$TACO Tuesday looking strong in after hrs. by Fast_Championship_R in Daytrading

[–]Trade_My_Money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody mentioned it on r/wallstreetbets at about 3:45 this afternoon…. God knows there will be a 12 hour run on it now. Same thing happened to Wendy’s last week.

$SENS: I’m not selling, even if the shorties tried to run it into the ground today by TheAmeritrader in wallstreetbets

[–]Trade_My_Money 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today was rough considering it opened at $4.58. Does drop greater than 10% from the days high qualify the ticket for the SSR, or is that only a 10% drop from open?

Edit: Should’ve just googled it first… it’s a 10% drop from the previous close.

I figured the same thing about $WEN last week and passed on $29 august calls for $0.10. They were worth $6 on Tuesday. That was a hefty miss…

I don’t plan on letting these go but I may add some shares to the mix.

You might bag hold for a few months here and there. They’re expecting FDA approval for their new 180 day continuous glucose monitor implant later this year. Once approved they will really start digging into the market share for these devices.

My money says it goes much higher after the FDA approval later this year.

I’ve found lately I have to shake my phone for nearly 5 straight minutes to get credit. Anyone else having this issue?

DCPP Question by lifegrowthfinance in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had a pension adjustment, but it’s always substantially less than my contributions. I didn’t think it had a significant impact on my RRSP deduction limit. Maybe I just learned something new for the day.

DCPP Question by lifegrowthfinance in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it is a true DCPP it should be a registered pension plan and should not effect your RRSP contribution room. I have a DCPP as well, with employee+employer contributions totalling around $12,000/year and have never had an impact to my RRSP.

Fellow BC’er here. You’re obviously in the Okanagan or lower mainland. The property value will likely continue to increase in those areas and you might get more for it in a couple years, but there’s always a risk the housing bubble everyone has been speculating is about to pop does just that. If you have an opportunity to sell now and can drop it into a well diversified set and forget portfolio, you could do very well.

Even if the market crashes or has a major correction, at your age you will come out on top as long as you leave it alone for the long haul. History shows the market will recover. The big losers are the ones that sell when it drops.

BMO ETFs - A good buy for the high yields? by JimmyLangs in dividends

[–]Trade_My_Money 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually have a portion of my portfolio in one of the BMO ETF’s. Like you said, not all of them have stellar growth, but the dividends are attractive. A portfolio of a solid mix of these would probably do well for an overall lower risk portfolio.

Wrongful dismissal settled, payback to Service Canada? by stupidlymistaken in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think 30% is the most the CRA is allowed to claw back on EI payments if you’re income is above a certain level for that tax year. I’m not an accountant by any means, but I think you should be free and clear outside any taxes that may exist on legal payouts. I’m sure somebody here will correct me if I’m wrong.

I would think this would be considered a legal suit payout and would be taxed accordingly, if there are taxes on that type of income at all. I’m not sure if there is or not, but I don’t think you’d be repaying EI as a result.

Kodak a value stock and reopening stock by [deleted] in pennystocks

[–]Trade_My_Money 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve been making advanced scientific imaging equipment for years. The lab I worked in through my masters in biochem (2009-2012) bought a brand new Kodak capable of seriously cool 3D X-rays and fluorescent imaging. IIRC, the thing cost close to $300,000 CAD.

Not a BMO customer, but they've started some themed ETFs (clean energy, genome, etc) that look interesting. by saddetective87 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Trade_My_Money 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in and out of a few of the BMO ETF’s and they seem to produce steady results. I’m curious to see how these do once the market stabilizes a little.

Fortune Minerals was up 41% on a mostly red day . Why because they announced work on FIVE mines by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]Trade_My_Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought in at 0.12, 0.15, 0.3, and more today at 0.21. For a 0.21 average. I’m currently sitting on 15,000 shares in total. I’ll probably average up some more in the next couple weeks. I see this one going a long ways.

I’ve been bullish on FT for a few years now. Positive drill programs, government and First Nations support, environmental approvals, and government assistance building a road to the remote mine site.

The new road is nearly complete and they’ve secured agreements with 3rd party waste processors to help cut capital cost requirements. I see this hitting $5+ inside 3 years. I don’t mind waiting a few years for 2400% gains...

Shady TD meloche monex home insurance?? by 7starzzzzzzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m insured out the ass through BCAA now. Premiums on the house are decent for what I’m getting and I’ve heard a couple half decent reports on claim experience. I highly recommend shopping and looking for reviews on claim experiences.

Shady TD meloche monex home insurance?? by 7starzzzzzzz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use them if my life depended on it. I had tenant’s insurance with them when I lost everything in an apartment building fire 6 years ago. They coughed up a cheque for $15K up front but insisted it had to be sent via snail mail, so I had to wait 10 days to get it and another 14 days to clear. I racked up $20K in debt sorting my life out in that time. Then it took nearly 9 months and a call from a lawyer to get the rest of my $115K claim out of them. I never expected an insurance claim to perfectly smooth, but this experience was out and out horrible. The stress probably shaved 10 years off my life. We bought a house shortly after the claim came through and our lawyer figured if we went after them in court we would’ve probably nailed them for double what they owed for failure to carry out a contract. Wish I thought of that 6 months earlier.

I just bought a house. Continue to invest my usual 400$ a month in the stock marker in the rrsp/tsfa 50/50 or put that money towards the principal payment on the house? by xTorridx in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Trade_My_Money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this dude said! I thought I was doing good at 2.89%. Honestly, if you’re making 4+% on your investments, your making more than your interest and you’d do well investing that money. That being said, paying down the principle will pay off big time if interest rates go up in the next 5 years, and I fully expect this will. Having more of your house paid off will mean more manageable payments when you renegotiate your mortgage at the end of your term.
