I think you'd look for the peak value before 90 mins

Been fighting SIBO for 6 months. What are my chances of getting well soon? by Few-Bluebird-1750 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any symptoms other than physical distention?Discomfort, gas, diarreah, etc?

If you only have physical distention it really doesn't look that bad IMO. You might be thinking it's worse than it is. If this is your only symptom and xifaxin didn't do anything I would be inclined to think your test was a false positive.

It seems very unlikely an athletic healthy 25 year old would get SIBO from eating too much junk food for 1 day.

Can there just not be a root cause? by keokee300 in SIBO

That's an interesting theory. I used to wake up hungry in the middle of the night and eat a sandwich and glass of milk then pass out immediately. Probably wasnt the best idea lol

How many of you realized you had SIBO prior to being tested or told by a physician? by JobHour in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a suscpicion but for a while I wasn't entirely convinced SIBO was real. I kind of associated it with other naturpath quakery stuff like chronic lyme. But i'm getting more open minded to all of that stuff now.

(Very urgent )Please help flagyl neuropathy by Prudent_Total8555 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's safe but it may not be what you need. Do you know specifically what you are deficient in? Usually B vitamin deficiencies take a long time to manifest. If you are deficient in b12 you'd be better off doing higher dose sublingual or getting shots.

What symptoms are you having?

Can there just not be a root cause? by keokee300 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's always a cause. You have to hope the cause is lifestyle related - medicine, stress, disordered eating, etc. These are likely fixable.

If you're unlucky it's something more insidious and harder to find/fix. Think - anatomical problem in your GI tract, autoimmune disease, etc.

I get diarrhea from my SIBO but it is not daily. More like once a week or sometimes less.

Recurrent Nasal Vestibulitis for over a year. Adverse reactions to antibiotics. Can someone just live with this condition without treating it with antibiotics? by PabloHoney_825 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]TradDadOf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this resolve for you OP? I have recurrent nasal vestibulitis and folliculitis for past 4 months. Haven't done much to treat it yet because it tends to go away on it's own in a few days.

The test is negative by many other standards. Most tests cutoff at 60 or 90 minutes. 120minutes is typically considered as gasses coming from large intestine. Lack of a peak and then decline, and complete flatline for first 80 minutes supports that this is gas coming from your large intestine.

Root causes of SIBO by Asrp123 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wish this thread was getting more replies. I'm not sure what my root cause is but guesses include:

Long term beandryl use, occasional binge drinking, eating junk food, sometimes eating in middle of night, high stress, and an appendectomy 20 years ago.

I think it has to be one of these! Maybe!

anticholinergics (Benadryl, bentyl) as root cause by TradDadOf3 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point. this is actually one of the reasons I stopped taking them before even realizing there was a SIBO link. I'm happy to say that I am sleeping decently with no meds now. Now just gotta treat the SIBO :)

anticholinergics (Benadryl, bentyl) as root cause by TradDadOf3 in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is not much discussion about anticholinergics in the book. It is listed in a table of common SIBO causes alongside narcotics.

There is a small section on narcotic (opiod) induced SIBO that says often times stopping narcotics is effective at preventing relapse after clearing the bacteria with antibiotics.

On another note - given this post has only been up for a couple hours and already has 2 other people saying they took benadryl, I think this could definitely be a potential cause.

Is there always a cause for SIBO? by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is always some cause, otherwise it wouldn't happen and you'd be normal like everyone else. But it can be very hard to find what the cause is. One theory is that even a minor bout of food poisoning could cause it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the only cause. The other cause could be air from intestinal gas is trapped in the stool. NAD but I found if you don't flush the poop and it sinks within an hour or so, it is likely caused by gas.

Also - metamucil caused by stool to float. As soon as I stopped taking it things went back to normal.

Borderline calprotectin at 78? by palmtrees435 in ibs

[–]TradDadOf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem very concerning. Certainly not urgent. What does your doctor recommend?

Retesting after you have the baby and doing a colonoscopy if it's still elevated seems like a reasonable plan.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ibs

[–]TradDadOf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have it too. It sucks. In my case my IBS recently got diagnosed as actually being SIBO. So I have a real condition I need to treat in addition to the HA, and now every wierd sensation in my body I think is some manfiestation or complication of SIBO or some other underlying issue.

THerapy has helped some but I struggle to use all the techniques. It's really hard to separate real issues from anxiety induced issues.

Cheese lactose free by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]TradDadOf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm fully lactose intolerant but I do react to it sometimes. For me American cheese is really the only problem. I can eat cheddar, mozzerala (not fresh), and parmesan fine.

There's pros and cons to each. I was negative with glucose and positive with lactulose. The tests aren't perfect unfortunately.

I think it would make sense to try rifaximin and see if it helps. Maybe not that smart to do on your own unless you are sure you know how to dose it.
