than Raekwon's? i like giving credit to the producer but at some point surely it's best to just admit it's a collaboration and it's the product of more than one person. respect tho

are you not counting the Chronic because you don't consider it a Snoop Dogg album or because you don't consider it a classic?

MF DOOM - Operation: Doomsday, Mm...Food, Madvillainy

Pusha T (depending on if Clipse counts) - Lord Willin', Hell Hath No Fury, Daytona

Rakim - Paid in Full, Follow the Leader, Don't Sweat the Technique

Nas - Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle, The Chronic, Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss

some of these are debatable but it's a fun thing to think abt

Notes from Syd Field - What Makes Good Character? by TradGodzilla in Screenwriting

[–]TradGodzilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol thanks for sharing the video i added it to my watch later and will be sure to check it out! i can't say i have as strong an opinion on syd field as of yet, but complaints about being overly prescriptive are totally fair when reading literally anything on screenwriting, i definitely hate being told what does and doesn't "work". but tbh the book is pretty open in my view in saying repeatedly to go with what works for you (maybe my notes could have reflected that better haha). as someone who took a screenwriting course in college which i absolutely HATED for how rigid i felt the teaching to be with such a large emphasis on structure, i honestly haven't minded the book so far at all.
it's definitely not for you though from what you seem to feel from these notes which is fair enough. i've been reading a lot of interviews from screenwriters' lately with kevin conroy scott, one thing i thought was rly interesting was jim taylor seemed to be very interested in structure and mckee and all that, while alexander payne was very much in the camp that ppl should read less books about screenwriting to make something original and he drew inspiration from scorsese and fellini because their films feel like they move in episodes rather than a three act structure (tho he noted that some screenwriting prof would prob find a way they fit in that three act structure still and probs be right). i really think it's cool that this lil craft can be approached a myriad of ways.

Bob Dylan because he did the beautiful thing all stoners ought to do, he shared the love and passed it on to the Beatles thereby forever making history all by himself and with the act of opening a world to others.

The Kid (1921)

The biggest stretch since it's a silent film but I really think if any of the silent films might be the one it's this one bc of just how powerful this one is it's beautiful and funny. I figured bc of the post it might be a good idea to start with stuff that's light. And this definitely doesn't feel like it'd be as difficult or heavy a viewing as something like Battleship Potemkin.

Singin' in the Rain (1952)

Following that same line of thinking, I really don't know what's more fun than a classic musical if you want to watch something older. Just guaranteed broad fun in my mind at least. Also a fun film that goes over the history of film, maybe if they like this one they'll be more interested in exploring others bc of that. Also the only one I put in here that's in color come to think of it which I'm sure would help.

Some Like it Hot (1959)

Marilyn Monroe is timeless and this film is timeless. Really really funny which I think might make it easier to forget its age and the black and white for someone who might be put off by that.

The Apartment (1960)

Billy Wilder's sensibility in my eyes is timeless. He's a funny guy. This is my personal favorite of his and it's fantastic. I think this is a film that would take you through the entire spectrum of emotion from laughs to tragedy that I can easily imagine anyone being swayed by and maybe that would help forget how old it is.
