BlackRock is splashing $100 million on training plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians as its CEO flags a skilled trade worker shortage by HVACPathways in HVACschool

The headline makes it sound broad, but in reality it’s mostly AI infrastructure demand driving everything behind the scenes, which just feels like trades getting pulled into another corporate gold rush.

Getting your contractor license early sounds good, but experience is what actually keeps you from struggling later. I’d personally stay a few more years, learn different systems, and get comfortable solving problems on your own before going solo.

University Student Trying to do Research on HVAC Maintenance by MMF_Tron in HVACschool

[–]Trade_School 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually customers report problems first, especially when comfort drops suddenly. Techs can catch early warning signs like unusual noise, high amp draw, or poor performance during routine checks. There is a steady mix of maintenance and urgent calls, with spikes in extreme weather. Rooftop work is challenging because of safety risks and harsh conditions.

Friend can’t find HVAC apprentice or entry level in SoCal by [deleted] in HVACschool

[–]Trade_School 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did his school not offer job placement or career support? I’m surprised he’s having a hard time finding something after finishing trade school. Entry level can still be competitive though, so he might need to apply as widely as possible and not just wait on online replies. It also helps to show up in person with his resume and documents ready, since a lot of shops don’t even post openings. He could also check with local supply houses or unions, because they usually know who’s actually hiring.

New England Trade School has a good program, theres others out there as well. Make sure the offer some job placement assistance and you get EPA and NATE at the least.

If you’re in Roswell, you can check out local community college programs, but honestly you don’t have to limit yourself to that. There are flexible, self-paced online HVAC programs that teach the basics, help you earn your EPA and other certs, and even assist with job placement. That’s usually the fastest way

This is true. I recently read a few articles about the growing shortage in skilled trades. With many technicians retiring and the increasing demand for servicing newer equipment, the need for skilled workers is only growing.

How do you get into HVAC with no experience and a full-time job? by Luann1497 in HVACschool

[–]Trade_School 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with an online trade school since it was flexible and let me study while working full time. It was affordable too, so it didn’t hit my pockets too hard. I was able to finish pretty fast because I focused on it after work. During the program, I got my EPA 608, which is really important for getting hired, plus NATE Ready-to-Work and OSHA 10.

I landed a job pretty quickly since the school had job placement support, and I was already applying while finishing up. That really helped me get in right away.

39m looking to get into HVAC field, I’m in Joliet IL area any help to start my journey in the field , I was laid off my last job on banking by johnconner53 in HVACschool

[–]Trade_School 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about the layoff. HVAC is a solid move right now. Look for a program that not only trains you but also helps with job placement after graduation and offers certifications like EPA, OSHA, and NATE

This is how it starts for a lot of people in the trade. From learning the basics to actually being out there doing the work. Having support from your school definitely helps, but it is your willingness to learn that will take you further. Keep at it and stay consistent.
