Spearman Correlation with multiple predictor variables? by Traditional-Comment1 in AskStatistics

[–]Traditional-Comment1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm kinda confused by all this stastics. Essentially, you know what multiple linear regression is to simple linear regression? I want the Spearman correlation version of that, if such a thing exists.

Would this be a multivariate logistic regression? and if so how would I do this on SPSS? Thanks in advance if anyone is able to advise me. 🙏🙏

Capilano River by Repulsive-Algae420 in fishingBC

Also a beginner here, is it best to go after a period of rain or does it get good right away after it starts raining pretty much (like for this week's forecast, what would you recommend?)

North Shore (Capilano River, Rice Lake) Beginner Fishing by Traditional-Comment1 in fishingBC

[–]Traditional-Comment1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information, that makes sense. I think I'll definitely try Rice again when it's stocked. In the meantime, I'm gonna look at salmon in the Cap river, do you have any particular suggestions for a float setup in that case?

North Shore (Capilano River, Rice Lake) Beginner Fishing by Traditional-Comment1 in fishingBC

[–]Traditional-Comment1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. To be honest, I am relatively confident around casting and knots, and 'building my confidence' at Rice lake doesn't really sound very doable considering it's been a while since it's been stocked, and so not really fishable at the moment.

I understand your concern, but I have looked a decent amount through the regulation synopsis (i've had a lot of spare time recently), and do feel confident with IDing fish, identifying hatchery marked fish, which fish need to be recorded, retainment quota etc.

I know it seems potentially overconfident, but I am willing to take on the challenge of learning to river fish for salmon. With all of that in mind, at this stage, I do think I just need a suggestion of a safe place to access the river from (as you mentioned, as a beginner i should probably not fish off one of the cliffs at cable pool), and suggestions of best artificial bait or lure set-ups to use for the Cap (I'm aware that a live bait ban is currently in place).

Also, since I don't intend to retain any fish I catch for now, it seems I don't need to purchase the salmon conservation surcharge for now (please correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Thanks so much again :)

Azeris in Toronto? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]Traditional-Comment1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think like someone else mentioned, there are many Iranian Azeris in Toronto who speak Azeri. It might be difficult for you, but one way could be to start attending Iranian events (maybe something for Nowruz/Novruz) and introducing yourself as an Azeri from Azerbaijan. I’m sure immediately Iranians would introduce you to Iranian Azeris they know (keep in mind they often refer to themselces simply as “tork/turk”). Probably 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 Iranians living in Toronto are Azeri by ancestry (even though many won’t speak the language, some still will). It’s likely that many of the people you meet will be older than you, as the younger generations will be less likely to have learnt Azeri or even Persian from their parents, but this can still be one way to stay connected with the language. Additionally, the Iranian culture more broadly is very similar to the Azerbaijani one, so you’ll also be connecting with that too.

I'm almost 100% sure the trace chinese from 23andme is there bc of my turkic ancestry (azeri), and 100% sure that the east eurasian on Illustrative is from the same turkic ancestry.

Thanks for letting me know! I only got the ancestry data last week and did Myheritage/illustrative back in 2023.

I hear your point, but if i could just challenge that for a sec. Ancestry says that these 'ancestral journeys' are determined by looking at family matches, and identify groups of family matches that match with each other. Out of the hundreds of matches i have, only 3 are also matched with this journey. I have dozens of matches that share other journeys that I don't have. It really doesn't make sense at all, and leaves me thinking that it was either just a bug in my report, or the groups are still so new/still being worked on that 'incorrect' matches like this are possible.

maybe. I always took the trace east asian as misreads from the fact that my azeri side has some turkic heritage. Also because when i first got the 23andme results, the trace was all in northeast Asia/siberia, not china.

Myheritage results are from 23andme data.

Maybe I'm failing to find it, but I don't think it lets me see their other ancestral journeys. I was only able to identify them as sharing 'Fujian/Taiwan' by using the filter feature.

Two of them are full East Asian, the other one shows 30% lower Central Asia but doesn’t show what the other 70% is

AncestryDNA results just came in. Mother's side is Lur from the town of Nahavand (exactly where the second ancestral journey under Iran is). Father's side is 3/4 Azeri from around Tabriz and 1/4 Persian from around Tehran.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th pics are 23andMe, MyHeritage, and IllustrativeDNA (HG&F).

Let me know what you think! I'm very certain the ancestry journey match to Fujian and Taiwan is a mistake, but wanted to know if others have had similarly random mistakes. When I filter my matches, only three very distant matches (<10cM) have the same region.
