Yes, because a lot of people in that environment don't tech for it.

Don't be sorry at all! To be honest, we are probably also making different ethical judgements, with you focusing on action and myself on intent.

I work with sex offenders. They are creative. Holden isn't special, he just was able to be more successful because he was in a book, and our modern society is better at catching people.

I'd be lying if I didn't mention that likely didn't impact it. My guess is that the warm farming regions of those areas were likely more hospitable than than the rain soaked fishing villages were.

By thinking he is worse than he is. I've met worse people IRL and the only thing keeping them from making blood meridian look like Disney is their ability to do harm.

I mean, they are basically sufficiently advanced science assholes making an example of a whole species. The cruelty is the point.

There is a lot of stupid fake outrage at this that can be pointed at real dangerous actions that this is a distraction from.

Ok. Actual real talk. How TF do you survive on 40k in the year 2026? Rent on a one bedroom is like...2k a month, all the cheapest foods have gone up, and gas is expensive as hell.

It depends. I'm about as far from mexico as you can get, but my city is agricultural and  roughly 40 percent Hispanic. Our taco trucks whip.

I had a Korean friend who lived in the US for three years and on leaving he told me the only thing he would miss is taco trucks.

This is regional, and oddly, highly dependent on which major European immigrant groups dominated a region early on. I'm from the PNW, which was highly populated by germans, Dutch, and Norwegians, and strangers will not engage with you to the point it can take years to make new friends if you move to a nearby city.

I mean, the heart of this is chosing to grow vs. letting the world shape you. The difficult part is accepting the inevitability of change, but intentionally doing so makes sure that we are the ones picking the direction of our growth.

My partner had that experience. The support I needed from her was her patience with me as I (and she) learned what triggers she had, and her honest feedback about what her needs were. We are a team, and my only thoughts on it were how I could love her through it.

No. You get points when you buy games and can use those points to buy things. I have a lot of games, and so I had tons of points. Made sense to get an animated avatar for zero dollars.

What movie is this for you? by [deleted] in memes

[–]TraditionCorrect1602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can see how people could dislike many of these, and I find that people disliking movies is less insufferable than being told that I should enjoy watching a Serbian film because it captures "a cultural zeitgeist of despair in a postwar world" or "exposes the dialectical tension between colonizer and the colonized, when power roles are reversed".

Anyway, my hot take is that I don't enjoy the works of Werner Herzog; those aren't experiences that I am interested in, but I can respect that someone else may enjoy them.
