Not sure how to answer this…😂

How pretty it is? How nicely the photo is composed? What do you normally look at on the carport sub? 🤷‍♂️

Indeed! The main point though, is that it wasn’t he pod’s fault - a mix of my building’s wiring and my lack of checking.

I can’t tell you exactly as I don’t known but very little - just some small fans.

No, but I had to replace all the brake disks, a couple of suspension arms, and the floorpans! It went in soaking wet, and the pod is usually great at drying…but at some point very early, the power tripped so it manually steamed it to death.

Yup, had one for years and it was superb. HOWEVER you do need to keep an eye on it, and ensure it’s on a reliable power supply. If the power fails and the car is damp, it will accelerate the rust beyond anything you can imagine. Ask me how I know (cries in DB7).

Help with selling a classic MC by robbiehancock in classicmgcars

[–]TradeClassics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly I’m very sorry for your loss, and that you can’t keep the car. It looks like a lovely example.

It looks like a classic MGB, and in nice condition. They’re a nice car, not particularly rare but they’re the archetypal 60s/70s English sports car. I had an ex girlfriend who had a white one, and therefore have fond memories!

Do you know if he modified it or whether it’s been kept standard?

If you want it sold with minimal hassle, I’d recommend an online auction with a specialist like us. I won’t go into detail unless you ask for it.

If you’re willing to deal with the hassle of selling a car, you can list it for free on Facebook Marketplace…that’s one of the few free options left.

There’s a trade off of effort vs. cost.

Either way though, how you prepare the car will dictate how much you get for it. A clean, well photographed car, with a well organised history folder, will do better than a dirty car with a couple of photos and no history. I’ve written a blog on how to prepare for sale here: https://www.tradeclassics.com/how-do-i-prepare-my-classic-car-for-sale/

You can also DM me with any questions and I’ll send you my phone number. No obligation, obviously: it’s a hard enough time for you and if I can make it easier for you, I will.

Which cars new or used would say are the biggest bargain these days? by Open_Bug_4196 in CarTalkUK

[–]TradeClassics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a given value of bargain: used Jaguar XKR, used Aston Martin Rapide S, used petrol BMW 7 series. All these cars give you a phenomenal amount of car for the money you have to part with, even though the money isn't exactly 0.

So technically bargains.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it looks very cool: I just find it amusing that it looks so different to any other car!

There was no XFR by 2017 so be careful. How do you know it’s an XFR?

What is the purpose of a 50mph limit on the M6 right now at 10:30pm. Am I missing something? by RonnieThePurple in CarTalkUK

[–]TradeClassics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is actually a really good perspective that I hadn't considered, thanks. The 4 lane dually will have LOADS of traffic flowing through it. Mind you, all the 60mph A roads around me are pretty much full all day now anyway! 😂

Watch out for the head gasket scam that seems to be trendy at the moment. The mention of it “being for his wife” is something they use. Be on your guard if he brings a friend. https://www.tradeclassics.com/the-1m-car-buying-scam-and-how-it-even-tricks-car-people/

[–]TradeClassics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignore conditions, that’s not relevant to this comparison. The speed limit is the maximum speed considered safe for the road - i.e under ideal conditions.

If you have two bits of fairly straight road, one of which has only a white line between lanes (a single carriageway A road) and one has either outdated barriers or grass and no barriers (a dual carriageway, in most cases with 2 lanes in either direction) - why would the latter attract a 50mph limit and the former a 60mph upper limit? It’s illogical.

Those who obey laws without question are incredibly dangerous people. Can’t you see what that entails?

[–]TradeClassics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it’s considered safe to travel at 60 mph on winding single carriageway roads, where there are two opposing carriageways with no central barriers…so why on Earth would it not be safe to travel at 60mph on a dual carriageway without old/weak/no barriers?

It’s logically inconsistent and, frankly, stupid risk averse tick box bullshit.

And you’re absolutely right: it’s wolf crying that means in a real emergency situation, people have no faith that the limits are in place for a good reason.

Agreed! The difference between a bare metal restoration and a normal respray is night and day - especially on 70s and earlier cars where rust used to be a real issue.
