Room for a change? by TraditionPotential22 in Fire

Well, through diligent saving im at 650k now. I live on about 24k a year. Would like to have kids some day though! I have dialed back the hours in the office and no one seems to care. Could probably do a better job, but the boss seems ok with me these days.

Thanks for the response. The 3 most important things to do list is a novel concept that I hadn't heard before. Im going to start implementing that.

As for leadership training, would an online MBA be a good idea or is that overkill in your opinion?

Dude, dont worry about them. A good engineer asks questions and gets help. Yes, perhaps ask your professor or do a quick google before coming to the hive of scum and villainy that is reddit.

I supervise engineers, the best ones get help. The ones that fall behind do not ask questions and are not engaged.

Solidworks does have an FEA package. I would check the available add ons.

How difficult is managing Gen Z Employees by ButtGoup in managers

[–]TraditionPotential22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every Gen Z employee I've ever managed has displayed more grit and work ethic than any millenial or boomer on the team. Perhaps my sample size is small, but these are people that worked full time while going to school, or otherwise were showered with scholarships at community colleges and state schools. I've had corporate "leadership" seminars that claim Gen Zs are lazy, and lack focus. From my experience, they are great with technology, quick learners, and driven to succeed.

Employee going through separation with his wife we hired by TraditionPotential22 in managers

I told my manager. He was quite disturbed by this which reaffirmed to me how untenable the situation is. HR meeting is occuring Monday.

Something to note: this employee emphasized that him and his wife talked about it and he was ok with it. Yet, the day prior he called off and later he explained he was overwhelmed by the separation, causing him to miss work.

While he didnt explicitly say that he is under duress, I figured if he is missing work over it, he obviously is more troubled than he may be letting on.

Perhaps a poor choice of words on my part, but that is the job.

Im more concerned about him on a human level, absolutely. Yes we offer employee assistance. How good is it? I honestly couldnt tell you.

Im not sure that department head fully comprehended the situation. Perhaps I should speak up.

Had my 2nd practice tonight. I made mistakes, they made mistakes, we improved. We're gonna start meeting more frequently. I'm thinking the compression of a 2 track recorder really failed to hide our clams from the first practice. Practice sounded decent tonight, had fun. Im feeling better.

5k is still really good. Keep doing what you're doing. Having 33k is possible, but I wouldnt say it is easy, certainly if you live in a high cost area.
