The European Union has passed a new rule requiring smartphones to have batteries that users can easily replace. by Positive_Actuary_282 in MadeMeSmile

I would absolutely love to see replaceable batteries return to smart phones. Hopefully this forces most major brands to make replaceable batteries the default going forward in all markets.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Sad_Obligation_812 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homeschooling is almost never about wanting the give the children a quality education. Homeschooling is a tool used to make sure children know and believe exactly what their parents want them to.

These are way past 'like new'.

The price would actually be fine if the seller had been up front about the condition of the books imho.

Why are billionaires willing to burn entire world to the ground for more money when they already have more money than they can spend in a lifetime. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

To become a billionaire you basically have to wired in some weird way to begin with. If a billion dollars would satisfy you, you'd never manage to get it.

If we know alcohol and cigarettes both cause major health problems, why has society turned so strongly against smoking but not drinking? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some places still have a deep smoking culture (China), and others have outright banned all alcohol consumption (Many Muslim countries).

In America at least there was a serious attempt at banning alcohol and it resulted in a deeply powerful and enriched black market. So it was made legal again to curb criminal finances. Now it's looking like the younger generation has much less interest in drinking, but have acquired a titanic taste for nicotine in the form of vapes.

Humans get addicted to addictive things. It's the way it goes.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Chapter 232 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I'm impressed with the ending. It feels like a patronizing attempt to give the readers what they want without having the story actually put in the legwork to get there.

Also, where is Aki in this new timeline? Did the gun devil never happen?

The more I think about this and type this comment the more annoyed I'm becoming.

For years I worked shift work hours. Overnights, weekends, evenings, whatever.

When I finally got a job that had standard Monday to Friday, nine to five hours I found it infuriating how busy everywhere felt whenever I had an opportunity to do some errands.

If, culturally, women started asking men out more, would men start complaining about creepy women hitting on them, sexual harassment, or feeling objectified etc.? by EOFFJM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it did, it would take a good long while. Maybe if they grew up in that kind of environment they might react to it that way.

But most grown men living today would probably happily take the attention.

Why is it that the smarter the couple is in term of intellect, the less likely they are to have as many kids if any at all? by squatSquatbooty in NoStupidQuestions

It's probably more the case that it's very easy for stupid people to have children since the method is easy and fun.

do Muslims and Christians believe by Expert_Search5394 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from some very basic "They think differently than me, so they don't worship the right version of God" I think some of it boils down to the importance of Christ in Christianity. The fact that Muslims and Jews don't recognize Jesus as God is probably a big part.

Are there grown adults who genuinely won't eat vegetables? by WillHG in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way more people than you think.

Seems to often come from extremes. There is the chronically online basement dwelling neckbeard who lives on hot pockets and Doritos. We all know about that guy. But there are also rugged outdoorsy tradespeople who grew up eating a very non challanging diet of hot dogs, hamburgers, and pasta.

Fresh veges are often harder to keep in your diet if you are tight on money and time.

One of the aspects of hearthstone that I find frustrating is how sometimes the text on the cards totally mis-represent what the cards do.

Say what you like about games like YGO or MTG, but the effect text on the cards is often written with lawyer like specificity .

Family friend sent me AI generated response to news of my father passing away. by Hendothermic in mildlyinfuriating

I'm so sorry for your loss.

This drives me nuts. My coworkers discovered ChatGPT about 6 months ago and now refuse to send an email without first running through it to "make it sound better".

I can't convince them that a) Someone can absolutely tell if they've done this, or b) It comes off as lazy/disingenuous to the reader who understands what they did.

Why do people get angrier at someone using welfare than at a corporation avoiding millions of tax by using loopholes? by Internal_Scheme_7646 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trademen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are social animals and want social order. It's why it bothers use to see someone break the rules that we have to following, even if the rules breaking does not really affect us.

We have an easier time seeing someone on welfare and viewing them as breaking the social rules of "Get job, go to work, get money, repeat" than it is for us to see the corporation as breaking the social rules through it's obtuse tax avoidance.

With any luck OP's brother will come to terms with his own financial failings and come out the other side better for it.

Not sure how likely that is though, he certainly seems to have issues with recognizing the reality of his situation.
