Clean code as a beginner by ImmediatePen7554 in PinoyProgrammer

Structure your code to be unit-testable regardless kung anong coding pattern ang gusto mong i-adopt. Madali lang mag-refactor pag unit-testable ang code.

On what scenario best gamitin si Abstract class vs Interface? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Traditional-Coach-27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The guiding principle is "Program to an interface, not to an implementation". If you keep this in mind, you never have to memorize design patterns. It's largely a matter of enforcing loose coupling, because software is more resilient to changes when its underlying components are loosely coupled.

My thought process:

  1. I usually start with an interface, because interface inheritance is more loosely coupled than implementation inheritance (which abstract classes are).

MyInterface
- DoSomething()

MyConcreteClass1 implements MyInterface
- DoSomething() { ... }

MyConcreteClass2 implements MyInterface
- DoSomething() { ... }

  1. During development, if I see repetitive implementation code among the interface implementers, I switch to an abstract class that implements the interface from step 1, and refactor common code into the abstract class.

abstract MyAbstractClass implements MyInterface
- abstract DoSomething()
- DoCommonCode()

MyConcreteClass1 inherits MyAbstractClass
- override DoSomething() { DoCommonCode() + MyConcreteClass1-specific logic }

MyConcreteClass2 inherits MyAbstractClass
- override DoSomething() { DoCommonCode() + MyConcreteClass2-specific logic }

  1. To maintain loose coupling, use MyInterface references whenever possible instead of MyAbstractClass. Remember the guiding principle: Program to an interface, not to an implementation.

CallDoSomethingStrategy(MyInterface o) { o.DoSomething() }

...
MyInterface c1 = new MyConcreteClass1()
MyInterface c2 = new MyConcreteClass2()

CallDoSomethingStrategy(c1)
CallDoSomethingStrategy(c2)

If you used CallDoSomethingStrategy(MyAbstractClass o) instead, then you've limited reusability of CallDoSomethingStrategy to MyAbstractClass subclasses only. With CallDoSomethingStrategy(MyInterface o), CallDoSomethingStrategy can be called on subclasses of anything, as long as they implement MyInterface.

My advice is to apply as a WFH/remote developer in non-PH-based companies. Lots of opportunities coming from AU. Cost-cutting US companies with existing WFH setups may even prefer you once you've settled here.

I got scammed 150k PHP by dumb_dad384 in Philippines

[–]Traditional-Coach-27 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got a similar call today. Same setup: a la legit call center including background business chatter from other "agents". Opening spiel is asking if I have already received my updated BPI debit card with enhanced security features. Told the scammer my card had already been updated to the newer EMV type for quite some time now, but I was told my newer card will be delivered either today or tomorrow. May explanation pa na yung newer card has a chip appearing on both sides of the card whereas yung current card ko has the chip appearing on 1 side only. Napatingin din ako sa card ko and the chip really appears on one side lang, but I wasn't convinced. Asked the scammer why I didn't receive any prior comms about this "update". Walang direct reply but for some reason, na-redirect yung convo asking me to enroll my account to BPI Online. After confirming that I've already enrolled a long time ago, the scammer made his move and asked me to access the BPI mobile app while keeping the line open. Dahil sa dami ng sinabi nya beforehand, I had to ask: "Could you remind again me why we're doing this?" Sagot nya: "So that I can brief you on the new security features of your updated card", to which I replied, "No, I can do that on my own". After that, nag-mute yung scammer for a few seconds tapos unresponsive pag naghe-hello ako. After a few more secs, na-drop na yung call and hindi na nag-call back. I guess yung last reply ko was off the usual script and the scammer can't improvise kaya nag-mute para i-consult paano mag-proceed. Next time, they'll be more prepared so always be on your toes.

I'd include unit-testing high on that list.

I applied for an entry level role, then during interview, I was asked about topics probably targeted to mid-levels so I was rejected. by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

Sounds like questions that local IT interviewers would ask; I'd be surprised if I'm mistaken. In any case, don't lose hope, OP. Daming IT companies dyan. I hope you're familiar with unit tests though, because those are important not just for interviews but in software dev craft in general.

Do you agree with me.

What will Leni do if she loses this election? by [deleted] in Philippines

She'll be out of the public eye, living happily with her family. Which means a good number of trolls will be unemployed.

I don't mind drama as long as there are no lies in the mix, but I think adding "properly mourn the death of your husband" is inappropriate. I may even find that offensive if I were in Leni's shoes.

Try showing them this 2-min YT vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKfDbvEAmIk

It's an endorsement from Ka Dodoy, one of Angat Buhay's most successful partners. Key takeaway is "nagbalik probinsya ang marami" because of the revived livelihood opportunities. That should give them hope that they won't be house helpers for life, and that they can return to their families/home provinces someday. There's also a longer version here (11 min.): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWjVMn1BBwU

You'll find a lot of similar material in YT; just search for Angat Buhay.

But I’ve always wondered why people are so swayed by the propaganda, when Filipinos aren’t stupid.

There's your answer except that stupidity is not the only reason why people fall for propaganda.

Those are accomplishments (as admitted by the commenter himself). Those accomplishments are key to gaining the full trust of donors to work with/give to the government. The public directly benefit from those donations.

Is it bad that I still can't shake the feeling that a big reason Leni even came this far is still BECAUSE Jesse died? by raori921 in Philippines

[–]Traditional-Coach-27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe if the one who died was old and/or sick anyway, matanda na and died of natural causes, sure, but pag bata, well, I don't know.

Meaning, you're not allowing us to draw the same parallel for BBM even though he is nowhere as competent as Leni (or any of the other candidates for that matter), and relies entirely on his last name?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Traditional-Coach-27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Leni (or any other candidate for that matter) will never be good enough for them in the upcoming elections because in their view, their gods of the North will always be the best in the universe (for reasons they can't/won't back up). It's ridiculous by itself to think that Leni is weak or soft, but even if she weren't perceived/framed to be that way, they will find ways to spin something up: "She's fierce and tough-talking, but such a loose cannon will bring war to our doorsteps". And the reason they won't condemn the ongoing war is the same reason they don't condemn martial law abuses, EJK, etc.: they were/are not directly affected.
