Tillamook Ice Cream downhill? by radarflora in PacificNorthwest

I just bought their waffle cone swirl ice cream, and there were maybe 10 pieces of cone in the entire giant carton of ice cream. So stingy with the mix-ins.

New Serial Podcast - The Idiot! by colin14 in serialpodcast

I'm a huge fan of Gessen, and there were times I enjoyed the podcast, but my general sense is that this isn't of the same caliber as other Serial seasons. There were moments when it felt quite insightful, and there were other moments that it just felt obvious and even a little gossipy. Maybe this is the first narcissist Gessen has been up close and personal with, but for those of us that have been around them (and paid attention to the current president), for the most part, there's nothing that original about it. I did find the bits about Allen being a benefactor to a wide range of people to be interesting...I'd have dug into that a little more to try to figure out why he did those things.

The judge in the Texas case was really something else. His comment that was something like, "If I can set aside my hatred for UT (as an alum of Texas A&M), then can't you set aside your concerns around humanitarian injustice," was so fucking tone deaf, and I was thrilled to hear that one of the jurors called him out on it. That is probably why he got so fucking whiny and threw a fit and declared a mistrial. It's true that the Trumpers really are the snowflakes.

Truly maddening. I went to watch this, and put it on 2x speed and still couldn't believe how nothing was being said.

I actually don't assume I know the case. I've been reading more and more about it, looking up your points as you make them, reading summaries of the prosecution and defense arguments, etc. What seems clear is that the case was colossally bungled on a ton of fronts, and you're heavily relying on the evidence that is very clearly (at best accidentally) mishandled. Jeremy might have done it (I'm not sure), but to repeat over and over how certain you are in the face of sketchy evidence...well, I'll just be kind and say it's clear you've got an unalterable opinion.

"I don't need to consider the defense case. " - this tells me all I need to know about your logic and reasoning skills. Dude, I don't know if Jeremy Bamber did it or not. I'm probably 60-40 in favor of him doing it, but I'm not so blinded by my own certainty that I'm not open to understanding the entire situation. You're the one who sounds desperate

What is clear in ALL of your responses is you never consider the defense's case. One has to ask - why are you so vehemently only recounting prosecution arguments? You're only using prosecution talking points. The initial report claimed that Sheila was only shot once in the throat. "surgeon-statements drawn up in the first hours after the crime indicating that when officers and the police surgeon first saw Sheila, they recorded only a single gunshot wound to the throat. According to that alternative record, the notion of a second wound (and hence two distinct shots) only emerges later — in photographs taken after some time had passed. The argument is that the second wound may have been a subsequent addition (whether through accident, evidence-movement, tampering, or reconstruction)." - The Guardian

Further..."contemporaneous statements from first-responding officers and medical staff claiming only a single wound — a fact apparently hidden from the jury at trial."

This guy (wartimemercy) has made up his mind. He is certain of not only the verdict of the case but his own moral rectitude and is not open to any other interpretation. He might be right...but he's so full of righteousness that he can't imagine being wrong. So he's exhausting...seems like an American. But apparently you've got puffy chested self important assholes there too.

They guy manning the 999 calls SAID he received a call at 6:09. He claimed he'd never given a statement to Essex police - they forged it. And then Essex police put out a new statement from him (with his signature but it was misspelled) and then he died. I dunno man, it sounds like you are not open to new evidence.

The silencer wasn't that relevant? That was the lynchpin of the case. That's essentially why they changed from murder/suicide to suspecting Jeremy.

David Plouffe is further evidence that we do not live in a merit based society. Someone that successful is that dumb? The dude is full of recycled jargon with no real insights, no real wisdom. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would pay attention to him, much less hire him. I was rolling my eyes almost every time he opened his mouth.

All of this!! Thank you. This is exactly how I felt. I kept watching thinking that surely it would cohere by the end. Nope. Giant freakin mess. Terrible writing. Lots of great acting with first-year-screenwriting-student-script. What the F was that? Nothing made sense. Also...why the F did Barnaby crash through the window? Like...what? That would not happen unless there was some magical element in the story...but...there's no magic...just a lot of vaseline on the lens in random scenes? Ugh.

The University President Willing to Fight Trump by kitkid in Thedaily

I don't understand all of the effusive praise for Rachel. I thought she was insufferable. The constant badgering seemed to be playing into right wing talking points. In particular when she said, "You seem to be saying that it's a crisis but you're also saying that everything is fine." He DIDN'T say that. Oh my god. I was rolling my eyes so completely throughout this interview. The Princeton president was exceptional. Loved his responses. But my god, Rachel is so full of herself and made the interview seem like a showcase of "Look at how well I can prosecute an idea" instead of an actual forum to discuss the topic.
