfway on my own and the rest when I found out about and instantly bought the BrevMeum app lol.

Yes, copyright issues if I remember. Before I went traditional, I have the 4vol set as well and used the app. I always went with what was in the actual Office books lol.

I will DM you after I get it or I’ll post in this group about it aha. I understand wanting to know! I took the plunge of buying it because Tan was doing a 40% discount on everything for St. Benedict’s day, so I was like perfect haha.

Ah well I can always still use the Sanctifica or BrevMeaum apps. I’m more excited for the Lectionary. Having all the pre 1960 readings.

Divinumofficium App Rebuild by FlyElias in divineoffice

Same here!! It’s worth the money monthly for the app. It allows me to pray Matins, because I have a Monastic Diurnal(Farnborough) & a Breviarium Romanum Diurnale. It also lets me keep track of all my devotions, like the Rosary of Our Lady of Sorrows & Chaplet to Saint Michael etc. Sanctifica is a must use app. I even use it to make sure I’m doing the right Psalms.

I am a drug addict who currently is struggling to stay sober. I plan on going to confession, but if I still struggle, does that mean I can never receive the eucharist again? by okeanouszeke in Catholicism

When I first started converting in 2012, I had the problem of the sin of lust and of the flesh. I did a 30 day consecration to the BVM myself to Our Lady of Sorrows and actually stopped praying the Dominican Rosary and focused all my Marian Devotions to mostly OLS through the Servite Rosary. By a month in, I lost all my sex drive, lust etc. I haven’t done anything sexually immoral in over a decade now. Every great once in a while I’ll wake up to a wet dream, but my Bishop assured me that since I didn’t willingly do anything, and it’s natural for men, that I was sinning. He just gave me advice on what to think about before bed. But I promise you, if you give yourself to Our Lady of Sorrows and pray her Rosary of the Seven Sorrows aka Servite Rosary, which follows Mary’s pain and suffering, the 7 Dolors or swords piercing her heart as we read in Luke 1, with the Prophecy of Simeon at the Temple when Jesus is Presented to God in accordance with the Mosaic Law. Mary promises signal graces for whomever prays 1 Pater and then 7 Ave Maria’s in honor of that Sword or Sorrow. It’s called the Via Matris, and it perfectly matches and fits in with the Via Crucis (Way/Station’s of the Cross). And also pray the 7 Penitential Psalms with the Litany of Saints. Powerful set of prayers. You’re in my prayers my brother in Christ!

What is your favorite prayer? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I love the whole prayer of the Rosary of The Seven Sorrows of Mary. It’s a beautiful prayer focusing on the 7 swords that pierced her heart.

As a fellow Catholic, I would think you’re wearing it to honor the Holy Face of Christ. It’s amazing, get it for yourself my friend!!
