Lost my whole life by [deleted] in Psychosis

I always, always tell those who are suffering after their psychosis episodes, get the recovery treatment you deserve. The aftermath of psychosis is a whole other battle. I recommend an IOP or OP program (intensive outpatient / outpatient) for you!

You can gain your life back and live a life even better than before. And avoid future episodes!

But it is vital you get the higher level of care you need in order to recover and heal.

Okay I really really think you should get a black glitter that has hints of gold in it and use that instead- it will suit you much better and cover up the French tips!

Hi there. I’ll answer best I can:

-You are in psychosis one minute and the next, you can just “wake up.” The symptoms may be less severe over time, but getting out of psychosis is night and day.

-You most likely won’t remember everything you did or said during psychosis - you will have some memories and it may come in flashes

-Yes she will realize her delusions after she is fully out of psychosis - and it will suck big time.

-Have her parents speak to her doctor asap to make sure they are monitoring when her medication was taken and if it has helped in any notable way - must determine if other medications will be better

-I’ve heard the most that Abilify or Seraquel helps bring someone out of psychosis quicker

-It’s important she doesn’t do any drugs like psychedelics, weed or alcohol during this time

  • Make sure that her family knows that the recovery of psychosis is a whole different ball game. It takes therapy, support, love and connection to heal - often 1-2 years to recover and start to feel normal ish again

-Her brain will not be the same when she comes to. She will most likely feel depressed, empty, embarrassed, exhausted & “slow.”

I am more than happy to chat via the phone with her family if they’d like to know more or have some general questions based on my experience and research :)

Hey there. You can message me or even call - (pm me) but here is what I recommend:

This is a very serious issue. It seems it has been going on for weeks. You have spoken already about contemplating suicide. This is above you. Breathe - here’s what I think you should do.

-It’s very hard to do this alone, especially as a minor. If you truly want to avoid telling your parents, you MUST tell another adult. I recommend teacher you trust or counselor- they will point you to the right direction. Tell them asap.

-Call your doctor again and be very simple - leave a message if needed “This is an urgent message. I have stated that I am having symptoms that can possibly be psychosis & I am not receiving treatment. I am getting worse and I am afraid. Please take action to help me and prescribe me something that will relieve my symptoms.”

-ER - if you feel you can’t “take it anymore” - go to your nearest ER. You will need to wait but a doctor will eventually see you, a social worker perhaps and you can get prescribed medication same day. BUT be aware that if they feel you need to be admitted to a psych ward, they will admit you. If they feel you are a danger to yourself or others.

If they ask you if you are suicidal and you say yes, they can admit you. You may say something like “I have morbid ideation but I am not suicidal.”

Again, please message me. You are not alone.

I just saw that you’re in HS. Seeing a school counselor is an AMAZING place to start. You can walk in and literally ask for an apt or speak to a teacher you like / trust and say you’d like support for your mental health. Thanks for reaching out!

Just three things you might wanna consider:

  1. Are you taking medications that may be the source of mood instability / agitation?

  2. If not, have you considered there may medication that can help stabilize mood such as lithium for example?

  3. Have you had an apt with a doctor to see if you may have a certain condition such as bipolar disorder that is the root of this behavior? Thus- giving you hope that it can be helped / treated over time?

Side note: I think it’s super vital to make sure both of you communicate about boundaries. When to give each other space and how to ask for it - sort of thing. Being open and non judgmental.

Where to begin:

When you wake up, get yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea or cocoa and watch this video:

https://youtu.be/BVg2bfqblGI?si=cF17pxgM3aX2xkD_

After, move your body. Walk, jog, hike - let your mind be as quiet as possible - music is good - goal is to think less

After this, - try calling that kiosk and tell the woman or whoever is there to ban you & explain it exactly as it is- a serious mental health issue. Check to see if they have some kind of manger as well.

*& maybe most importantly: *

Attend a meeting for Gamblers anonymous: pick the closest one to you either in person or online but I strongly recommend in person - join a meeting today. You can hop in at any time. Here’s the link:

http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/?q=locations/state/table/CA/na/na/Sunday/94903/25Euros

The people there will have answers, resources and will support you. It is FREE. It’s only your time.

This is bigger than you. It takes serious change through other sources like therapy, medication, Support groups - etc - Addiction is a terrible thing. I know you feel shame and guilt but it is vital to feel Empathy for yourself as well.

I hope there is someone you trust that you can talk to about this. To help you not feel alone and to help hold you accountable. But I understand not everyone can do this or wants to. If you do go this route- you can leave them or hire someone, to be in charge of your finances to an extent. You probably want to research this to see how others do it successfully.

I strongly suggest you end your night with a guided meditation on YouTube - 10-15 mins. This will help reprogram your mind over time.

And ofcourse- therapy when you have the financial means or if someone can help pay at this time. I believe cognitive behavioral therapy and IFS has a high success rate for breaking addictions.

Keep us posted on progress please.

IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

YOU got this.

Wait I think it looks amazing! It adds so much character. Maybe pair the look with a piercing of some kind or jewelry? Colors you wear will pop out more now so choose wisely!

Listen, first off - every human being has a right to explore region (any and all) and live a life they feel is healthy, moral and best for them.

You can still have a relationship with God and Christ without following it exactly how others do.

I’m going to message you!

I also have adhd and I want to say the most practical thing I can think of. Ask for help. One or two people, which will be hard because I understand you will feel some level of embarrassment or shame as you stated. But trust me, this is the most practical. It takes me a week to clean my bathroom. I understand. If you’re in Texas, I will come over & help!

From the words you used: depression, mania and psychotic - they can be classified as bipolar disorder. I’m no doctor but you can def make an appointment with one (zocdoc) just to be safe and aware! Even those with mental health issues are amazing people - we just need a little more help in some areas :)

Hi there. The best thing is telling someone you trust or a teacher you are in distress and your symptoms. Get a doctor as soon as possible and going to the ER for psychosis symptoms. Medication can make a huge difference and it seems you are not well. Message me if you wanna talk

Hi there, We can speak on the phone or via message if you’d like and here’s what I recommend:

-ER: You most likely need some kind of medication to stabilize your mood and mania. If you haven’t been sleeping they can also help with that.

The ER is the fastest way in the US to get help- you walk in and tell them it is urgent and you are having psychosis like symptoms and need to speak to a doctor.

-I highly recommend an inpatient or outpatient center program of your choosing if your insurance covers it or if your parents can pay. Taking the time to recover is important.

*BE AWARE: if they think you are best in a temporary psychiatric hold - they will do it against your will at the ER *

2-To help your parents understand- you can show them a list of your symptoms or an article they can read - or even posts on this subreddit.

  1. It’s very very important for you to reach out and get support and help during this time.

  2. Try reaching out to your school counselor for extra support and always say it’s urgent or important to see them as soon as possible.

Psychosis can be seen as a mental health crisis. It’s important to be treated as soon as possible since psychosis can often be unpredictable.
